1.
How do you justify it to yourself that you 'need' another?
How long have you got?
2.
Elsewhere there are artists I just don't know who I must get round to exploring some time but have never quite found the time or impetus... Another form of blind spot. I never properly checked out Motown, Stax and Philly beyond stuff on the radio until I was in my very late 20s.
This is bang on the mark for me too. The charts were full of Motown and Stax when I was growing up and I simply took all that for granted, American pop music. I didn't really appreciate that style of music until I picked up a bass and tried to play some of it!
3. So then we got the fretless Precision, and discovered that the Jazz was pretty good for rock music. Did anyone ever get stung by a Stingray?
4. It's all down to the cab. I run my TH350 through a Barefaced Midget (G1) with no tweeter. I play in a 2-guitar covers band with a loud drummer. The TH350 has yet to break into a sweat. With the right 1x12 you don't need anything like 350W.
5. Yes Lozz, I notice that the Koreans feel the same way: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-35278451
6. One man's "legend" is another's "who?". I can remember being a worried teenager, worried because half my friends kept banging on about the Velvet Underground and the New York Dolls. Clearly it was impossible to be cool without having all their albums. 40 years later, I've still never yet owned a single album by either band and I can't say that my life has been ruined as a result. I have plenty of blind spots, even with artists I've loved all my life. I was a huge Bowie fan in the 70s, as was everyone I was at school with. We all had Hunky Dory and Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane and and and ... After Low I never bought another Bowie album, and I'd actually forgotten Lodger existed until I read his obituary. I only have the singles of Let's Dance, Modern Love and China Girl because they're on a Best Of compilation I bought. My biggest blind spot is the period 1984 - 2005, one of the most disposable and forgettable periods in music during my lifetime. Blue touchpaper lit ...
7. Opinions vary, and a lot depends on which speakers you choose to mix. One of my favourite rigs is my Compact (15" driver) with my Midget (12" driver). You're better off trying out the rig you plan to use and just deciding whether or not you like the sound. Alternatively, you can sit back and await the inevitable bloodbath that this thread will unleash.
8.
Seems like a long time ago now.
Logic says, it probably was.
9. Oh bloody hell! Health & Safety again, eh?
10. Very, very impressive. I wish I had some sort of skill at doing stuff like this.
11. Don't know what this would fetch in decent nick, but my AH-150 might be worth over £100. Big deal. Assuming your unit is worth c.£50 at best, and there'd be quite a buggeration factor in trying to realize that, why not give it to a local Secondary School Engineering Dept as a repair project which can then (is successful, obv) be used by their Music Dept?

13. If you're a semi-pro, does that mean that you earn half as much as you've spent on your equipment?
14. Well now you're just being silly. How can you test the volume properly without a child? Anyone would think you were a guitarist.
15. Hell, I don't even rate as a good amateur!
16.
Yup being a pro just means getting paid.
Well I get paid for playing the Dog & Duck, but it would never occur to me to describe myself as a 'Pro'.
17. Louder than most semi-acoustic basses, but obviously nowhere near loud enough to actually play unamplified alongside an acoustic guitar. You could easily practice/rehearse with this bass unplugged while a child slept in the next bedroom.
18.
Here's my 460, question is, do I upgrade the pickups or pre-amp, and with what?
Remind me, why do you think you need to?
19. That's identical to the one I sold to a German guy years ago - definitely on my list of regrets.
20. Snap! But fretless ...
21. The pin slides straight out, but the 'locking unit' stays put and needs to if you want somewhere to attach a strap. The bass is a big bugger (body wise), so I've ordered a longer strap. Until then, it's lap only. I'll report back. I weighed it yesterday (without the pin) since it feels like it must be far heavier than my other basses. To my amazement, it weighs 9.5lbs. The bulk is very deceptive.
22. The word gob-smacked hardly begins to describe how I feel right now. I think I'd better go to bed.
