1. Lucky? Not so sure about that - I reckon that bass is horribly overpriced. It looks like the love-child of my old Status Vintage PJ and my old Alleva-Coppolo KP5, both utterly gorgeous basses, but together worth only slightly more than this bass is listed at. I have no beef at all against Cotswold Guitars (for all I know, they're Members here on BC) but that price is pretty bloody huge!
2. The pick of the (current) bunch has got to be Apostrophe Police
3. I'm still looking for a Precision with a special tool for removing Boy Scouts from horses' hooves.
4. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Celebrity-Owned-2008-Fender-Masterbuilt-Custom-Shop-Jazz-Precision-Bass-May-p-x-/181793699500?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2a53bfb6ac I have absolutely no justification for emptying my piggy banks for this, so I won't, but this really does look like a very cool bass indeed. I'd love it if another Basschatter bought it ...
5. Despatch ... POB ... Going to Acacia Avenue ... Out.
6. I like wireless, but I already bring a shedload of gear to gigs. IME the more gear you have, the more scope there is for things to go wrong, and I have found wireless particularly flaky in the past. I'm now trying the Smoothound unit, largely because it's tiny and it's very, very simple. I have two gigs in the next two weeks and I'm hopeful that this will deliver for me. Something I haven't worked out is using wireless with a pedal board. I only use a tuner, which of course I won't need to stomp on midway through a song. How do you benefit from wireless if you're tap-dancing on fuzz and octaver pedals?
7. Saw The Metermen (three quarters of the original band) in Philadelphia two years ago, and they've still got it, oh yes. On the other hand, saw the George Porter band play at The Borderline in London last year and left before the end of the gig. Go figure ...
8. Not a uke player myself, but I'm guessing that ukes don't favour 7-chords the way that electric guitars do. In blues & blues-rock, they're constantly in use in most 12-bar formats, so playing that 7th underneath them on bass usually sounds fine.
9.
You mean like this? Standing on the receiver! The receiver is tougher than it looks/feels. It's made from extruded aluminium so is very lightweight but that photo really is of me standing on it. The antennas are pretty tough too but I can't guarantee that they're stamp proof ... not that you need to stamp on them ...
LOL - point taken.
10. It’s not surprising that this corner attracted a lot of attention. At one point, there were seven lurkers behind that curtain. 13.
The Beatles were just very cleverly marketed.
Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!
14. Agreed - and in truth the receiver box is not made to the same ruggedness that you'd expect from something you stamp on. If you put this on your pedal board, then it's only a matter of time before you tread on it.
15. On a straight Precision it doesn't really matter. On any two-pickup bass the situation is quite different. Unless there is one tone, and one tone only, that you actually like, you will want to use the controls provided.
16.
That's why I'll always use my best gear and just turn the volume down.
And that's pretty much it - you don't need another rig, and nobody will be looking at the bass rig anyway. Enjoy what you've got.
17. Used mine extensively at rehearsals over the last two weeks. The 'signal' LEDs on the receiver are now just starting to subside - think I'll deliberately run it 'dry' to see what happens.
18. Would you like to translate this page? Bloody hell! Please ... no, no, NO!!!
19. That may be the most uncomfortable instrument ever built.
20. Seems to be 120VAC / 240VAC with a voltage selector switch.
21. Is this the one I borrowed a few years back? I have absolutely no need of it ... but I'd probably have bought it anyway!
