Would anyone in their right mind spend that much?

£135? Doesn't seem that outrageous to me for a handmade instrument. -

Intending no disrespect to either Brentford FC or Sheffield Wednesday, I imagine that more people will be affected on that afternoon by England -v- Wales at Twickenham in the Rugby World Cup. Luckily enough, I bloody HATE rugby! -
I reckon at gigs I see more P and J basses than I do Les Pauls and Strats.
Maybe this is a genre thing. I currently play in three bands with electric guitarists, each band playing covers from different periods. Guitars used in the last year:

2 x Strat
2 x Les Paul
1 x Tele
1 x Jaguar
1 x Flying V
1 x Yamaha 335-alike
1 x Danelectro
-
I'll be gigging with it on Saturday. More later ...
No I won't. Managed to break a toe in my right foot last night, so my gigs tonight and tomorrow lunchtime will have to be uber-stripped-down, relying on the rest of the band (supervised by Bluejay of course!) to do the roady duties. I'll be taking the bare minimum amount of kit, and sitting down right next to my rig, so using wireless will be a bit pointless. -

Very early report following rehearsal tonight. The set-up from box to first note took less than three minutes, the instructions were clear & simple, everything worked as intended, there was no need to set the correct gain level or mess around with a squelch control. As an idiot-proof system it's hard to see how it could be better. The sound was absolutely clear and introduced no artifacts that I could hear, other than the slight brightness that the instructions warned about. If required, this can be adjusted using the cable emulator mentioned by Muppet, I actually chose to adjust the EQ on the preamp slightly instead. Using the default settings, there was frankly no evidence that I was using a wireless system. My rig sounded as it always does. I played a Mike Lull T5 (flats), a Shergold Marathon (flats), and a Fender Precision (rounds and Seymour Duncan 1/4 Pounders). Three very different output levels from those basses, no issues at all, no distortion that I could hear. I'll try some active basses when I get a bit more time. The size and convenience is quite astonishing, both of the transmitter and of the receiver. If I look hard for things to criticise, the lugs on the battery cover are very flimsy and fragile and I can see one or both snapping off reasonably soon if I don't treat the unit with care. There's also a surprising pop when I hit the Mute on the tuner, which is the only thing between the receiver and the preamp. I don't know how much power the receiver uses, but the device is so small that it cries out for a slightly larger version with room for a couple of decent batteries. As with pedals, having the option to use a device without needing a power supply makes it that much more attractive. I'll be gigging with it on Saturday. More later ... -
I have an XSW72 wireless system for bass (and guitar), rack-mounted in a Gator 2U shallow case. The system is little used, pretty much as new, and even comes with the original box. Cheapest I can see on t'Net just now is: http://soundinduction.co.uk/sennheiser-xsw-72-radio-guitar-system.html plus http://soundinduction.co.uk/sennheiser-gam-1-single-receiver-rack-kit-for-xsw-wireless-system.html mounted in http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gator-Molded-14-25-Front-Rails/dp/B0018THE60 So the wireless system seems to be going for about £200, plus another £77 for the Gator. As always, my gear is priced to sell. The complete XSW is up for £100 without the Gator, £140 with the Gator. Those prices are collected from either Acton (London W3) or the West End (London WC1). If posted, then P&P depends on whether or not you're buying the Gator too, since that obviously makes for a larger package.
