1. Seeing a mate's band on the Thursday night in London, but looking for other stuff to do in the evenings in London and (strangely) the Warwick area. Anyone gigging in either area?
 2.
Lightwave fretless with flats.
If you go that route, you need to be a very precise player. I had a Lightwave Sabre and it was truly lush, but there's nowhere to hide your mistakes!
 3. Nah, I can see where you're coming from and it's not hard to understand, but my experience of pondlife has been rather different. For me, trolls are people who post things designed purely and simply to be provocative, to get a rise, to try to wind people up. That clown Bronner wasn't posting about his experience to share it with us, or so that we could learn from it, or because he thought we might find it funny. His very first post was a rant about a one-off experience that he claimed to have had some years ago. By a bizarre "coincidence", that experience happened to feature the most controversial manufacturer (in Basschat terms), the one about whom there are the strongest views, and the one most likely to lead to a row. He was obviously pulling the chain to see who'd flush. And then it emerges he's apparently a Yankee operating through a disguised IP address. Trolls are, almost by definition, devious. Trip-trap, trip-trap ...
 4. If you upload your photos to Photobucket or similar, it's easy to then post links to those photos in your ad. GLWTS.
 5. We're going off in a whole 'nother direction, but I was always amused to see the name of the choreographer on Top Of The Pops back in the 70s ... FLICK COLBY. Of course I was younger then, and we had to make our own entertainment.
 6. Several excellent replies already. The UBass is certainly a pretty cheap partial solution, and it doesn't have to be a Kala either (I use the cheapo Harley Benton one). The Godin / Rob Allen / Renaissance route can deliver but IMHO only with very careful string choice (right now my Rob Allen wouldn't fool anyone). I've owned lots of Hofners, but strangely enough never a fretless. Again, a Hofner hollowbody (violin or club) or semi (Senator or President) will get you somewhere near but without convincing. Probably the closest you'll get is something like the big Takamine (can't remember the model) which has a telescopic end-spike and can actually be played as a sort-of upright. You've not mentioned budget though, and that could easily rule out many of these suggestions.
 7.
I once fancied a Ric so I wrote to Geddy Lee and asked if he would sell me his as he doesn't use it anymore. He's a good guy. He wrote back and said; "No you can't". Trouble was he couldn't spell can't.
Nice work.
 8.
The trick to FB is to be careful what info you publish as with all these online things... knowledge is power and has value, IMO..
And never forget - the Internet is for ever. Just because you've forgotten, or want to forget, something you posted (in haste, in anger, in drink, whatever) doesn't make it go away.
 9.
I've been here since May 2007 and on bassworld before that for about 2 years and I've always been uninteresting and worthless.
Luxury!
 10.
Personally I've never signed up to FB or Twitter either but I'm aware that millions have and it's obvious that there is a platform right there for doing all the stuff that established current sites like this and lots of others for a whole range of interets serve.
Next up ... Mumsnet.
 11. What could possibly go wrong?
 12.
In the interest of openness, the chain of events was thus:

WaynePunkDude had his membership of Basschat withdrawn (ie. he got banned).
He disagreed with the decision and a heated discussion took place online (away from Basschat).
Some Basschat members, involved in this discussion, decided to boycott the forum as a show of solidarity towards Wayne.
The Mod team and Admins remain responsible for the decision to ban Wayne. Our policy (rightly) means that we can’t discuss it in public - otherwise we’d be challenged to discuss any/all such decisions in future (some of which are based on very sensitive personal issues).
This leaves us open to accusations of conspiracy, but we have to live with that. The alternative is airing dirty laundry in public, which would be a far worse outcome.
And that’s the sum of it.
Mods, thanks for that. I think this response is the right thing to have posted and, while I would prefer you to have gone further, I recognise that's just one opinion amongst many. NOT specifically in connection with WPD but more as a general point, I'm not convinced that you can actually say "Our policy (rightly) means ...". That, too, is no more than an opinion. I think that there really are cases where no such discussion should be allowed, but conversely there are cases where refusal to embrace Glasnost actually does more harm than would be done by standing by your principles. On that note, I have no brief to speak for anyone bar myself but some of those who have gone were also doing no more than standing by their principles, i.e. loyalty to a long-standing friend. Just saying ...
 13.
To my knowledge, I live with 30mins of WPD and we probably know and play the same places but I've never met him or been remotely likely to.
So that's why you've never been seen at the same time. In truth, the thing I've learned most from this thread today is that you'll probably break through 10,000 posts before it gets dark. At that point, you finally discover the truth about the Inner Sanctum on Basschat. I'm not allowed to talk about it, but I'll just say watch those ceremonial robes; they tend to ride up a bit during long prayer meetings.
 14. Large fogger at floor level = rare to have problems. Small fogger on lighting bar (to get the best effect for the lasers) = major issues if there are any ceiling-mounted smoke detectors. Mind you, at our last gig most of the audience was over 60. Still rocking, the lot of them, but some had breathing issues and half way through the first set we were asked to stop using any foggers or smoke machines.
 15. On the fogger thing BTW, I'm a big fan but always check where the venue's smoke detectors are before you set up ...
 16.
... so there's unlikely to be enough time to be as ruthlessly efficient as you describe
But there's always time for a fanatical devotion to the Pope!
 17.
I find it hard to believe this chap is a troll, because his posts are written quite well or semi normal. Then again, maybe he's a clever troll, who balances these wild statements with half truths.
The Duke Of Wellington once said: "I don't know how many grains of sand one needs to make a heap, but I know a heap when I see one." It was obvious (to me, anyway) that he was a troll from his very first post. Why the quality of the writing or apparent "clever"-ness should enter into it is a complete mystery to me. Are you suggesting that only semi-literate morons can be trolls?
 18. Why I sold my cat? Sounds a bit heartless ...
 19.
I love you. (Which ones?)
Saturday Night Vader DEF Jam
 20. That would give more room to write "Gibson" in felt-tip pen, that's true.
 21. yet still a very cool-looking bass. I can't be arsed these days but a few years back I'd probably have bought this ... just for the challenge. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1960s-Framus-5-152-Golden-TV-Star-Bass-VERY-RARE-Needs-Some-Work-/131462123702?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item1e9bc0d0b6
 22. Me, sometimes. Depends on whether or not my back is aching. I suppose that, if I had to choose one thing to have in common with Robert Fripp, it would probably be this. I'm not that fussed about awesome musicality, worldwide fame, an address book to die for, or dodgy facial hair.
 23.
With regards to sub placemnt, we always have one top on a stand and then the other one stacked on top of both subs.
Is this a zen thing? Sounds like a Moebius sub to me.
