Put enough effort into your search and you might save a tenner, but for £150-ish this is pretty much unbeatable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/KAM-LED-Power-Partybar-Lights/dp/B00KCM2UYA Add a couple of decent (but still cheap) lasers and a small fogger, and you've got more lights than the average pub band ever uses. The whole lot will probably cost you a single gig fee. As to "low output", that's not been my experience. You get one of those KAM bars with a single lamp in your face and all you want to do is swivel it to face elsewhere.

He mentioned it once, but I think he got away with it ...

Certainly looks like it's been smeared with the stuff ...

My point, Rob. You try attaching a broomstick to one of those tattered, rotten things and you'd soon see some action (did you see what I did there?) ...

Blimey! The Rickenbacker thread has just kicked off again!

Is this what they mean by Foot In Mouth disease? -
so who are the highest posting members (not mods) now? I see Happy Jack's at 7,824 - that must be top four?!
Not really fair to exclude Mods from that, Ted. They're members too and they have a huge influence on the feel of the forum. On that list I seem to be at No.20, but Dood's only on it because he cheated and awarded himself eight million posts. Of the 18 names genuinely above me on that list, I am aware of seven who are no longer on Basschat. Doesn't sound too bad until you realise that four of them have gone within the last two months. I haven't bothered to look at the next 20 or the 20 below that. I'm sure others will do so. If you choose to exclude the Mods after all (your choice, not mine) that only makes it worse.
How on earth can you write in a patronising way?
Well if you don't know something as obvious as that, then there's no point in me trying to explain it to you.
Are we awaiting for a call from Mr Hall's lawyers for allowing a duplicate Rickenbacker thread?

Especially as the copy thread is better than the original.
Thank you Bronner. Without your brain-dead nastiness, we'd never have had this piece of genius. -
Wow! You're still here? Couldn't find the door, huh?
What is that ethos and who should be ensuring that the founding principles are adhered too? I think most people are happy to follow rules and guidelines but how can you be sure everyone knows what they are?
Good grief! I don't know you personally and I have no intention of being offensive, but do you actually understand what ethos means? Anything that can be defined and pinned down in terms of rules and guidelines is the very antithesis of ethos. The people who have gone, or have gone quiet, are those who gave this place its character, simply by being who they were/are ... exceptionally nice people who like helping and interacting with other musicians. Any attempt to enforce "niceness" or "being supportive" is doomed to failure. IMHO of course. YMMV.
It's okay. I'm back now lads. Seriously...which members are we talking about as I seem to see the same folk posting. However, I'm quite new to the forum...maybe 9-10 months.

Yes who are the 'Good' posters please? As someone with only a year on the forum ...
My point, I'm afraid. Basschat was created by a particular bunch of people. Whether or not they (we) intended it, that bunch gave this place its ethos. Those people are going, and those who are left don't even know who they were! When all that's left is (relative) newbies and foreign posters with three posts trying to sell Foderas, you may wonder why it's gone so quiet.

It's a cumulative thing. Decisions and changes made some time ago have driven Basschat progressively further and further away from its roots. The last few months have seen an acceleration which suggest an approaching cliff edge. I hope I'm wrong, but the number of founder members who have either radically reduced their involvement or left entirely is deeply concerning. Perhaps the most worrying aspect is the Soviet-era silence on the subject from what passes for management here. I'm on record many times over the years as being highly supportive of Ped & Kiwi; my usual metaphor is Basschat-as-a-pub, where you're allowed to stay so long as you obey the landlord's rules. If you don't like the rules, find another pub. I haven't changed my views, but this pub is a much less friendly and supportive place these days, and the bar staff are acting very strange and whispering to each other a lot. Not good. Not good at all.
Master Blaster or Sir Duke by Mr Wonder will do this for you.
And of course will show that you had to study these songs along with 38,000 other Music Tech grads, all of whom will spend the rest of their lives using them at sound check. No ... go with Mustang Sally.

should rehearsal costs be split equally?
Happy Jack replied to MacDaddy's topic in General Discussion
We used to split evenly between all members but our drummers just built himself a soundproof rehearsal room on his house so we pay him rent in the form of a four pack of bitter every week now
I like your thinking ... -
Harrison?
Relax man.
You're missing the point Hiram. He's a troll. This isn't about hating Rickenbackers, it's about getting the biggest response from the least effort. Under a bridge somewhere, with a bottle of gin in a brown paper bag and a bad attitude, he's waiting for his favourite bass tone ... and that's "Trip Trap, Trip Trap".
In our case the drummer (being a drummer) has no bloody transport and cadges a lift to rehearsals from the guitarist (as does the singer) and there's no room in the car for three people, the guitarist's gear AND a full drum kit.
What an extraordinary situation. I can't imagine being in a band where this happened.
We rehearse in one of the band member's house, where he leaves the gear set up, only breaking down what is needed for any gigs. [s]Spare [/s]Electric drum kit used for gigs, and we have [s]three [/s]four PAs between us. As for paying, we all pay exactly the same, absolutely nothing.
And that's my arrangement although (technically) I don't pay "absolutely nothing", I pay a very large amount of money for the space. But that's my call and no reason for anyone else to chip in. My rehearsal space has been used by all six of the bands in which I've been involved in the last year. -
And I'm still waiting to hear why he bought it in the first place, seeing as it was so bad.
He didn't buy it ... it was given to him. You do realise that Bronner is actually an anagram of Sir Paul McCartney don't you? No, wait ...
-
Is this the 5-minute argument, or the full half-hour?
-
We pay a lot of money to use these places, I know gear gets damaged but I think they should make more effort to ensure equipment works when bands arrive to rehearse
Well there's the problem in a nutshell. Actually we DON'T pay a lot of money. Most of these studios charge very low rates at peak and next to nothing the rest of the time. The bands come in and trash the place, the toilets, and the equipment, and then complain when it's not all as new the next time they turn up. Grab a piece of paper and a pencil and work out how much it would cost YOU to set up and run a rehearsal facility. Then factor in getting £10 per hour for each room at peak hours, but having to supply everything all day long. No one is getting rich out of this.
-
What, already? Does that mean we're one of the last bands to play in Denmark Street?
No! They're demolishing the tatty block behind the North side of Denmark Street, including Enterprise Studios and part of the 12 Bar Club. Most of the North side is not affected, and the South side won't be touched. The Alley Cat survives to service another generation of puzzled Japanese tourists.
-
If you're ever unfortuante enough to have a rehearsal at Enterprise round the back of Denmark Street make sure you have your jabs beforehand...
Forget the jabs, take a hard hat and a hi-vis vest. They're in the middle of demolishing the lot just now.

Or try using the search function to look for the last few times this has been asked. There's a staggering number of suggestions already available right here on Basschat from previous efforts.
