1. Steve, I know this isn't what you asked but I've read your post several times and I'm not convinced that Multi-FX is the way to go. Bin there, dun that, sold it. In an effort to make their product stand out from the herd, each manufacturer loads their Multi-FX unit with a staggering range of knobs, dials, functions, parameters, etc. and - like most people you only actually need a couple of effects in a whole gig. It's overkill. I'd suggest you try and find a Pedaltrain Nano and mount on it a decent pedal tuner, an octaver pedal, and a simple synth pedal or maybe envelope filter. Bought new, those four items will cost a fair bit more than a Multi-FX unit ... so don't buy new! The marketplace on Basschat routinely has half a dozen people having a ***HUGE PEDAL CLEAR-OUT !!! *** so you shouldn't struggle to find what you need. That will give you a small, light, modular, and above all targeted pedal board which does exactly what you need, no more and no less. Being modular, if you later decide that you really need a chorus pedal rather than a synth, or you're desperate to try out a different Octaver, then you can re-configure as you please. Good luck.
2. Yup ... "Fender" is a very silly name.
3. If there are people in your life who you hate, and they have children, just buy these as Xmas presents for those kids.
4. Bill, don't ever go away. I'd miss your posts FAR too much.

7.
I've gigged with John Colhan of Status Que fame. He goes out as Coglan's Quo ...
Are either of these guys related to John Coghlan? I'm guessing that Status Que are a tribute band, right?
8. Without pictures ...
9. These basses are better than you might expect. They're not at all the same experience as playing a real German-made Hofner, but if you've not done that then you're not going to notice. As always, much depends on what you plan to use it for.

13.
Glad to hear this as it's " amateurs" and " their" and " I'm".
Erm ... actually it's "they're". Take 100 lines. If you know what I mean.

15. Hmmm ... a very high price, yes, but perhaps not quite as outrageous as some seem to think. I bought a Hondo II Les Paul about 6/7 years ago, paid £180 for it. Now everyone knows that Hondos were the ultimate in crap guitars, except that some weren't. Pretty much every competent guitarist who's played this thing (i.e. not me) has liked it, and it sounds more like a Gibson that you might believe. If I was to be persuaded to sell it today I certainly wouldn't take less than £250 for it, since it would cost at least that to get an adequate replacement (IMHO). £250 is a lot less than £510, I know, but we're not talking orders of magnitude here. Just sayin' ... Oh yes, and this is my first ever post on a guitar forum!
16. For £200-ish you can get a ridiculously high-quality pre-owned bass. My choice would be an SGC Nanyo Bass Collection, but there's no shortage of choice. At that price point, it's hard to see how you'd lose much if you choose to re-sell it later. If you're particularly keen to buy new, then any entry-level Chinese bass these days will do an adequate job for you. You're looking at nearer £100 for one of those. Unless you're impossibly skint, the amounts are so tiny that there's nothing to lose by having a bass lying around your home unused for 11 months of the year.
17. I've been on the same bill as Cherry White ... if you're in/near Derby this is well worth an evening of your time.
18. As avatars go, that one is right out there ...
19. It's basically a guitar re-imagined as a bass. And I can't imagine where you'd find suitable strings for it!

22. It's all about the strings. The ones it comes with will probably be awful, and you'll be thinking in terms of upgrading to Aquila Thunderguts or something. Also, and I'm absolutely serious, always use talcum powder on your fingers when playing. As gigging instruments, these things are a load of fun and work very well.
23. One day, Si , one day ... you'll list a bass that's a crock of sh*t. Clearly today is not that day.
24.
Just imagined Mark King being told "sorry mate, we don't like that slappin stuff"
If only! Just think of all the irritating noisy grief we'd all have been spared since then ...
