1. The Junkyard Dogs played The Ash Tree in Ashford (Middx, near Heathrow) last night - they liked us so much that they immediately asked us to play their NYE gig this year. So that's Basschatter Happy Jack on bass, Basschatter MacDaddy on lead guitar, Basschatter Bluejay on camera & video (plus occasional roadying), and semi-Basschatter Paul the Drums, star of various Southeast Bassbashes on ... erm ... drums. Three and a half Basschatters in one band, and something for grown-ups to do on NYE - what more could you want?

3. That red one was mine for a few years (I got it from ryancowell25 IIRC) and xllddx had it for a year too. These are absolutely lovely basses, all the advantages of a really good Precision plus huge punch and a neck that never needs adjusting. Matski, why does it have four controls? I can work out three, but the last one has me stumped.
4.
How about giving every visitor 4 x 5 minute slapping coupons. These can either be redeemed for 5 minutes of slapping a bass... Or 5 minutes slapping someone who is slapping the bass.
I love this idea, but can you imagine the secondary market that would spring up in the Gents Toilets with people trading slapping coupons for picks & strings ...
5. Not meaning to go off topic here, but are you sure it's you? You don't mention anywhere your band's line-up. 5/6 years ago I had a massive problem with my sound at rehearsals - whatever I did there was far too much bass and the basslines sounded horribly woolly and boomy. I threw money at the problem for a few months before discovering that "my" problem was actually the keyboard player's left hand. Our line-up in that band now has two guitars and no keys, which is a huge improvement, but there have been occasions where a fuzzy Les Paul sound played near the nut has sounded like problems with the bass again.
6. Got a little side project starting up with a Van Morrison-esque vocalist and a reliable drummer. Van spends his weekends in somewhere called "the Midlands" (a bit to the north of London-The-Centre-Of-The-Universe apparently) so this band will intentionally be targeting midweek gigs. This is a groove band, incorporating blues & soul & borderline jazz stuff (think Tom Waits, Diana Kroll, etc.) and could be a vehicle to go off in some new directions. Play standard needs to be competent without getting all virtuoso on our asses. We don't plan to do too many crowd pleasers, and ain't nobody gonna get rich. We have our own rehearsal facility with backline and decent transport connections in Acton W3. If you fancy some off-piste 6-stringing, drop me a PM.
7. I seem to remember that these were bloody heavy - can you recall what it weighed?
8. At that price, they look like very good units. We're just a pub band so I have no interest in DMX, but that enormous colour wash in the corner can look very good even at the Dog & Duck.
9. Are we talking about http://www.djanddiscostuff.com/lighting-c1/band-stage-and-uplighting-c9/led-pars-c48/7q5-led-uplighter-7-x-5watt-rgba-led-p1419/s1460?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=ledj-7q5-led-uplighter-7-x-5watt-rgba-led&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=Cj0KEQiAs6GjBRCy2My09an6uNIBEiQANfY4zNbGo0-kd45KiBSAZtJPSW74pmjAtN4Tod3DgQYONF4aApSz8P8HAQ
10.
Silv, there were 5 rigs in the hall
That's the trouble with running an MB500 through a Midget ... the rig is so small that people can't even see it.
11.
My experience is that you need to go to 36" scale and beyond before the scale length makes enough difference to be worthwhile.
The weight difference between a Mike Lull and an Overwater pretty much kills that argument for me.
12. For those Basschatters who attended either the SouthCoast BassBash (in August) or the SouthEast BassBash earlier this month, why not play "Spot The A-Frame"?
13. Don't worry Highfox, playing DB doesn't automatically turn you into a jazz fan.
14. My experience is that a well-made 35"-scale 5-string (Mike Lull, Lakland, etc.) will probably have a better B-string than an equally well-made 34"-scale 5-string (Alleva Coppolo, Status, etc.) YMM indeed V.
15. What you do next is you take all four speakers out of the lower cab, and remove three of the four speakers from the upper cab. Simples.
16. I'm waiting for an offended Argentinian to jump in now ...
17. All this reminds me of buying the very first production Big One. It was delivered to my office in Bedford Square, where one of my colleagues watched the courier actually drop the cab (in a cardboard carton) four feet off the back of the lorry onto the tarmac. One of the bottom corners was crushed, but the cab worked perfectly. Alex, of course, paid for the cab to be returned to him, fixed it and even strengthened it further, and sent it back to me.
18. Have you tried turning Japanese?
19. That wasn't a cab Silvie, that was Mike's portable nuclear fallout shelter.
