Obscure Musical Backwaters - The Great SGC Nanyo Thread
Happy Jack replied to Happy Jack's topic in Bass Guitars
Yes, I saw that one. Agreed that it's way too expensive and yet, and yet, and yet that's actually a far better price match for the quality of that bass than the piffling numbers they used to change hands for. -
Passive, Active, Pre-amps.....and strings....
Happy Jack replied to Undertone's topic in General Discussion
Active/Passive - it depends. If you're using the preamp in a very subtle, low-gain sort of way then you may find the Passive input is fine. If you're cranking the preamp up high, then deffo go Active. Trust your ears, try both, see which works. Strings which you (and a lot of us too) describe as "floppy" are probably better described as more compliant. https://www.liutaiomottola.com/myth/perception.htm The feel of different brands & types of strings can vary hugely, and what the player looks for in those strings varies even more. This is why God invented BassBashes. -

Yamaha Reface DX FM Synth - *SOLD*
Happy Jack replied to ash's topic in Accessories & Other Musically Related Items For Sale
These things are just astoundingly good ... WAY better than you'd expect. The 'library' of sounds it comes with is pretty hopeless, but the range of free sounds that you can download through the Yamaha Soundmondo website means that you can have a 32-preset synth to your own satisfaction with just a couple of hours of faffing about online. If the right SB320 with gold hardware turned up, I could be tempted. -
There’s nothing like a nice low action😳😳🙈🙈……

That's a Real Man's action ... -
They're properly-built, old-school instruments, built and finished in the same way and to the same standards as they build violins and cellos.
-
The genuine German basses are MUCH better made and finished, but they are MUCH MUCH more expensive. 🤑

Has anyone actualy worked out the cost of the materials used in the Mona Lisa?

Just bought an EBS MicroBass II ... very fast despatch & delivery, well-packed, good comms. All in all, a credit to Basschat. 🙂

I picked up a bass guitar for the first time ever on my 49th birthday, so I'm struggling to see your age as being somehow 'over the hill'. 😂 Now is a LOUSY time to be selling valuable kit. The market is in the toilet and will likely stay there for the whole of 2023, so don't sell nuthin' unless you're desperate. If you're working hours that make it hard for you to join a band, why not invest some time into starting your own band, built around the hours you CAN play. You're not unique ... there will be other musos in the same position as you; hopefully one will be a drummer, and another will be a guitarist. You never know until you try. And @Steve Browning is absolutely right. If you want to improve generally as a musician, learning to play keyboards has to be the best bet. It's also age-proof. Nobody ever pointed at a seated keyboard player and said, "Well that's not very rock'n'roll, is it?".

That's a very cool micro-rig. Do you offer a build service? 😉

But what can you get from the most powerful output on the power bank? Does it have a single socket that can deliver >1A?

I rather think not. I haven't used my Clarus for ages (it's in a box somewhere) but I don't recall it having phantom power and there's no dedicated XLR input on it. When I use my Nadine, I use it with an EA Doubler which is designed for exactly this sort of rig. They're discontinued but can still be found pre-owned. Alternatively you could of course run the signal through a preamp (or maybe a DI box?) which supplies the 48V, but in that case life is starting to get complicated. The Nadine sounds absolutely excellent, really lush, and looks way too cool, but it's not as feedback-resistant as their marketing would have you believe. For low-volume gigs where your tone is what you want to capture faithfully, Nadine is a perfect choice. For louder gigs and/or noisier environments, not so much. -
You're not seriously going to get back onto the bike? 😨 Giving up biking is one hell of a wrench (don't ask me how I know) but there comes a time when you know it makes sense. ☹️

Yes folks, it's true! You need the all-new light-weight cheap-as-chips disposable Stadium Stack!

Judging by the latest photos on their website, they now use knurled knobs/wheels instead.
