[/quote] Correct, although I seem to remember it was actually 10W. With a sensitive cab (e.g. a Barefaced Midget) you can get a surprising amount of volume from that, even without valves.

Sorry to be a wuss but that's a minimum 5-hour round-trip in a van on a Sunday, with the alarm set for 6am on Monday. Looks more and more like what we need is DBB North and DBB South ... I may have to organise DBB South just to make sure it happens.

Is it a genuine vintage tea-chest bass, or is it a new relic'd version? The tea they used in the 60's was quite different, and had a wonderful tone.

This "no way to weigh" issue is a problem with no excuse for existing. Incidentally, I'm astonished that Michael has had to explain why the weight of a bass is important to him. One thing that has changed about Basschat (for the better) in recent years is recognition that some of us are actually a bit older than we used to be, and that very few of us are professional weight-lifters who think nothing of playing a 3-setter with a 5Kg boat-anchor slung over our shoulder. If you're a bass-player who has no back problems then congratulations and long may that continue. Sadly, it won't be for ever ... your lumbar region is waiting (weighting?) for you, lurking in a shadowed doorway with a baseball bat, and ready to totally spoil your whole day.

In-ears can be a bloody nuisance though (depends on the band, the gig, and the musician) and wearing any form of headphones on stage just looks weird. I use this: http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/pa-live/detail.asp?stock=11060815213512 Stick it on a mic-stand in front of you (even if you don't sing). Plug your bass into the WPM1 and then run your lead from the WPM1 to your rig. You WON'T hear the sound of your bass rig, but you'll certainly hear what you're playing! You can also take a feed from the PA and run it into the WPM1 if you need a mix.
