My ACS PRO-17, arrived yesterday but I don't have a gig till the 12th so I will be able to check them out. From what I see on the web site the Pro-27 filters are not interchangeable so you won't be able to get lower rated filters if you find it too quiet. I'm planning to use mine also when I'm attending loud gigs so I may by another set of filters with more attenuation as gigs I attend seem to be louder than the ones I'm playing at. Jazzyvee
Please Note: You are able to exchange the attenuating filters on your PRO and ER Series earplugs within 30 days of purchase, giving you the option to receive the ideal amount of hearing protection for your environment.
So I have changed the settings and just brought a 32gb card.
You really don't want to hear this, but the little Zooms (H1 and H2) don't much like those huge SD cards, and they take AGES to boot up. If you have yours on mp3 setting, then you'll get roughly an hour of recording time for each Gb (that's a very crude figure, ye ken?) so an 8Gb card will cope with at least two rehearsals or gigs with no trouble.

Could you get it any more wrong?
Happy Jack replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
In all fairness, it is a very rare 6-string bass with a remarkably short scale ... -
Cheap wireless bass/guitar sistem. Should i buy it?
Happy Jack replied to borxas's topic in General Discussion
When something looks too good to be true ... it usually is. With tiny battery consumption you have to wonder about signal strength, with a 10m range you have to wonder about performance at, say, 5m from your amp, there's no mention of the frequencies it uses and whether it complies with local regulations, I don't think the video even showed the receiver unit. Walk away. -
Barefaced Cabs - Retro six10 and Retro Two2
Happy Jack replied to JamesBass's topic in Amps and Cabs
You said it yourself Jack: More bass + more mids + more treble = louder And the tradeoff is, the name is not as good.
Come on Danny, that's not what I said. If I really believed better = more then I'd be a guitarist, wouldn't I? -
Barefaced Cabs - Retro six10 and Retro Two2
Happy Jack replied to JamesBass's topic in Amps and Cabs
Why this rather than the celebrated '69er? The Retro Six10 is more sensitive (six bass drivers rather than five plus the boost from the hybrid resonator enclosure), has a smoother more flattering treble response, punchier fatter mids and a bigger weightier bottom. Hmmmmm. So it's more sensitive (= louder? who needed it to be louder?), and it has better treble, better mids, and better bottom. All at once. I thought cabs were always a trade-off? To make one thing better, something else had to be less good ... -
In truth, once you get past the Babelfish translation, his listings tend to be scrupulously accurate, with no attempt to fool anyone. Fair play to him. And I love this particular listing because, when I first saw the very first photograph, I actually assumed that bundle of wire was the pickup connection ...
And boy are they good! - Mine wasn't a K series but it still had loads of power on tap with lots of weight in the lows.
It was foolish of you to sell it to me. But then it was equally foolish of me to sell it to Flanker ...
We use a couple of these for our PA. Very impressed. http://www.thomann.d..._tamp_d4500.htm
Those are cracking amps. I used one as my band's main PA amp for four years, before selling it to Monckeyman (of this parish) before Xmas. I only sold it since I'd bought the Powersoft Digam unit that the Thomann is essentially a copy of. That design offers the opportunity to do a bewildering variety of bi-amp solutions and clever-clever pedal board nonsense.
Barrie, I might be phoning the shop shortly!
In truth, if that bass is available at a sub-£1000 price in the UK, then it looks as if it will compare favourably with similar offerings from Alleva-Coppolo and Mike Lull, at least in terms of playability and sound. Whether it can match the A/C for quality, or the M/L for lightness (and a 35" scale), is another matter but that's the first Carvin I've looked at and thought: Hmmmmm ...

People keep telling me that Nottingham is a really big student town ... does that not translate into enthusiastic audiences?
This might actually be a great idea in this instance - would the offending band member be placated if you forced the dep to wear a cheap silver star embossed with the word "Deputy," to ensure the crowd knew they weren't a regular member?
I always felt this went a long way towards explaining Thin Lizzy ...
Short for "deputising" I guess.
Only without getting a cheap silver star to pin on your chest ...

Cheap'n'cheerful or high quality but outrageously expensive? Sadly, this http://www.djkit.com/w-audio/w-audio-horizon-800-amplifier.html is now discontinued but still turns up from time to time on eBay. The 1U version came in a variety of outputs, construction was not awe-inspiring and the fan is noisy, but for that price it was bloody good VFM. On t'other hand, http://www.thomann.de/gb/powersoft_digam_m_14_d.htm is scary expensive but By God does it deliver ...
Living in London for a couple of years now. Haven't found one interesting band to join that made me go "Wow, I would put in the effort". Formed my own instead. Decent songwriting is almost non-existent.
That's a bit unfair, isn't it? Good song-writing has always come from frustration and deprivation, preferable experienced while living in a garret. Whatever a "garret" is. If you want good song-writing, obviously you need to live somewhere far less affluent than London ...

Hmmmm ... apart from using a sheet of "aircraft grade" aluminium to hide the alder, what exactly makes these things Alusonic or, indeed, Alutastic?

Harley Benton 'Kahuna' Basses (Kala U-Bass ripoff)
Happy Jack replied to dannybuoy's topic in Bass Guitars
It makes no sense IF you already have a Kala, Owen. Seeing as I sold you back your old U-Bass, that left me without one. I waited a long time for Andy's daughter's Kahuna to come up, and it is indeed very nice (and has already attracted compliments from a couple of BCers who have now played it) ... but not as nice as the Kala it copies. ps: It's worth noting that part of the high price of the Kala gets you a superb padded semi-hard case. The Kahuna comes in a flimsy unpadded plastic gigbag which offers no serious protection whatever. -

One of the very few basses I still have genuine GAS for is a Dingwall Super-P. I had a Z2 once. Loved the feel and quality but hated the tone. No choice but to love that 37" B-string.

Bass Collection SB310 at Northolt - ends tomorrow 5:30
Happy Jack replied to alyctes's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
They put it up at £250 and moved it on straight away i was told ....
I paid that much for my SB320, but that was because I was really, really keen to buy another (having foolishly sold a beauty a few years back). £250 for an SB310 is no rip-off, but I certainly wouldn't have paid that much for one.
