  1. Just found this: https://www.churchproduction.com/education/audio_review_klark_teknik_square_one_dynamics_processor/ These things originally retailed at over $2000. I may have found another reason not to buy one.
  2. Y'know, it never even crossed my mind that this would be analogue ... I just assumed it was digital.
  3. Aaaaaargh! The weight! The weight!
  4. In the time I've spent reading through these five pages about how little difference compression makes to the audience, I could have learned a new song. Just saying ...
  5. Which piece of gear would you run a mile rather than buy? Each channel has seven knobs, nine switches, two LED meters, and five LED indicators. And there are eight channels. And all of it to do something I never understood in the first place. Where is @51m0n anyway?
  6. I bought a pair of these six months ago, when I started Lockdown experimentation with recording software. I did quite a bit of research first, and these definitely represented best bang-per-buck at the time. I love them to bits, and I've felt no need at all to think in terms of upgrading them.
  7. I was in Angel Music in Denmark Street some years ago (when it was above Macari's) and noticed an Orange AD200 on top of several other amps & combos. Foolishly, I was tempted and asked if I could play through it, and the epitome-of-a-Denmark-Street-sales-assistant behind the counter said "sure". I tried to move it down to where there was an appropriate speaker, but the angle was awkward and I have a dodgy back, so I suggested that the assistant move it for me. He was considerably bigger and much younger than me, so it made sense. He grabbed the amp by its handle and started to swing it across to the cab, at which point the two screws/bolts/whatever holding the handle on ripped straight through the wood, leaving the assistant holding the handle and looking foolish while the all-valve head plummeted over a metre onto the wooden floor with an ear-splitting crash. For some reason, I lost interest in trying the amp at this point. As I left, the assistant was carefully putting the AD200 exactly where it had come from, with the handle replaced as if nothing had ever happened.
  8. Given that (a) you mention three different types of LaBella string being tried on four different basses, and (b) nobody else seems to have have had a similar experience to you, logic suggests that the thing these problems have in common is not LaBella or their products, but in fact is you. 🙂
  9. No No No!!! You're buying the wrong thing!!! 😂😂😂
  10. You're only allowed to use that phrase in conjunction with "this bad boy".
  11. If you're branching out into tree puns then I'll take my leaf of you, you sap ...
  12. The amount of thunder a bass neck can have is determined by how many screws are used to hold it on, hence Ritter's use of 17 screws. An additional tweak is careful selection of the shim material ... traditionally the classic Precision makers of California favoured a piece of an Embassy fag packet, whereas the shiny surface of a B&H packet gave the tone more of a sheen and was considered a NYC sort of thing. Final sculpting of the tone used to be achieved by the positioning of the fag burn on the headstock, of course. Choosing to impale your Rothmans on the end of the G-string was a pure act of rebellion.
  13. I rest mine on the ground. 😎
  14. Fascinated by the bridge positioning.
  15. Outstanding work, sir! In all fairness, it's not often that a Troll spells it out like this at the start of a Topic. I look forward to your next effort at stirring up apathy.
  16. Judging by the photo, "whatever is holding this one up" is four more petite women wearing sensible dresses, hidden from view by the body of the bass.
  17. Always two. The last time I only took a single bass to a gig was nearly 15 years ago. While I was getting a beer, the drummer knocked my bass off its stand (he denied it then, he denies it still) and broke one of the tuners. Luckily enough I was able to get home and grab a replacement in time. The last time I needed a spare bass was ... erm ... last Saturday. Given that it was a doubling gig, and it was the DB that bit the dust, I just played my Precision for the rest of the afternoon. Edit: Incidentally, I have NO IDEA where that thumbnail comes from, but it's really pretty cool. Serendipity.
  18. I've always used 'pass' ... is that a problem, do you think?
  19. I looked at the email address and immediately thought, that looks well fishy.
  20. That's my utterly gorgeous and uber-lightweight Mike Lull 54P. I bought it from a guy in Denmark because ... erm ... well, I liked the colour actually. To my complete amazement, it became my instant go-to bass for anything needing a chunky 4-string sound. It has fought off some very serious opposition to achieve that.
  21. It was quite a strong gust, Roger. In truth, I had no idea a bass could blow off a bass bar like that. From now on I'll just lay it down on its back in its gigbag, on the ground next to me. Incidentally, the entire fingerboard popped clean off, two seams opened, and the soundpost moved. I took it to the nearest DB specialist today ... £180 to put it back together.
