  1. At the gig we use one of these: https://cpc.farnell.com/duratool/d01950/folding-sack-truck-trolley-compact/dp/TL14696?mckv=ssub0DW1o_dc|pcrid|224653856316|kword||match||plid||slid||product|TL14696|pgrid|45451978925|ptaid|pla-564551473857|&CMP=KNC-GUK-CPC-SHOPPING&s_kwcid=AL!5616!3!224653856316!!!network}!564551473857!&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsLWDBhCmARIsAPSL3_2TfrGCyj9L002A5-JWWn6it7I7ZHlX_bioftXrNgn1bELCyDXBOf8aAmyoEALw_wcB For loading in/out at home we use a much heftier 4-wheeled trolley. At 2am we don't want to be making half a dozen trips to & from the car, so we use a trolley that takes all the essential gear in one hit.
  2. Back in 2013 the company announced that their pickups would be re-branded from 'BassLines' to 'Seymour Duncan'. A quick glance at t'Net and it's clear that product photos from the USA and Europe show 'Seymour Duncan', but all the big UK suppliers continue to show 'BassLines'. I'm puzzled.
  3. Lockdown has a lot to answer for, and the media are now full of stories about 'mental health issues'. This (for want of a better word) bass actually comprises such issues turned to wood and metal. It's a cry for help. I'm not even sure that I'm trying to be tongue-in-cheek here. 😨
  4. What a rubbish listing! In amongst the folky, supposedly-funny comments, you'd think he'd have found the room to mention what the controls do, what the string-spacing and scale length are, how much the bass weighs, little things like that. As it is, he doesn't even claim that what he's selling actually works, or would be capable of working with the addition of a neck + tuners and a set of strings. For some reason, the phrase "10-foot bargepole" keeps springing to mind.
  5. I thought all this stuff was now so distributed that a fire in a single location couldn't knock it out.
  6. Understood, but when I'm recording my 3-piece rockabilly outfit we all fit very comfortably in my studio (i.e. garage) with me standing right by the computer. Our aim is to achieve the Sun Studio stripped-down 1950s sound, so we're all in the room together and there's nary a sound engineer's booth in sight.
  7. It took me WAY longer than it should have done to realise that those cavities were on the front of the bass!
  8. Lefty, given the number of bassists with a high-end 20Kg all-valve amp sitting on a shelf somewhere gathering dust, why don't you just borrow one for a month or two?
  9. Undeniably clever, and I'm sure there's loads of applications where this will be very handy, but I have to admit to being relieved that it almost certainly won't be of any use to me. 😂
  10. Would now be a good moment to mention that I met and married @Silvia Bluejay as a direct result of us both being bass players? No? Alright ... as you were then.
  11. Nah ... San Miguel usually comes in titchy 330ml bottles. I'm no drinker, and I know it's 5.0 ABV, but four of them pretty much bounce off me. Rather than the ceiling.
  12. Yeh, but they have to add a 30-second slap solo and then tap the last eight bars.
  13. I remember the days of the 80/20 product, where 80% of what you needed was satisfied by 20% of the features. That was 40/50 years ago. By 20 years ago we had (IMHO) the 90/10 product moving rapidly towards 95/5, i.e. software. I used spreadsheets and word processors for a living for many years, and there were always great swathes of Excel that I never needed to go anywhere near. Now? Well now we have the 99/1 product, which is the average DAW. The secret to being satisfied with your DAW, whichever one it is and however much it cost you, is to just use the bits you need and assume that the bits you don't use are not worthy of you. Nirvana achieved.
  14. Wide open on the bass, always wide open. If my sound needs tweaking, then my amp will do a far better job of it than a volume knob or tone control will ever manage.
  15. Bwahahahahahaaaaaaa!!! I picked up a bass guitar for the first time in my life on my 49th birthday. I started gigging at 51 and that was 13 years ago. I have no plans to stop any time soon. I play any style of music that will have me (always excluding any form of metal, and anything that ain't really music, like rap and sampled R&B). I've played country to people suffering from cerebral palsy and Dad-rock to teenagers, singer/songwriter stuff to hipsters and rockabilly to afficianadoes. Any way the wind blows, doesn't really matter to me. To me.

  17. It's important to know whether the disc produced by this process is intended to be played at double speed.
  18. This track was recorded in my garage/studio using Reaper, and the video created using Reaper, all by a complete newbie. https://fb.watch/4yKK8Ooz72/ Obviously not helped by the fact that we weren't allowed to be in the same place at the same time, hence all the green-screening!
  19. In the Summer of 2018 @Silvia Bluejay and I were lucky enough to interview Marcus Miller for BGM, and we asked him about this. https://www.musicradar.com/news/marcus-miller-ive-always-hated-bass-solos-thats-the-one-point-when-the-music-isnt-grooving-any-more
  20. First change I made to my (matt black) 4003s5 was to ditch the horrid white scratchplate and replace it with black. Good move.
  21. This looks like a very serious build ... great work.
  22. It's that jab he had a couple of months ago ... suddenly he can read people's minds. 😨
