  1. Yup. In all fairness, not very often these days ...
  2. Having played slightly-wrong basslines to famous songs for years, I see this as a chance to come back to them 'fresh'. 😎
  3. Compare the F A N N Y version to the original and two things stand out for me ... the cover really misses the dominant piano part of the original, and production-wise the original uses the full width of the stereo whereas the cover puts 90% of the sound in the centre making a big lumpy mess while very little happens out at the edges. IMHO YMMV DILLIGAF
  4. @plaaty, it would help people to offer useful advice if you gave us some idea of what you plan to use the bass for (gigging / studio / home practice / learning) and what style of music you hope to be playing on it.
  5. Did the song really sound that bad? I don't mean it's a bad version, but the production is just dreadful. I wonder if that's a poorly-converted mp3 or an early iTunes jobby, and the actual vinyl would have sounded way meatier?
  6. Makes you wonder if this is all a bubble (no, not that sort) and, like any other inflated market, there will eventually be a crash. It's not just the tat that's gone crazy. In 2005 I was routinely buying beautiful vintage Hofners for less than £200 a piece, occasionally pushing the boat right out and investing £300 or £350. Those same basses now sell, equally routinely, for £800 - £1500. Mind you, in 2007-09 I was also routinely swapping vintage Wal basses with @Clarky and, whilst prices varied of course, we were typically looking at £1800 - £2000. Seriously. Look at them now. And, picking up on the comment from @casapete, new stuff just keeps getting better and cheaper. Even some of the big names. The best Rickenbacker I've ever owned wasn't my 1983 4003 or my 1974 4001 fretless, it's my current 4003s5 which I bought new last year for less than £2k.
  7. These days I mainly signal the band using WhatsApp.
  8. So the suggestion is that the Silk Cut is a Substitute for cheese?
  9. I've just upgraded my 2016 Dell Optiplex 3020 from 2 x 4Gb DIMMs to 2 x 8Gb DIMMs. The PC only has the two slots, so this leaves the old units surplus to requirements. These units are 4GB 1Rx8 PC3L 12800U 11 13 A1 HMT451U6BFR8A PB N0 AA 1513 They're in perfect nick, no issues, and I can't be bothered to try to sell them on eBay! £5 for P&P (in the UK) and you can have them.
  10. Those prices are borderline insane Mick ... the basses are inevitably 'no longer available' and it's really not clear if those were the pre-import costs prices (not that it matters, of course).
  11. I have Bass --> Tuner --> Fission --> {UNeffected signal} to the rest of my bass chain AND Fission --> {Effected signal} handled completely separately, either to a guitar combo or to a different channel on the PA My suspicion would be that the Compressor in your signal chain is the culprit. To get any sort of decent response from the Fission effect it needs to receive a completely clean signal to start with. I put my tuner first partly so that I can mute both of my signal paths simultaneously.
  12. I'm more impressed that I've managed to successfully post on a Topic without getting it locked.
  13. Surprised to see that. My own style is best described as 'agricultural' and I often brush the wrong string, but I've not had any trouble with my Fission. It sounds like a signal chain issue ... perhaps you have another gain-adding pedal in front of the Fission? Incidentally, you can make the Fission sound WAY better by dialing down the disappointing in-built Distortion control and instead feeding the effected signal through a proper distortion pedal such as a Boss DS-1. I actually run mine through a Joyo Orange Juice: https://www.joyoaudio.co.uk/bstock-joyo-jf-310-orange-juice-amp-sim-mini-guitar-effect-pedal?language=en&currency=GBP&gclid=CjwKCAiAl4WABhAJEiwATUnEF6ze_RpfL4RcCMQauAX4aLs-RkALMPj31WfgTvu9jHCK2yS6oe4MDhoCI6kQAvD_BwE It's cheap, it's tiny, it sounds great, and there's a flip cover to protect the controls from accidental knocks when you have the sound you like.
  14. Nah ... it's all done with Green Screen these days. 🤨
  15. So then I clicked on this link and - wonderfully, absolutely wonderfully - it appeared on screen with a warning in the address bar: Not Secure. 😂😂😂
  16. Late to the thread, but I finally had a look at this link. Ye Gods and Little Fishes, a piece of right-angled plastic just 5mm thick, held to the wall with electrical screws salvaged from an old plug, and with edges sharp enough to cut instant grooves in your headstock ... possibly the worst designed guitar accessory I have ever seen.

  19. I'm waiting for Peter Jackson to buy the movie rights ...
