  1. If you can find an EUB that allows you to do that, then I want photos ...
  2. Strangely enough, @Silvia Bluejay bought a Spirit By Steinberger (5-string) last month. Same bass? I ask because there is no way that thing weighs as little as 5.5 lbs! Without actually weighing it (have you seen the time?) I'd estimate it as being the thick end of 8lbs.
  3. The Sinsonido is a very nice practice tool, especially if you're travelling or have young children at home, but I would never consider it as a 'serious' instrument in the way that a Violin bass or a Precision is serious. Although you could gig a Sinsonido at a pinch, that's really not what it's all about. The tone is as much of a one-trick pony as the P-bass, but without the P-bass's warmth and character. It's best described as sterile, and it's hard to imagine any genre of music which would sound better with the bassist playing a Sinsonido! I repeat, as a practice tool / travel bass (which is what it was really designed for) it's an excellent piece of kit. I used to take mine on holiday with me.
  4. You mean that you're left-handed but hadn't realised?
  5. Veering off in a new direction, John just did a quick & effective fix on an expensive FX pedal I'd managed to break. Top work, top guy.
  6. Not with left shoulder problems, I'd guess. Both upright and EUB require you to play chiefly with your left hand up high.
  7. Packaging to die for, and Tony even writes your address in UK format - what's not to like? Bright red Kramer 'The Duke' successfully hurled across the Channel; many thanks!
  8. It's a side-effect of the (relatively) new approach of out-sourcing as much production as possible to independent or semi-independent production companies, a point that has just been made by @Leonard Smalls. The hivemind mentality of the Internet is to focus on one big, easy target and blame them for everything. In this case it's the BBC getting it in the neck from the Basschat collective. I have no connection with, or affiliation to, the BBC, and I can't be arsed to leap to anyone's defence, but most of the comments on this topic so far are ... erm ... ill-informed. IMHO, of course. Flame away, guys, I'm bored anyway.
  9. The Club (500/2) is pretty much identical to the Violin (500/1) apart from the obvious.
  10. Well seeing as everyone else has actually answered the question you asked, I will now answer the question you didn't ask. Although it's not a rotor cuff injury for me, I have also struggled with playing bass and back pain for years ... 15 of them, in fact. I ended up owning a variety of VERY light basses (including far more Hofners than was good for me) and that all helped a lot. BUT By far the biggest result came from years of steady, constant Pilates exercises. It's not a quick fix and it ain't spectacular, but By God! is it effective if given time. There are plenty of valid alternatives. Yoga and Alexander Technique spring to mind. In your case, given that your problem is injury-related, a decent program of physio would probably be the best option - though I suspect you've already been down that route? The important thing is to deal not just with the symptoms (by selecting lightweight gear) but also the causes, as far as that is possible. Ultimately, dealing with the causes will do you far more good.
  11. Lonely This Xmas by Mud. In fact, last year it was so lonely and cold that we had to burn the Xmas tree.
  12. Good grief! There's a blast from the past ... I played it for about three minutes, seven years ago, in a crowded music shop. I suspect that my memory of the event is no longer dependable.
  13. That was hardly the train wreck the previous comments had me expecting. Sure it wasn't great, but I've heard worse ... hell, I've played worse. And as @hiram.k.hackenbacker points out it's probably intended for private viewing within the band, a work in progress that's not yet finished. I have LOADS of Unlisted videos on my channel for that very purpose, and some of those would cause considerable mirth if they were to be shared here on Basschat.
  14. In my experience, very few 5-string basses have anything remotely like a Jazz neck, much as I would like one like that. For some reason, adding the 5th string seems to result in more additional width than you'd expect. My Status Streamline is 40mm across the nut, so that's crudely a 10mm gap between strings, and that's the narrowest of the 5s that I own.
  15. That's all Sam? Kudos ... I had no idea he did this stuff. Send him my best, yeh?
  16. Just saw this vid at last ... great stuff, Adam. Who put it all together?
  17. There's no 'right answer' to this ... it's just do what works best for you. I play double bass and I love the sheer physicality of that, the fact that you have to wrap yourself around the instrument. When I play a free-standing EUB I really miss that, and trying to re-create it by hugging the EUB just feels ridiculous. And it does nothing for my playing either. I really don't get on with the extensions at all, plus they are possibly the least cool on-stage accessory since day-glo lime-green socks. Where I ended up was this:
  18. Not sure I'd blow £900 on it, mind. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/The-Woody-Semi-Acoustic-Electric-Bass-Guitar/333807321779?hash=item4db87782b3:g:UTsAAOSwrEJfw7Hz
  19. Mind you, there's really only one way to follow that.
  20. An original on which I contributed the bassline and BVs was played this afternoon on the radio. OK, it was internet radio being broadcast from someone's back bedroom somewhere ... we're not talking Radio 2 or Capital here. But it remains my first ever radio broadcast. Box ticked. Next up? Television. 😂
