    Alem.ACG352.mp3 Wal.ACG552.mp3 Two sound samples, an Alembic SC Sig bass playing a start of a track, then the Salace in the same position and then the Salace in the correct position that shows more of the Salace range. The Wal one has a noodle on a Wal Mk2 5 and an ACG Salace 6 in Bm. Both have flats on. Hope that helps.

    A pair of 30.5” Salace basses, B - C with no problems. Both have DFMs, but not the MCs. The fretted one (352 on the ACG site) can produce a very convincing Alembic style sound when “popped” on the treble side. The Wal sound is also closely produced by the fretless (552). I am lucky enough to own a Wal mk2 5 so have compared of course. The trick here I find is to tune your filter to a frequency of interest within your rif to feature it. Good luck!

    A while back I bought an ACG Salace shortie (352) from @binky_bass. And that was it. Once you’ve got one ….. Now as it happens, Alan found the rest of the same piece of camphor that’s on the back of 352. So the spec for my own build fell out pretty easily. 30.5” scale DFM pre amp Lined fretless ETS hardware And with its twin, I think of them as my Carlsberg twins

    I’ve preached this before but really do believe it. A couple of lessons with a classical db tutor on positioning of the bass and left/right hand pizz technique is the most important money a db player can spend. It’s really noticeable for yourself in terms of ‘destressing your hands and playing stamina. Good luck.

    Perhaps try reviewing the wiring to see if there are any loose or dry joints. High impedance points can cause sound issues & distortions.

    The SC Alembics are great. Interesting as they have a filter preamp. A more affordable and conventional one is the Chowny SWB, which is a very well made guitar (I have an Indian made one, the newer ones are reportedly even better). Very slim necks if you’re having hand issues. To get to the sound of the Alembic, a short scale filter preamp ACG nails it. Second hand they can be ridiculously undervalued.

    I have an SRay 5 HH and it’s an easy bass to play. As has been said, it’s 17.5mm and it’s 34”. Many 5ers are 35”. Don’t underestimate the impact of that on your hands. I’ve had a few Iby SRs, they are lightweight and mostly 16.5mm and 34”. They are a level easier on the hands than the SRay IMO. As an aside, I went to 5s. Now for anyone looking to do that I would say consider 6. 4 to 5 I found difficult. 5 to 6 seemed straight forward in comparison. I now play 6 with a 30.5” scale. Good Luck
