Tally Ho, here's my 3 minutes worth for this month. Hello, I'm Johnny Trash. The image brought to mind the rising sea levels and the consequences of climate change. However, I'm a glass half full kind of guy and that struck me as far too morose so instead I went with a country tinged toe-tapper about a train trip gone awry and the narrator more worried about his lack of Adam Peatyesque prowess and getting to his journey's end. Where was he hoping to get to, though? Epiphone guitar, Westfield bass, Hohner harmonica and drums programmed with Hydrogen. Vox Apogee Mic+. Recorded with Audacity and Wavepad for that wax cylinder clarity that I'm accustomed to. No auto-tuning has been harmed in the making of this ditty. Lyrics hidden below. Anyone want to form an 80s tribute act? I've just listened to Now That's What I Call Music! Volumes 1 through to 15 and can play all the songs on them now. Wish I hadn't, the 80s were shyte.

It looks like the consensus is just grin and bear it if you're having to play a few songs that you dislike. This is the experience of pretty much anyone who plays in a covers act. In my last band we played a mixture of pop and rock and there were certain numbers that each of us couldn't stand, but not all at the same time! Three of us liked 'Club Foot' by Kasabian, drummer hated it. The others loved the two AC/DC songs we did, I'd rather gnaw off my own foot than listen to them. And so on. It's compromise time, OK, you can have that if I can have this. Never any rows about it, we're all doing something that's fun so there's no way we're going to fall out over something as trivial as 'Whole Lotta Rosie'! It's also true that sometimes playing something you wouldn't listen to by choice is actually quite fun to play. It can take you out of your comfort zone and make you work that little bit harder. And when I say work I really mean it opens up more creative routes in your playing. 'Place Your Hands' and 'Dani California' were two such tunes for me. Likewise, there's song I love but with dull as dishwater bass parts. Just enjoy it. I'm currently bandless and am starting to miss it. Right, where's that short scale....

Weird old time for PiL in the late 80s. 'Happy?' was a decent follow up to 'Album' but it was the beginning of a slicker sound that sat uneasily alongside earlier works. Anyway, more post-punk from New York.

Na Na Na Na Naa - Kaizer Chiefs

First heard this on the ITV 'Night Network' when the clueless Mick Brown (of Pat & Mick 'fame') was interviewing the band. This is the original Icelandic version and Bjork's voice cracks at 2:16 yet it adds to the otherness of the whole thing.

Released in 1979, I'm calling this a post-punk classic with its jagged guitars and biting lyrics. ***WARNING*** Ms Faithfull is in full-on effing and jeffing mode here. It's a long way from 'As Tears Go By'.
