July , Tis the time for another Composition Challenge
upside downer replied to lurksalot's topic in Recording
After a fight with both my ageing laptop and a cranky Soundcloud, I've finally managed to upload this month's effort. The Sage. Who is he? Where did he come from? What does he want? What does he know? Why has he started breakdancing in the old part of town? Has he got the moves? Can he still do them? Will we have to call an ambulance for the mysterious old coot? There's a wee bit of guitar and a drum sample (or two) from Looperman but Ableton is Employee of the Month as I cobbled the various synth and bass lines together by programming everything using the 'noises library' within. -

Wish I did have, I'd just wibble about in front of it randomly for five minutes and, hey presto, there's this month's entry sorted ๐ -

I stare at the picture for a fortnight then manage to come up with some old guff with a day or so to spare. Works for me ๐ -

I'm more worried about the old boy with the sickles for hands in the background. What if he needs to pick his nose? -

I usually give them all two or three listens before voting. Rather do that than put Radio 2 on ๐ -
June Voting thread for the composition Challenge

Really enjoyed the tunes this month. As Len pointed out, it's a shame that, on a site for musicians, so few manage to find half an hour or so to listen to them. Hey ho, so it goes, it's still great fun! -
Now Glastonbury is over, have some more music and get over to the Basschat Composition Challenge for June and vote for some mighty fine tunes ๐

The Prodigy. Return of the voodoo people. Rave on.

Watching The Brian Jonestown Massacre is a fine opportunity for lookalike spotting. Neil Young is singing, one of the geeky students from The Simpsons is drumming and they even had @Stub Mandrel playing hand drums on their first song.

Yes! Goat are on now. Get your freak on, people!

Just catching up with them. It's a good old row, ain't it? And I'm a sucker for two drummers flailing around.

"The very big probe" ๐ I hope I don't absent-mindedly sing that out loud when I'm doing this week's big shop ๐ต

One man's Larkin is another man's larking. It's a fine line ๐ Oooh! I'll take that, guv'nor ๐

Thank you, David Jacobs ๐

Hooray! Three days before the curfew! It even has words! Anything can happen on a plane. You could drink a hot brew, have a snooze or ingest some top quality drugs whilst watching unidentified flying objects out the window. Words below (hidden). I'm sure you'll agree that any cobras listening would quickly grow hands so as to punch the air with glee at the Dylanesque turns of phrase. Instruments? Er, Westfields. Westfield Les Paul copy and Westfield violin bass fuzzed up using a Digitech RP80 pedal with a Roland amp. Oh, and MT Drums. Recorded with those old troopers Wavepad and Audacity.

Mayday, M'aidez...here's mine. I know he's got a microphone in the pic but I've yet again ran out of time (and ideas) so no vocals. Ralph, bored of guarding pedal boards and snoozing, decides that it's about time he got his groove on, so he leaps up, hits the keys and gives it his best Clint Boon impression. Bass Westfield violin, Guitar Les Paul copy, Digitech RP80 pedal for effect noisery, Ableton for all the drummery and the keyboardery. Wavepad and Audacity for all things recordery. Deep joy. -
Well, that all depends on whether we hang on for the three points, or not.
-
It's a bit like Einstein's E=mcยฒ. It's the formula for taking the ball to the corner flag to waste a bit of time when you're hanging on for a vital three points with only seconds left.

Great idea! Here's me playing football. Take that, cocky computers.

Japanese psychedelic space rockers Acid Mothers Temple at Bedford Esquires last night. Cor! They make a good old racket.
