  1. Many will say Public Image Ltd never bettered their first two albums, `Public Image` and `Metal Box`, the latter is stunning. Maybe a slide down in quality since, although 1986s 'Album' is great, features Steve Vai and Ginger Baker. The revolving door of members started with various drummers on `Metal Box`. They've now had around 40 odd members. The current line-up are bloody fantastic live, mind you.

    Nowt killed rock'n'roll...

Because rock'n'roll is an idea, an attitude; just because there's not much of it in "the charts" mean nothing. The charts aren't really the charts anymore, not like when I were a lad - people find music in a thousand different ways and just because some of us old fools on a bass forum can't find new rock'n'roll doesn't mean it's dead. It just means it's changed, or not. Either way, moaning about it is much the same as saying "it's not as good as when I was young". If you're interested, go out and find it! Otherwise just stay in remembering the good old days, and how the youth don't respect anything any more, and how you could leave your door open etc...

Well said, sir. Love a bit of microtonal King Gizzard.

  3. What killed Rock & Roll?  Damned if I'm going to sit through half hour of some American chaps whining about its demise. I'm off to listen to some Turkish psychedelic folk rock.

I hope I don't have to make a video about 'What killed Turkish psychedelic folk rock?' in the near future.

Don't think you will though. England have done well and congratulations are deserved but so far they haven't met any teams of the calibre of Croatia (when they're on form), Belgium and France , both on the form they've showed in the knockout phases. England don't yet have anyone quite of the class of Modric, de Bruyne or Mbappe.

But 30 (now 52) years of hurt never stopped me dreaming :P

Glad to hear this.   However, the thing about the likes of CTS and RSI is that they take some time to become apparent. Often by then, the damage has been done and a visit to a physiotherapist is the order of the day.

So, while your wrists may be fine...at present...IMO it would be prudent to be aware that your technique can contribute to potential injuries if continually used over time.

I do try to avoid bad habits that could cause harm. There's plenty of info out there worth checking up on. Plenty of it being on here. Bravo, everyone! 👍

He was left handed and played a right handed bass turned upside down but still strung for a right-hander - the E string being furthest away from him with the G string at the top of his stroke.

This is how i play. I use a pick and get around the fretboard just fine. Technique is a little slack as i'm self taught but i'm happy with what i'm doing and none of my many bandmates over the years have ever screamed at me that i've got it all wrong, and nor have any punters stormed out of any gigs tutting, "just what is he playing at?". What works, works. Just enjoy it!

It can make a difference health wise though. Having a bad technique can cause wrist  strain etc.

My wrists are just fine. As is my eyesight 😁

  7. We've tuned down half a step for a couple of years now and it's not an issue for either myself or the guitarist. Our singer reckons it helps him out as we play some screeching vocal stuff from the likes of Led Zep and AC/DC.

    Kendrick who??????

Who? WHO? I'LL TELL YOU WHO!!!!!!

He's an utterly appalling waste of four minutes every time I've had the misfortune to hear one of his dirges on the radio. I am 47. I like some old music. I like some new music. Move along now.

Tot a malmsteen wannabe, or any rock or metal player, the songs you name are a yawnfest and would rather gnaw their ears and digits off than play them. You may think that sort of music is the dogs' shiny bits but to many of us it's lift music's anal seepage.

    People eh?

Anal Seepage is a band name in waiting. Any takers?

  10. I started this thread ages ago as a response to a couple of 'Isn't Jaco great' and 'Macca's the best, yes?' topics. Tongue firmly in cheek. I love The Sex Pistols and am saddened by what happened in the short time he had left following the bands' demise. I was only 8 when he died but I remember it being reported on the news as if it were yesterday. I had to ask my mum what heroin was. Poor old (young) Sid.

    old thread revival alert,

39 years ago today Sid played the drugs once too often, and I was watching John Lydon on needle time this very morning (recorded) had some nice things to say about Steve Jones and Paul Cook's playing, confirmed Glen Matlock liked pop a bit too much and didn't get the irony on his lyrics (and Steve Jones didn't know what they were).

Back to Sid, I don't think he was as bad as the publicity made him out to be, just played root notes but that's what Steve Jones played on most of the Pistols songs after Matlock got the sack, McClaren also made a big thing of the fact that none of them could play, which is obviously not true.

He could play rudimentary bass, bootlegs bear that out. I've no doubt that if he could've got off of the skag and settled down with domestic goddess-in-waiting Nancy Spungen we'd be mentioning his name alongside Jaco now.

    Probably 😵
