  1. If PJ is in the mix, there are many many fans of Yamaha BBs on here, myself included. There’s no bad ones, just choose according to budged and desired features.
  2. If you’re willing to look second hand Yamaha BBN5 and BB405 can be had for absolute peanuts. Alder/maple/rosewood construction and top quality in general. Recommended. Sire if you’re after something more trad looking.
  3. The master output level of your amp should not have any effect on the output given by the balanced output. The output of your bongo goes through the gain, then the EQ. There’s even a clipping indicator that will light up if the signal is really super hot. The master volume on the amp simply dictates how much signal gets fed to the power amp. Balanced output goes before that. You just had a useless sound guy. Or maybe he just didn’t have the right tools at his disposal. Your gear is fine
  4. Definitely an incompetent sound engineer. Even the cheap Behringer DI boxes do up to -40db of pad. Totally avoidable and probably not your fault. Maybe get yourself a DI box that you know works and get your setup in order to avoid situation in future.
  5. Having played all that you’ve mentioned (except the BBP34) my choice would be the BB1024/x.
  6. Don’t do it!
  7. Come on, who’s bidding first? The tension is killing me. A white one, which is the other best colour, just popped up on FB marketplace in Nottingham too. I really don’t need two. Or three.
  8. Yes. Very.
  9. Yes. Simple and beautiful. Anyone seen one in anything other than red or black?
  10. P-pickup (normal or reverse) fretless BBs. What’s out there? Was a BB414f ever made or just the active 614f? O, oracles of the BB thread lend me your wisdom. And help me find one. The blue BB400s that was on Reverb last month is haunting my dreams.
  11. 90 seconds later and someone’s already nailed it. This site never fails to amaze
  12. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275841364170?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=k9ldUD_fQFG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=CBIPM5XXRG2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  13. What the hell is this? Probably belongs in the eBay madness forum. Obviously mate, it’s not a fender. Kind of looks like a horribly tortured BB. Any ideas? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/275841364170?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=k9ldUD_fQFG&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=CBIPM5XXRG2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  14. 1024/1025 (plus 414/415, 424/425, 2024/2025) have a unique pickup shape which no drop in replacements exist for. The good news is the pickups are fantastic and one of the many reasons for owning and playing one of these basses. Leave it alone! You probably have a dead or twisted string.
  15. Basically typing out this thread has made me realise that I want the spec of the American Professional II but I want it to be half the price. Ha. Move along, nothing to see here.
  16. Sure, I browse daily. Looking for some tips to help narrow down my search! There’s a lot out there.
  17. So my mind is wandering back towards owning a traditional looking precision. I used to own a 62RI CIJ and we had a great time together but I think I’m after something a bit different: Wide-ish but shallow-ish satin finish neck Contoured heel Not too expensive £500-£750 s/h No upgrades required to sound great Doesnt have to be a Fender but should look like one Whats out there?
  18. I think my mid life crisis might involve getting a 1200 or 2000. What kind of % on top should I be expecting to add if I got one shipped from Japan?
  19. I’d agree with this assessment. Very dark sounding and quite the neck dive.
  20. I have the 4 string of this in the same colour but wish it had an extra string! Any London based Basschatters heading for Bristol anytime soon and up for setting up a relay? Or any Bristol / North Somerset guys heading for London able to collect?
  21. A student of mine has one (absurd, I know but the kid has chops for real). It’s really nice. Small, light. Sounds great. Easy to play. Do I want one? Not particularly. It’s a superb example of exactly what it is.
  22. This is the kind of tedious minutiae that keeps me coming back. Great job!
  23. I quite regularly play someone else’s 734a and think i prefer the 414 as 4 string. 234 left me a little cold. Confusingly I absolutely love (and own) both the 735a and 235. No idea why the 5 stringers in the 3 series do it for me but not the 4s? I’ve never tried a 415 or 1025 but they’re on the list!
  24. Press the button marked ‘inst’ next to whichever input you’re using to switch between line or instrument level. Turn the gain knob right down. Should be more than possible to get a clean signal.
