Hi I've got a year 2000 (according to the serial number decoding website) Epiphone Thunderbird IV in Vintage Sunburst for sale. Brand new set of D'addario Roundwound strings and it has just had a setup by SiCo Setups in Bristol. It's got a few knocks and dents in it and the eagle on the scratch plate is faded, but otherwise plays great. I'm looking for £120. Kind Regards Stephen

Hi Posting up this video that Dmitry Lisenko did for me so he can get some props. I met him at the London Bass Guitar show and he's great. He's on youtube here if you fancy subscribing : https://www.youtube.com/channel/UClzBFkkb6ZO9x1N_bFyfxQw And the video is here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPQx0a4NS9s Hope you like it.
In that case I can't wait for the blog. Bring it on! Any while we are here, a quick question regarding the long-scale model. I see from the current photos that it uses the same body as the short scale which means that the pickup positions are more biased towards the neck, how does that change the sound compared to the CH1?
I'll PM you so I don't hijack the thread
I think you are very much mistaken. Even if the audience was mostly limited to people on here and "the other place" I'm sure we would all find what you have to tell us fascinating. On the other hand you might not want to make it too easy for just anyone to start marketing their own bass deigns ;-)
You know what mate? Let 'em try! It's SUCH a ballache that I think anybody who approaches it casually will drop out anyway. You also need deep pockets to get started (unless you are VERY lucky) My current model prototypes are doing my head in. I have the rage today.

No. My stuff is all late too.
I just wish that I will eventually receive mine! I ordered it on 16th February 2016, they were supposed to be released from the factory on the 31st March 2016 but there was a delay, I contacted the company and was told they will now be released on the 10th of April 2016, on the 14th April 2016 I emailed again to say that I was hoping to use the bass for the gig I have today (1st May) due to my ongoing back & neck problems, I emailed again on the 19th April 2016 and was told that they are due in at the end of that week, I was told it would go to the top of the list for setup and shipping out to ensure I have it in plenty of time, but still no bass! I've not heard from the company since 19th April 2016.
I hope Scott doesn't mind me butting in here, but his new stock is arriving in the UK on Wednesday (It's shipping together with mine). I'm sure you'll have it fairly shortly after that.

I don't think the game has changed either. People like Scott and I are never going to be able to make - for instance - a jazz bass and compete with Squire. They make a solid instrument at an economy of scale that we could never HOPE to compete with. What we can do - is fill up the niches with well thought out and soundly constructed instruments. When making stuff in smaller runs, the things you'd cut to save money when manufacturing thousands, don't really matter. Want a bone nut? Sure why not. Doesn't affect my bottom line particularly much. So with no distributors taking a margin, and doing our own distribution, it's perfectly feasible to make a musician friendly instrument at a good price and of good quality - as long as we work in the niches. That's not to say we're not going to try stray outside them from time to time. It's not for the faint hearted though There is a gap in the market for us at the moment to get stock into independent stores, as a few don't want to deal with the major brands at the moment. Agile brands like us, that can be flexible on stock levels, price and so on will always find a way to wiggle into the gaps. I've often considered blogging about what it takes and took to get Chowny off the ground. But then I think I'd be the only one interested in reading it.

Blatant plug but I've got a couple of these marked down in the For Sale Section http://basschat.co.uk/topic/283639-chowny-chb-1-bass-tobacco-burst-2-tone-sunburst/ - Stephen

Hi A brand new short scale Chowny CHB-1 bass for sale in what we call Tobacco Burst and many tell us is actually 2 tone sunburst. This bass is brand new from the factory and in perfect working order. It usually sells for £360, but I'm not 100% happy with the flamed maple top as it has a small knot on it (see the attached photos). So I'm clearing it off for £300** including Delivery. Here's a demo video and a great little video review from a fellow bass chatter : Thanks!
Perhaps Chowny Bass would care to comment?
Hello! Yeah - a few things about 5 strings. Firstly, they really aren't practical on the short scale version. The tension on the strings is probably too low and the Low B would sound like noise, which leaves high C as your other option. I've started looking into the possibility of a 5 string 34" Scale Version, and yes it would require a lot of prototyping. For starters I'd probably have to change the bridge plate, because it doesn't come in a 5 string version. So it'd be a very different spec. The other thing that gives me pause is that as a small company having a lot of stock variation means having to hold a lot more stock. So if I do it at all, it'll be in a limited colour choice - which is what I'm doing on the fretless shorty that I'm busy prototyping. Ultimately - if there's enough demand for something - I will do it. So make sure to let me know if there's something you're interested in. Laters
I'm in Taunton, but only at weekends cos I work away. If you can fit that in I'd be up for it.
I'll be in Taunton in a few weekends time I think. I'll check my diary and see where it is and come back to you -
Hi Guys I'm trying to put together a video for our new NT-J bass. I want to get 20 bassists on 1 bass. What I'm planning on doing is filming 20 x 30-60 second bits of improvised original noodling/slapping/funk/etc and editing it all together into a video. I've already got a good number of volunteers to get me towards the 20 I need, but I'm running out of bassists I know. Is anybody interested in helping me out? I really wouldn't monopolise too much of your time, you'd get to try out our new bass and let me know how great (or how sh*t) you think it is... I'd meet you somewhere convenient for you and bring everything I need with me. Is anybody interested in helping? Thanks in advance. - Stephen
(Note the typo in the stand's name)
Yeah I'm trying to leverage BGM spelling our name wrong into some cut price advertising.

As an exhibitor it was worth attending (although my feet still hurt). We sold enough on our show offer to cover our costs exhibiting. So at the very least, it was two days of exposure, and generally generating good word-of-mouth. Doubtless we will sell more stuff in the next couple of weeks to those that were on the fence, or those that it's eating away at that they just didn't buy one. You know who you are. BUY ONE DAMN IT! I'll probably attend again next year.
I am very much an impulse buyer. I would have bought a Chowny bass if I could have taken one away on the day, but I have to wait 6 weeks for a left handed. I should have had a try on one, but I am always too nervous to try anything. The only person who has seen me play is my bass teacher.
You should have had a go. You'd only have been on headphones anyway. And nobody would judge. Sorry for the lack of lefty stock. They only account for about 5 to 10% of our sales, so until we grow a bit more, it doesn't really make it practical to hold stock. We're working on it though.

Whew! Finally got back to Bristol last night at 22:30 after another very long day at the London Bass Guitar Show. It was great to see some bass chatters (both the lanyard wearing ones, and those that were incognito). It was amazing the positive feedback we received from pretty much everybody. Even those that thought it wasn't "their thing" still had nice things to say. For those that came and tried one of our basses - Thanks. Hope you enjoyed the show. Biggest thanks however goes to Basschatter "Romeo2" who volunteered to help me and covered the stand when I couldn't. Thanks a million dude!

I think we're neighbours Chris - I'm in D8c. Pop over and say Hi.
Elaine & I will be on hand to answer any D'Addario related enquiries. Come and see us on stand D12 to try out NYXL Bass.
We've got your NYXL bass string on our Chowny NT-J prototype that we will have at the show too - if that's of interest.
