I really like the sound and if you had a fretless model I'd probably snap your hand off at the bass show.
One of the benefits of being a small business is we could consider making you one to order. Come and check them out at the show, and if you like the quality, we can come to some sort of arrangement ;-) - Stephen
Like Hofner? Good to know, thanks
That's what I've been told. Personally I like to think they sound like "Chowny Basses". They definitely have a distinctive tone. The Great British Bass Lounge have a short-scale one if you fancy playing one? That's relatively close to you isn't it? It'll give you a good idea of sound and quality.

Hi Selling a Chowny CHB-1 (right handed) in gloss white. It has a pick guard fitted. It's brand spanking new but has a tiny nick and smear on the neck so I can't sell it as new. I've included a photo of the damaged section, as you can see there is a chip (not much larger than the fret marker dot) and a smear (you can see it passing through the fret dot) I'll courier it if necessary included in the price, but i'd feel happier if it was collected so you could ensure you're happy with it. (I'm in Bristol) Thanks! Stephen
Are the pickups in these basses similar sounding to anything else, like the Gretsch Electromatic or Hagstrom Viking?
Soundwise - everybody tends to lean towards saying they are like Hofner. There's lots of stuff on our soundcloud, and on youtube if you search for "Chowny Bass". The CHB-1 and CHB-2 use exactly the same hardware.

THREAD HIJACK! If you guys are at the London Bass Guitar Show we will be selling CHB-1's on the day (provided you are right handed!), with a free £49 gig bag, so you can saunter out with your very own. Plus we have a CHB-1 lefty and a CHB-2 (righty) prototype to try. So if you're gonna be there it might help make your mind up.

We will be sell
Can anybody help me: I came from Germany to visit the show. Is it possible to buy a new Bass directly by the exhibitors?

As far as I know, yes, and I also think you can place an order with an exhibiting luthier at the show, if you want a custom build, but since I have never done either thing, I will wait to hear confirmation from other BCers. Oh, and welcome to the forum, Thomas!
We will be selling on the day if that's your thing. ;-)

Short scale bass with standard scale length?
Chownybass replied to BrunoBass's topic in General Discussion
Sounds interesting. And yes, a black option would be great!
Sorry to hijack the thread but update on these over here in the affiliates area of the site http://basschat.co.uk/topic/249697-update-on-chowny-bass/page__view__findpost__p__2959657 -
Oops. So one of my customers dropped their bass and chipped the body work and the bridge shifted. They'd like a patch up and a setup. Can somebody recommend anybody for this kind of thing in Oxford? Thanks! Stephen
And... see the new issue of BGM for the latest addition! (The name hasn't been posted on FB or Twitter yet, so I won't spoil the surprise.) \m/ \m/
That's not the only reason to pick up the latest Bass Guitar Magazine. They have a review of our CHB-1 bass in there and it's a very good one!

Short scale bass with standard scale length?
Any chance of a black option at a later date? EDIT: scratch that, the Sapphire Burst on your existing model is gorgeous!
Hi Here's some sound samples (excuse the awful video quality - doing video was sort of an afterthought and I had no lights). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWR2O67vvXo -
Do you have any more info regarding the 34" Chowny Bass? I couldn't see anything on their website or Facebook page.
Hi! It's exactly the same spec as the short scale model. But it's 34"... we had to make it a little heavier to solve some neck-dive issues, so now it's perfectly balanced. I am busy editing together a little video demonstration of it, which I'll post in the Affiliates area of the website. It's the same price too (£360), but will come in only 3 colours (Emerald Burst, Sapphire Burst and Tobacco Burst). This final production prototype we've just had is perfect, so we will spool it into production for delivery about March/April time. We'll start taking pre-orders in the new year. (At which point we'll add it to the website and Facebook pages) -
Great post Scott. They sound different too of course. We've got a 34" CHB-2 now, and it definitely has a slightly different sound to the 31" CHB-1. When I get the chance to edit the video together I'll post it up.
Nice - is that a natural finish CHB-1 or a new model entirely?
New model entirely. Go Over here for actual photos of it.
Wait for the stampede!!!
Ha! As you pointed out in your DM, naturally it's free admission. -
Hi Guys I'm exhibiting at the London Bass Guitar Show. And I was looking for a helper for the show. Like when I did the Mansons Show in Exeter, you wouldn't have to do too much. Just cover the stand when I need to nip away to eat/go-to-the-toilet/fetch-stuff etc. Let people try stuff out if they want to. I'll do all the selling bits. When I'm back at the stand again you are free to wander the show as you wish. I very kindly got several volunteers when I did the Mansons show, and was hoping somebody (ideally London based) would be able to help me out. Get in touch via DM if you're interested. Kind Regards Stephen

I'll be exhibiting there. Nervous. It'll be my first one as an attendee let alone as an exhibitor. Everybody at the Manson's Show was regaling me with horror stories of what it's like. Would love to meet everybody so make a point of coming by and saying "Hi"
-
No. Lol. That was me!

Wanted to drop a quick thank you to Rich for coming and helping me cover my stand at the exhibition. Although we didn't sell anything on the day, I've sold a few to people that I know tried us at the show. And I know Bass Direct sold one to somebody who had tried them at the show too. So. Thanks Rich. I owe you one.

South west bass bash, yes a real one. Sunday 18th October.
Chownybass replied to Jimrs2k2's topic in Events
I'll be there and will bring some Chowny CHB-1 basses. A lefty and a righty. -
I'd definitely come to a South West Bash if it was in Bristol/Bath.
