1.
Classix Nouveaux - Hatfield band.....
A long time ago, the brother of a guy I went to college with played bass for The News, who were pre-Classix Nouveux. I have a demo recording here somewhere of a track called Run Away which was a whole lot of heavy compared to the nasty version that got released on album #1.
2. I got a 1979 Fender Precision in a trade years and years ago. I had it for about 15 years. It was sh*t, a heavy old dog of a thing. A horrible horrible bass, but I couldn't afford to get anything different.
3.
I keep returning to this thread just to drool. Do you have any more pics?
These from the Lull Facebook pages:
4. Cough. 4x10 and 2x10 Hydrives on sale in the For Sale section. Cough.
5. A few people have PM'd for pics...unsure whether these are for curio purposes or genuine interest. Anyhow, these are the ones I'm sending out. This one shows the small chip on the reverse...a black Sharpie will make that disappear.
6. Martin just bought one of my Thunderbird basses. Lovely bloke (coffee black, no sugar). 100% and nearly overpaid me. Nearly!
7.
Try a mixture of vinegar, green toilet duck and a little salt.
I'm sure this is how my wife does her roast potatoes.
8. The hardware is black...you could go the chrome route. I'm sure there's direct replacements for the machines and bridge. Uncertain whether the pickups would just drop in.
9. As an option to my usual set up, I own a dual channel board that has a BDDI on channel A and a VTBASS DI and Sansamp GT2 on channel B (although I only run one at a time). The BDDI handles a the whumpy low side signal, the VTBASS or GT2 offers a drive option. (The backbone of my main rig is a Sansamp RBI, so I do have a lot of love for Tech 21 stuff.) To be honest, I've never really gotten on with the VTBASS in any of its guises...I owned the rack version, sold it, then bought the newer DI version. It sits at the end of the signal chain and I only really use it for the XLR output. I just don't like it in a dual channel set up (I much prefer the GT2 for drive) or standalone; it's very middy and doesn't suit my desired tone in the slightest. It's easy to describe the differences here. To my ears, the BDDI is like a Bentley; generally smooth, but when driven hard has a pleasant gutteral roar about it. The GT2 is like your little brother's 50cc motorbike (or a wasp!), it really just does great buzzy fuzzy fuzz and these two compliment each other really well in a dual chammel output capacity [Edit; the BDDI and GT2 run into two channels on a poweramp gives a very dUg Pinick-esque tone]. The VTBASS is like an old tired Ford Escort or VW Golf. Noisy, dirty, slightly unrefined, uncomfortable mids. Not really selling it, am I? I will move the VTBASSDI along at some point.
10. Ash bought a pair of EMG HZ45 pickups from me. Quick payment, all good. P
11. The Ivory Thunderbird is on hold. Despite some interest, Gothic still available.
12.
LBO?
Last Bass Outpost.
13.
Not seen those before. The recent stock TBird pickups are much darker sounding than the old vintage ones, so replacing them is a popular mod; the only ones I was aware of are Thunderbuckers, Mike Lulls, Seymour Duncans, and these cheap ones: http://www.eyguitarmusic.com/Thunderbird-Bass-Pickup-Vintage-Style-for-GibsonChromeNickel_p_2287.html
I think these are the ones the guys over at LBO got moist over recently.
14.
I keep returning to this thread just to drool. Do you have any more pics?
I have the one above and (on my PC) a couple of the owner playing it and one of it at Mike Lull's place in Seattle. I've been quoted (sit down) £4.3k as a purchase price with a 4-5 month lead time; this time around I will need to sell kit to buy it, which isn't an issue.
15. That's black. Same finish as my JAXT4. The finish feels like suede. Now, someone buy some of my gear so I can get an order in.
16. I couldn't remember whether I'd replied to this, so there must have been a similar post previously. Remember those old science test you did at school? Question, hypothesis, method, result, conclusion? Question: We're down on a bill, headliners are providing cabinetry. Will I sound OK? Hypothesis: We'll skip past this, but suffice, bassist didn't bring any cabinets. You know it's not going to be great. Method: Well, I have my rack, let's feed a Sansamp RBI into the house PA. Result: Awful. Front of house was apparently fine, but onstage, nothing. Conclusion: Never rely on other people providing equipment and always take what you need.
17. Our EP hit Spotify, iTunes, Amazon (etc.) today. We're already up to at least three plays. I'm wondering whether I'll be able to retire early.
18.
Not the JAX T4!!!!!
'Oh, stop it Brains!'
19. *I've not bought it yet, have stuff up for sale. Let's see how things pan out there first.
20. Still here bump. Hit me up with reasonable cash offers. Potential purchase happening imminently elsewhere, so need to swell the coffers. P
21. It's a Mike Lull NRT5, but with an oversized body. Price is a bit mental, hence I'm having a clear out.
22.
Interested in trades?
Not this time, I'm afraid. I'm really just looking for a straight sale to facilitate a purchase elsewhere. Sorry!
23. Been giving some thought to going for another Lull bass, so I've made the decision to sell on two of my Thunderbirds to get the ball rolling. [s]The white/ivory Thunderbird is dated December 2004, it's been modded with a Babicz FCH bridge and Dunlop Straploks. It's pretty clean, aside from a small paint chip on the upper bout (where your forearm would sit) and another small scrape near the side mounted jack socket. Neither are visible when you're playing. I imported this from Japan about six or seven years ago. It has the Gibson hardcase and I have the original bridge should the buyer wish to revert it to stock. Neck is thin, fast, flat and the action is super low. It plays very easily. Given the relative rarity of this colour (and that Gibson aren't making any Thunderbirds at all right now), I'm looking for £950.[/s] SOLD! OK next up, an uber-rare Gibson Thunderbird Gothic. A bit of back history. Gibson made around 150 Gothics, they weren't promoted and it's guesstimated that about 50 made it to the outside world, the remaining 100-odd were retooled into Nikki Sixx Blackbirds. So you're getting a very rare Thunderbird, that's got the hotter Blackbird pickups. I've fitted it with Dunlop Straploks and a Babicz FCH bridge. The mahogany hasn't been filled so there's a nice grain-visible satin finish (see pics). I'm looking for (sit down), [s]£1,250.00[/s] [s]£1,200.00[/s] £1,150.00 for this. You simply won't be able to find another one, let alone at this price.
24. Hubba bubba. (The one on the left.) Now I just gotta work out how to pay for it. I suspect a fire sale upcoming.
