Anyone just use monitors and no back line ?
NancyJohnson replied to Les's topic in General Discussion
We gigged in Reading about a year ago, headliners were supposed to supply backline, but didn't. Sansamp into the desk. Disaster. -
I'll get everything together and see where we stand. I suspect (looking online) that I might go with either Jazz Bass Special neck or an Aerodyne Jazz Bass neck. Thought had crossed my mind about a used Moses or a leftie Status Stingray neck. Anyhoo, early days.

So here's the body...I suppose I'll rub it back a bit and spray it black... Our logo looks like this. I have full artistic control over it, so I can retain the aspect ratio of the words but resize accordingly. ...which should hopefully give me this kind of look: I'm unsure how the Epiphone pickups sound, so for the time being, I'll leave them in situ. I'd like to just have either a single volume control and a pickup selector switch or just a single volume control (both pickups wired together somehow).

I'll say from the outset that this is going to be slow and messy, no doubt. It wouldn't be a lie to say that I've gone through a lot of Thunderbirds over the years, but recently my thoughts have turned to bolting something together and applying one of those vinyl decals over the body with my band name on it ('Who Killed Nancy Johnson?'). Last night I procured a banana coloured loaded Epiphone body. I have chisels. I have parts. Lots of parts. Mwahahaaar!

We only do 30-45 minute sets. I do get a bit crampy in my left calf mainly because of my stance; I tend to carry my weight on my right leg and almost tiptoe on my left.

Kiss/O2 over egging the pudding somewhat!
Kiss discography wikipedia lists over 48 albums?
To save you looking, Wikipedia lists as below and in all likelihood there's probably more that have been released into different markets and been overlooked. 20 studio albums isn't bad going in any respects considering they've only done two albums this century, but they really are the masters of repackaging and selling on. Eleven live albums? 13 compliations? 8 box sets? Kiss discography Studio albums 20 Live albums 8 Compilations 13 Box set albums 8 '78 solo albums 4 Instant Live 3 -
Kiss/O2 over egging the pudding somewhat!

A long long time ago I ran into Ross Halfin, erstwhile rock photographer of this parish. We shot the sh*t about photographic gear (Olympus), film choice (Ilford) and push processing (two stops), and I asked him about some if the bands he worked with. Kiss came up. He said something like, 'Never believe anything that comes out of their mouths. They're the biggest liars I've ever met, especially Simmons.' They're really just the personification of Trumpy, aren't they? Bigging up everything, but they've been doing it for decades. -
Everyone is different, huh? Elixir Nanowebs. It would probably be simpler to list the string manufacturers that I haven't tried during this 30+ sojourn. OK, let's get the negatives out of the way first. They cost £35-40 a set. Drum roll. And that's it. They last for ages. They sound pretty much the same six months after you put them on.

While we're on the subject of Living Colour, I recently snared a copy of one of the early US copies of Stain with the different guitar solos on it. I think its the fifth or sixth version of the album that I'd bought.

New embassy (and also thunderbird) bass, Classic style!
Anybody heard of any shops taking pre orders on the T-bird Vintage? It's only 3 months away
Didn't Mark over on LBO post he'd pre-ordered one through Sweetwater in the US? -
Would that have been around 1996? I saw him at a clinic at the Bass Centre in Birmingham around then and came away a bit disappointed. He spent most of the time playing with loops and noodling - nothing like his Living Colour playing (which was why I went).
I saw him at the Bass Centre in Wapping. I'd concur with the above...he was very entertaining, albeit a little self-indulgent, it has to be said.

I f2cking love that Tech21 are answering stuff here.

I saw Corey Glover (with dUg Pinnick supporting) in New York about 18 months ago. While dUg was great, CGs band wasn't so great, lumbering uncomfortably through a few Living Colour standards, some of his back catalogue (from Hymns) and a couple of covers. We didn't stay until the end. For a guy that should have been an absolutely huge star (and while I know the Body Glove years are well behind him), it was a little sad to see him sweatily sauntering around on stage in a matching pink twinset of jogging trousers and hoodie (which my wife refers to it as the bunny suit), a tweed flat cap and glasses. (oooh, go here http://pancakesandwhiskey.com/2015/05/13/a-night-with-corey-glover-and-dug-pinnick/ ) At one stage he broke down and cried mid-song. My wife and I honestly felt that while people can get emotional, we felt he was just plain not right and needed a bit of help.

I don't mind Doug, but these are Muzzy's lines! That said, it's refreshing to see footage of Living Colour playing to a reasonsbly big crowd, even if most of them probably only know Cult of Personality because it was on Guitar Hero. I'm a big fan of those first three albums although it's much a case of diminishing returns; so much unfulfilled/unrealised potential...they should have been huuuuge and achieved godlike status, but alas, t'wasn't to be. Indifferent, output, side projects, conflict. Tsk.

As far as I know, LPJs of this period were either TV Yellow, Cherry or Sunburst. Insofar as the guitar having never being messed with, it's pretty obvious that it's been stripped at some point, evidenced by the remaining paint in the serial number stamp pressed in the back of the headstock. I'll wager this was originally TV Yellow.
<snip> The last thing I want to be doing is providing a taxi service at the end of a long gig, then drive home on your own knowing that your passenger is safely tucked up in bed. </snip>
I played in a band with a guitarist who liked a beer or two before he played live (and several after). Don't get me wrong, he was wonderfully entertaining when half-cut and I think the band were better for it in some respects. I concur, it's no fun driving 50 miles after a gig with a guy who is falling down drunk and then doing another 20 miles after you've dropped him off.
Is that the Valenti once owned by Richardd if this parish? G.
Three times he's had it. How many times he's owned the bass I'm not sure. As an aside, that Valenti headstock always struck me as a bit of a shocker. Looks like a dog took a bite out of it.

What a nonsense. If you feared for it, why didn't you buy it? Good grief.

Having someone in the band who can't drive would be a major ballache to be honest. We rehearse in a little place near Reading...it's on an old farm miles from anywhere, no public transport. We all have enough on our collective plates and to add an extra tier of hassle in picking up someone or them relying on partner/taxi? Not gonna happen.

Kind of interesting...to my ears it's almost like when you run a bass through a chorus or flange, but with this you now have the ability to hold a particular point in the modulation cycle. If that makes sense.
So I want to make my rack tidy, gotta love a bit of OCD. It'll be a simple power amp and preamp combo, with space for another 1u in there for future tweakery. I want a back plate with power, guitar in, DI and speaker out. Something like the pic below. I like the idea of a single powercon socket for all items in the rack. Anyone know how to do this or someone who could make it for me even? Thanks
Here's mine, front and back. Tuner, Sansamp, Poweramp. The only minor pain in the ass is that it's a bit of a fiddle to get the XLR into the Sansamp for live applications, but otherwise, it's yummy. I bought the PSU from eBay and just keep the mains cable safe by holding it in place with cable ties. You can also see how deep the Matrix is as well; it's shallow enough that I never need to remove the Speakon cable. The Line6 wireless is permanently plumbed into the rear of the Sansamp and held in place by some 3M Dual Lock; if I chose to go wireless, I just have to make sure nothing is plugged into the front of the Sansamp. The spare power outlet allows me to run power to the wireless unit (I'm actually surprised that Line 6 don't make a receiver with a plug built in, visually like one of those Homeplug wi-fi extenders).
