1. As an addendum to my previous post, remember that the Hydrives have high-frequency horns in the enclosure - these can be switched off, halfway or full on. I guess the point I was trying to get over (hell, it was late and I was tired), is that assuming the full frequency range of the 115 is represented numerically by 1-10 (where 1 is the lowest frequency), the main driver would operate from say 1-5 and the horn clicking in at 9-10. It's consequently disingenuous to say it's range is 1-10, when it will simply not deliver a range of frequencies that are outside of it's capabilities (viz. 6-8). Hopefully this makes sense. The 410 however, pretty much handles whatever you want to throw at it and is an affordable, good all round enclosure. Adding the 115 just phattens out the tone. Hope this helps. P
2.
What's the 15" like?.
Same size, similar in weight. When daisy-chained together (with the 410), the 115 delivers a discernible amount of bottom/wobble, but in truth I don't really favour the 115 in isolation as it just doesn't have the output range to suit my tone. If you were looking at getting both cabs, I'd definitely say go for the 410 first and add the 115 later (if you actually think it's necessary); the 410 is more than enough and I only took both because they were available as part of my artist endorsement thingie!
3. I've got a 410 and 115. I was a Hartke endorsee a few years back. The 410 is a fine cabinet; a belter. It's lightish, bright and zingy, no issues with low B strings. A while back I was looking to get shot of all my heavy gear, but have since had a rethink and the Hydrives are staying. The only negative point is the castors didn't seem to last that long and a compatible replacement set of four are like £40.00. Well, screw that. I just went to Screwfix and got a set that cost about £9.00. P
4. I'm selling on my Bugera 4x12 - it's in reasonably good nick - I mean by that that it's been used - full working order, a few dings in the vinyl, front grill is clean. It's a 200watt 16-ohm unit, but can be switched to 2x100w 8ohm stereo. I'm looking for £100...the skinny here is that if it doesn't sell by the weekend of 13th December, I'm already planning to part-exchange it for something smaller, maybe an Orange or Marshall 2x12, so if you need something like this, get in quick. It's been 100% reliable; I was looking for a big cab for another project and this has been great, but as discussed elsewhere, I'm just trying to cut down on the gear I'm carrying. Full Bugera bumf is here: http://www.bugera-amps.com/EN/products/412H-BK.aspx If you're interested, send me a PM. I'm in Crowthorne (near Reading). Cheers
5. Again for balance, I've used Andertons for years. Never had a single problem. I was in there yesterday trying out a head and the service was faultless. One personal observation was that the place seems to have a ton of staff and perhaps in your experience the message got garbled as it went through too many people. Just saying.
6. This is how small it is, up against my BDDI. P
7. Gave this head a fairly long test drive earlier today at Andertons in Guildford. Gotta say it left me a little speechless. It's pretty, loud, lightweight and all round yummy and about the size and weight of a box of Shreddies. Tonally it's fairly transparent; with all the settings at the 12 o'clock position it took a feed from my Sansamp without any issue. Plugged in direct, equally nice in a clean kind of way. Aside from the obvious, the Tone Print feature is just the knockout punch here. I had my guitarist with me and when I dialled in a chorus via the Android app he didn't have the words to cover the awe he said he felt. Tried several Tone Prints, all loaded first time and all sounded sweet. I had about an hour noodling on it. A brilliant bit of kit. Just need to free up some swag (buy my Thunderbird someone!!). P
8. Sansamp BDDI as the front end...recorded direct. Nice grunt!
9. Bump. No sale rush here...band now quiet until New Year.
10. I'm offering up one of my Thunderbirds - really do need to invest in a lightweight head. It's dated June 2008, vintage sunburst. Hipshot Supertone bridge and Dunlop Straploks (strap side fittings also included). I'll supply the Gibson three point bridge with the sale in case the purchaser wants to revert it to stock and sell the Hipshot on. Original hard case included. The bass is pretty minty; one small surface ding below the middle screw on the scratchplate (didn't even know this was there until I checked over the bass) - it's visible on the shot below if you view the full size image). Plays beautifully. I used it on this track: I'm based in Crowthorne, about 15 minutes equidistant from J3/J4 of the M3. Will happily courier this at buyers expense. Collection is fine. Thanks Paul
11. I suppose a lot of this is down to sale and demand factors. There does seem to be a load of very competitively priced used Fenders out there, but then there also seems to be tons of new ones about as well. From my experience of two other brands Gibson and Rickenbacker - the frankly ridiculous front end pricing (along with UK availability) of basses made by these companies is understandaby pushing prices up in the secondhand market. That said, it's like houses. Why should I sell one of my basses for less than the market price?
12. Fan early on. Only ever saw them once, while Muzzy was still a member - Town and Country Club maybe. To be honest, didn't really like the gig, too much jamming in the songs...they never played anything straight. While I have a soft spot for Vivid and Time's Up, I lost interest when Muzz Skillings left/was fired. Not doubting that Doug Wimbush has chops, but [they] seemed to change musically to accommodate Doug Wimbush more than continuing where they left off. I'd hasten to add that despite the backstory behind songs like Landlord/Cult/Funny Vibe, there was a bit of humour/fun in those first two albums that disappeared when Wimbush joined. (Personally) I don't think they've aged that gracefully either; the last two albums (Collideoscope and Chair In the Doorway), to my ears at least, just sound a bit tired and doing-it-for-the-money rather than sounding like a band who are doing it from the heart. Believe me, I've tried very hard to absorb those records. I've often wondered how well these albums would have stood up had they come out a year or two after Stain rather than at the end of an eight or nine years sabbatical. .
13. I'm just going to throw something into the mix here. A few years ago, I installed a John East retro unit into a Jazz bass and experienced something similar to what you're describing. From memory I recall there was a couple of trim controls on the active unit to allow a bit of balance/parity between active/passive output - it was something as simple as adjusting a pair of tiny screws in the active part of the circuit. I know all these things are different...if it's working in both modes, perhaps you simply need to tweak the output settings (if there are some). Also, try a new battery! P
14. Didn't the FIRST series of Wal have a bigger/squarer headstock?
15. Umajets. Two albums, first one great, second so-so. The Merrymakers, pretty good; Bubblegun is brilliant. There's also a rarities collection available online if you search hard enough. There's other associated stuff. Bleu, Moog Cookbook, LEO. Redd Kross? If you want to hear stuff that sounds like Jellyfish, then check out Sensory Lullaby, Millicent Friendly, Mike Elgert, Taxiride, The JTG Implosion, The Superficials, Straw, The Tories. I would wholeheartedly also recommend the sadly defunct Sugarbomb as well...pretenders to the Jellyfish crown.
16. There's a load of good information elsewhere on Basschat...one post has a very long list of builders/techs. Umm, be a bit more specific as to what the issue is, what needs doing, what bass it is etc.and no doubt someone will be right along. P
17. Wikipedia is your friend I just wish they would put their differences to bed and go out live again.
18. I remember issues with Spilt Milk being released over here. My parents got me a copy in the US...jeepers, my dad died twenty years ago today and my mum still reminds me not to forget I owe her for that CD!
19. Any Jellyfish fans out there? Omnivore Recordings, who are handling their back catalogue now, have announced Bellybutton and ...presents Spilt Milk reissues for January 2015. I don't believe that these will contain anything that wasn't already on the Not Lame 4CD Fan Club set, but the remastering will be worth the ticket price alone. Omnivore actually seem to care about what they're doing...good label. Paul Here's the trailer: Spilt Milk period Ghost At Number One (from Later): and Bye Bye Bye (also Jools):
20. There's a ton of gear there. The buyers premium thing is a bit frightening...total of 41% markup. According to their spiel: Bid price 100.00 Buyer’s premium @ 17.5% plus VAT = £21.00 VAT @ 20% on £100 = £20.00 Total £141.00 I wouldn't have minded putting in a bid for a Crest Pro-lite, but there's not one!! P
21. The 550 and 800 are fairly recent...the videos were added to You Tube at the start of October, so a couple of months tops. You do wonder why the Gumtree guy is selling so quickly. Trader maybe? Paul
22. Sorry...I've edited this post completely! Right here goes. I'm curious about how transparent these amps are. While I love the size/weight and the concept of adding effects via the Tone Port, my front end/desired tone [dirt] is shaped by a handful of Sansamp units. While I suppose it's feasible that there may be a close overdriven effect available via the Tone Port, my preference would generally be the Sansamp RBI/BDDI/VT Bass units and I wouldn't want to drop them, As there's no effects loop, the Sansamps will go in front of the amp...these units all have independent tone controls, so my question is when the amp's tone controls (bass/mid/treble) are at the noon position are these heads tonally flat? Cheers Paul
23. Fancy a road trip? I'm not buying but it would be good to look at some different product. I can swing past Windsor en route!
24. I haven't found anyone else, so I guess there's a good chance they are.
