1. Wouldn't it be a thing if someone made a 1U pizza oven. P
2. Discreet...yep, not an old lady! Sorry if you're disappointed. Nancy Johnson is the name of my band. (There's a long and convoluted reason behind the name; a few people know.) P
3. I picked up this 4003 about ten days ago...I've been using Thunderbirds for some time and armed with some good advice and available funds, I went for a Rickenbacker. Been a long road for me. I had a copy as a kid many years ago, loved them in the early Rush/punk days, fell out of love for a long, long time and then a guy I worked with said he had a 4001, I had a lunchtime loan and I was smitten again.. It's a nice alternative to the Thunderbirds, but to be honest it sounds very similar, but only because I'm setting my gear to make it sound similar, if you get my meaning. Irrespective, nothing but positive comments in the band, both on the look and tone. I've removed the treble pickup cover and installed a coved pickup bezel to fill up the ugly gap. The bass comes with Schaller compatible strap lugs, so I just fitted the strap-side fixings to a strap. Here's a pic from last Saturday (Basingstoke Live Festival). I'll post more if anyone is interested. P
4. I've used a Sansamp BDDI for live and recording for years, more recently an racked RBI. In all cases, these were/are plugged into the effects return on whatever head I'm using. I just think these pedals give me more of my desired tone than just plugging straight in, so much so, my Ashdown ABM will probably be moved along in favour of a class-D poweramp at some stage. I rarely tweak, just plug in and play. P
5. Grainy phone pic from last Thursday night. I've removed the pickup cover and bought one of those bezel/filler thingies to make the rout look tidier. I've done a little tweaking to set it up more to my taste (lower action/pickups adjusted). Through the Sansamp it sounds pant-wettingly lovely. One other thing - I figured the strap lugs would come out easy so I could screw in some Dunlop Straploks. Wrong. The stock Rickenbacker lugs are Schaller compatible, so you can just get a set of these and just use the strap side parts. P
6. Well, I pulled the trigger and am now an owner of a 4003 in Jetglo. Gotta say I'm bowled over. Undoubted, that I'll use this constantly for the next couple of months and then go back to my Thunderbirds, but it's a nice backup option to have. P
7. My band, Nancy Johnson (aww, come on, you didn't think my username was really my real name did you?), are playing the Creative Stage at this years Basingstoke Live event. We're on around 1.30pm/1.45pm - 'The Lunch Set' It's free (woo!), last year they had 65,000 people in over two days (woo-woo). Lots of great local bands (including us). Come along for a pogo. Say hello. Buy me a beer. Message ends. P x
8. Just bought a bass from George. Lovely guy, great comms etc. Cheers matey!
9. I'm in Crowthorne...Camberley about ten minutes. Will be ok to collect if you win. I just collected/shipped a 65 Amps 1x15 cabinet for another member here. P
10.
Only if you're 25
Aah.
11. Saw Japan many many times in the early years. Personally, and as a fan, I'd like to see more about his gear; he's known for the Travis Bean and Wal basses, but there were others.
12. 30+ qualifies as older now? Blimey. P
13. It's been a very slow burn for me. Loved Steve Priest, Geddy, the punk thing...tonally great, visually nope. I'd even considered buying the guts of a 4001/4003 and putting it into something else. I borrowed one for about an hour and I was hooked, ALTHOUGH my Thunderbird obsession got the better of me, but I've decided it's now or never. Hopefully in a couple of weeks. Emails have been exchanged etc. p
14. Long thread over on the Hamer Club that Mike Shishkov, one of Hamer's master-builders has set up shop independently. He's starting out with a limited run of chambered bodied Standard models (that's a Gibson Explorer copy to you and me ), but he looks like he's taking enquiries for other builds. The font on his logo seems very familiar: http://www.shishkovguitars.com/ P
15. 50m of bubblewrap in the house. Cabinet should be heading north in the next few days. For anyone interested, the 65 Amps cabinet sounds freaking awesome. And soooo pretty. P
16. I have some serious GAS for a Rickenbacker at the moment, but in a market flooded with fakes, I'm wondering, Ric owners, are there any identifying things I need to look out for to determine the possibility that I'm not about to pick up a faker? Anything I need to look for? P
17. I live in Crowthorne...a couple of minutes from Sandhurst. Where has the cabinet got to end up? The good people of Basschat could team up and get this to it's new owner!
18. I will echo my now trademarked comment for things of beauty and awesomeness. Ahem. 'I just did a bit of jizz.' So, so beautiful. P
