SOLD: Gibson Thunderbird Ebony/97. Buy me.

There was some nonsense circulating a few years back about the extension of the E-string gave for a more even tension...no idea as to the validity of this.

I've made preliminary enquiries with both Lull and Bass Direct - there's no black ones available, but Lull have all the bits ready to build one. I have a couple of choices here...Bass Direct price is £3.1K (eek!), but I could get a mate to pick one up and bring it in when he makes a trip over (which is frequently). The long and the short of this is that I'm going to do my darnedest to land one, one way or another. My wife has given it a conditional thumbs up, but I'm not allowed to dip into last years redundancy swag, so I'm gonna need to sell a couple of basses - probably the 4003 and one of my Thunderbirds. That should do it. Wish me luck. P

My plan for 2015 is to clear out some stuff and spend a stupid amount on something very special. With this in mind, the next to go is this, my 1997 Gibson Thunderbird. It's got a Hipshot Supertone Bridge and Dunlop straplocks; I have the original three point bridge should any purchaser wish to revert it back to stock. Since this photo was taken, I've put Gibson silver top hats on it. OK, the dirt. This has been my main bass for a few months now, it plays great and sounds (to my ears) the nuts, just like a Thunderbird should. Super low borderline rattly action, plays easily and fast. Understandably for a well gigged bass approaching twenty years old, it's seen some action, so much so that this was a bass I was considering having refinished, but now that I have another plan afoot I've shelved that, so let's just say that it's got some mojo. (Quite why I put that in italics, I'm unsure.) Comes with the original case (it's an orangy/brown one). Happy to ship at buyers expense. Will post more photos if anyone want to see them. Local collection is fine (near Reading). Happy to answer any questions. P

I didn't like the headstocks, now I kind of do. P

I've never owned one, but if I can make a teensy-weensy observation/comment it's that the headstock on the above models is way better than the chewed by a bear ones on the later models. Message ends. P

Replacement tuners for my Epiphone Dot and more...
NancyJohnson replied to BassAgent's topic in Guitars
I put Sperzel locking machines on my Dot (Studio). The stock machines were shocking. -
Over the years I've installed a handful of video unblockers in my Firefox browser. Consequently, it plays fine on mine. Sorry!

New bass amp/speaker concept
NancyJohnson replied to Caledonian_Enterprises's topic in General Discussion
Do you mean that you're intending to make the speaker cab from perspex? I'm not sure how good an idea that is, since it would have to be thick and heavy to achieve the necessary stiffness, and speaker cabs should really be lined with wadding or acoustic foam which would spoil the visual impact of using a clear material. It does seem rather like design for design's sake.
As soon as I saw this, pretty much all these points came to mind before I'd even got this far down the thread. It's a shame you've even taken this concept this far and not seemingly considered/known about the internal workings of a(ny) cabinet. I'd also add that the cabinet isn't going to look so pretty once it's been lumped into the back of your chosen transport a few times either. Surely once it took a knock, the perspex would crack/chip/bend? Also, what material are you going to use on the front panel to protect the cones from all those flying bottles (of piss)? Considering the prices you're pitching it at, you can get an awful lot of cabinet elsewhere for £1,000. Would I spend a grand on this? Umm, no. P -
I saw some recent photos of Geddy and he's kind of turning into what my grandmother looked like!! The Rock Icon season premiered last night in the US, so (hopefully) someone will upload it somewhere for the rest of the planet to watch. Looking at the season trailer, I'm also looking for to the Nikki Sixx one...I do confess to some enduring Crue love; Too Fast For Love and the John Corabi fronted Motley Crue, but aside from this I really don't give a damn about the rest of their output. I've always been drawn to their backstory and find both Sixx and Lee somewhat charismatic and very entertaining. Hopefully, that'll be a good one.

I've never read BGM, but I'm tempted to now if only to determine whether it's the train wreck that many here say it is. I subscribe to Bass Player (US) and that's got worse and worse; each edition features more white paper than editorial and there is too high of a reliance on too few manufacturers (perhaps money is changing hands, who knows?). I suppose being a monthly publication it's always going to be a few steps behind the pace as well. Let's face it; we are approaching the slow death of printed matter. Everything will go digital eventually, which is a shame as I'm really not a fan of using my tablet when I'm on the bog.
I'm going to assume this is a critique on the whole "opinion as fact" thing. If I'm wrong about that, shut your piehole
bwahaha

I remember seeing It Bites debut this song at the old Guildford Civic Hall...this was before the album came out. Me and my mate just stood slackjawed. I know there was Yes and Genesis and Rush doing their poop, but this was different; guys roughly our age exposing us to an amazing piece. I listened to it again a few days ago. It's as awesome now as it was 25-odd years ago.

Whats the hardest bassline you've ever played?
