There's a new range of Sterling Subs coming. Hold your money for the moment. First reviews (Bass Player US) indicates they're seriously cheap and seriously good. P

If you search hard [on Youtube], you'll turn up some footage of them live in a record store about seven or eight months back, playing to a couple of people and a small girl, while shoppers were browsing the racks. Now they've got a number one album. I bought it the album and it's a good collection of tunes...even though my usual fair is a darn site heavier, I'd happily recommend the CD to anyone. P

I had a black one with the scratchplate (not sure whether this qualifies it as an export or non-export). Played lovely, but I had to shift it to reduce my overdraft. I'd like another one. P

I'm giving some consideration to parting out the following: ...my only condition is that all the parts go to good homes and that I'm not really left with anything. My cat isn't for sale. Despite what the above says, a brief rundown of the parts are as follow: Mighty Mite Jazz-bass neck. Straight, satin smooth, lovely...£75.00 (The logo is a peel off transparent transfer, it'll come off clean) Machine heads are unbranded Fender units (I got them here some time ago, came off a reissue P-bass). £20.00 **Held for Untune** Control plate is from a Fender Geddy Lee bass (soldering on the reverse is best described as icky...I tried various pickups/wiring, but am reasonably sure it would clean up fine). £15.00 Bridge is a Fender model with the spiralled/grooved saddles. £10.00 **Held for Untune** Pickup plate is a Fender unit. £5.00 Neck plate is of unknown origin...I'll throw that in with the neck. Pickups. There's a Wilkinson P-Bass in the p-bass position and an unbranded MM-style unit at the bridge. The Wilkinson is high output and very lively (I've also got one in another bass, they're that good) £12.00, a fiver will secure the MM-unit.**Wilkinson pickup held for Tom1946** The body is quite nasty; plywood and has two quite humungous routs in it, but the paint-job is something else, don't you think? If anyone wants it, I'm happy enough to let it go to anyone who will cover postage costs. I'll cover postage on the small parts, but the neck will need boxing/mailing unless anyone wants to pick it up (I'm near Reading). If anyone wants the whole thing, contact me as I'm sure I can get you the name of a good doctor. Now the nasty stuff. If anyone is interested in the neck, I would take it with the machines. I didn't fit these, but as a word of warning, the E-string machine isn't smooth, which alludes it's not set that well. The others are fine. That's it. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. Cheers P

I'm sure a lot of you have seen, maybe even purchased parts from, eBay seller CH Guitars. Appears Chris is now bolting together his parts to produce his own basses. £239 buys this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Custom-CH-Guitars-Telecaster-Precision-Bass-based-1951-model-Natural-/130611779113?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1e69119629 ...quite nice. Bass Shops and a Round the World Trip
NancyJohnson replied to Mylkinut's topic in General Discussion
I've only been a handful of Guitar Center stores...visited one in Las Vegas about three or four years back and concur with your experience. High ceilings, basses stacked three high and definitely an attitude of here you are and off you go. I was with a mate of mine...I could hear him over in the drum section thumping away, so I joined in, me on a Geddy through a nice Hartke setup then a guitarist started jamming over what we were doing elsewhere in the store. Quite surreal. I know people will diss GC, but for what they are (the musical instrument equivalent of Sainburys) there's nothing not to like. P -
DR Jonas Hellborg Signature strings
NancyJohnson replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Hardware & Accessories
Despite the comment in the final paragraph as to whether I'd buy them again, some three years on, I did invest in a second set, but this time for Thunderbird. The wrap/windings now go the entire length of the E & A strings (which caused a small issue as the E-string machine head post on the TB was barely wide enough to take the string), but otherwise, all good. They sound very nice. P -
Get down to Halfords...couldn't find what I needed at Homebase/B&Q. It's not expensive...I bought three cans of red and a clearcoat and it was around £20.00 for the lot. P
-
Daz They've very nice...I did a couple of gigs with them and a couple of very long rehearsals before my layoff and they didn't appear to lose any zing. I did use some Fast Fret on them initially as they seemed to suck the moisture out of my fingers (maybe something to do with the coating). Jammed with them last week and just decided to change for tomorrow night. I'd recommend them. P
-
Four string set. Been on my Thunderbird for a few weeks but about three weeks inactivity due to thumb-op. Still reasonably zingy, but changed due to gig on Tuesday. PM and I'll send them Monday. P

I read (most of) the TB thread. Interestingly, the designs by the guy who says David/Probass/Retrovibe stole his design initially struck me, with a small bit of chamferring (how do you spell this?? ) under the right forearm position, as bearing somewhat of a resemblance to Cort's T-bass series: Z-Bass guy: P

I just added a photo of the black one. How hot would an all black model look? Well look, if David wants to send me one, I'll do a review. I'm gigging on 13th and supposed to be recording the week after that. P

I've seen the tantalising remark on the Probass site and have been wondering for a while what the Vantage is going to look like. Skimming through eBay and here it is: ...I have to say I quite like it in a Ricky-Fenderish style. P

Don't drill dead centre on the heel. You may drill into the truss rod. P
-
I bought a fretted/sunburst one of these last weekend through Gumtree, Reading (in fact it was a job lot, a bass, two guitars and a Park practice amp for £50...yup, £50). Aside from the faults...it's got dings a plenty, was badly set up, dead strings, broken volume pot...once I'd given the truss rod a tweak, put on some new strings and given it a set up, it was surprisingly nice. The output is off the scale, so high. It has aftermarket Schaller machines on it as well. I've put on Dunlop Straploks and I'm just waiting for new pots and a couple of knurled control knobs and I can screw it back together again. P
