1.
So is the Geddy closer to the bridge or not? Thanks
No. The Geddy pickups are in exactly the same place as the current US models. ONLY the 1970s reissue has the pickup closer to the bridge. If you look at my original photo, I've just layered the current 70s reissue over a Geddy Lee model. Look at the bridge pickup. P
2.
Hey I was just drooling over the Geddy Lee Jazz. Gas is far to high this month. With the pickups...are they positioned differently to how a 'modern' jazz would be? Do they sound less aggressive? Just wondering....price tag aint so bad. Cheers! (PS I searched and found load of reviews which made me GAS more!)
I've just Photoshopped a Geddy, the current US Standard Jazz and a Mexico 70s reissue. The pickups on the Geddy and the current US model are in the same place. On the 70s reissue the bridge pickup is closer to the bridge (which is correct) - it's about 1/2 to 3/4 of the pickup width closer to the bridge. For the benefit of this, result attached. Don't quite get it when people ask about the aggression! There's so many factors; amp, speakers, technique. I've not changed anything and it's got plenty of thump and output. It's very hot. I'm running it into an amp (Tech21 Landmark) that shares the same pre-stage (Sansamp) that Geddy Lee uses...if you ramp up the gain and play it hard enough expect elements of that tone I suppose. Last week I put it through an Ashdown ABM setup for a couple of minutes and it was just horrible. I lugged my gear in and used that. Best P
3. I have three Ampex tape reels for sale - 2x 499 and 1x 456. Both 1". AFAICR they've been used on a single pass only..we'd buy new ones for each session. Tapes have been stored in a cool and dry place for a few years. I've had a little look on the interweb about these; the 456 is probably worth about £30.00 and the 499s about £50.00. If anyone is interested, let me know - there's a condition. The tapes have some old demos on them and I'd like to (a) know what's on them and, ( get a decent stereo mix in a lossless audio codec. I think they're 16 track recording. Cheers P
4. Just sold a Badass II bridge to Josh. Top bloke! Cheers P
5. At the top of each page you get a root directory locator/linked page hierachy (>Basschat.co.uk>"The Local">Site News>Site Issues) - would it be possible to repeat this at the bottom of of each page of the thread? Between the last post and 'Fast Reply' buttons maybe. It would make navigation easier than using the browser back button or scrolling up to the top of the page. Also, is there any way of displaying more than about 20/25 posts per page? I guess most people are on broadband now so 50 or even 100 wouldn't really cause a connection issue. Cheers P
6.
Yep. I'll take it!
Sold to Mr T! P
7.
What's wrong with Elites? I share the same opinion, lighter strings are nicer - just curious as to why you do like them, as I havn't really tried any other strings! Cheers
Sorry about hijacking the thread. I started out on Rotosounds...there wasn't really anything else. Moved over to Elites after many years and after a while the quality control really dipped...they didn't last very long at all and sounded flat quickly. Met Jason Howe at a trade show and he gave me some Rotosounds to try and they were just lousy. Went back to Elites and then moved onto D'Addarios. Consistently good. Nice, bright and long-lasting. They boil up well too. P
8. Yummy. Love Bongos. I think if I could shift my Precision I'd be up for a 5HH. P
9. Here's photos of the front and back. It's a bit grubby - the bridge came of a body that arrived at lunchtime. You should see the crap that's on the body! P
10. I would say, pretty much without hesitation, that any BadAss bridge would fit any Fender Jazz or Precision, so long as it has a standard five hole fixing. Which is pretty much every Jazz and Precision. P
11. No use for this...came with a body I just picked up. No screws. Sorry! Doesn't look as though it's ever been installed. Holes all line up with my Geddy. £10.00 delivered sound good for anyone? Cheers P
12. Like it says. The saddles have been notched. Came off a bass body I've just had delivered...no use for it. Includes the screws! £35 posted? Cheers P
13.
Based in Tamworth - just up the road from me. They are pretty good, nice guys to deal with.
+1 P
14.
The woman in the photo seems less than convinced. Love the bass, love Nancy's top
This was at a talent show...1980s. I was seventeen or eighteen. Seems to be a bit of a mullet going on too. The woman was one of the other acts. The top came from Debenhams the very same morning. It itched like hell. P
15. I had one of these. Happy days. No screw that, very happy days. I loved that Ibanez. P
16. Excuse my ignorance, but are these reissue parts or 40 year old 1960s parts? If they're reissue parts, can I have first dibs on the machine heads? Irrespective, photos always help. P
17.
And here's Judy Finnigan-alike Clarky at the Hope & Anchor with the aforementioned early 80s 4001
Clarky That picture is priceless. I just love the way everyone spends a fortune on amplifiers and then hoik them up on a plastic beer crate. I have dozens of shots like this. P
18. Don't know whether this is the correct area to post this, but hey-ho. Pickups. I've always taken them for granted and haven't really tended to swap things about much. Right now I'm in the process of sourcing parts for a project bass, which will be based around a Jazz. Very basically, I want the bass to run passive, with a simple two volume control and either a rotary dial or switch so I can select both or either pickup individually. No tone controls. All this should fit nicely in a Jazz bell plate. I could go out and just buy a pair of Seymour Duncans for a Jazz, but I'm looking for something different...I don't want to have to be set with two JB pickups just because they fit the routing. I want to try stuff out...sit pickups in different positions, chop the body if necessary etc. Insofar as pickups go, I've been trawling the web and find that most aftermarket manufacturers will just describe their products in words...there is very little out there by way of audio demos. I guess soundwise primarily I'm looking for some dirt and good/high output. Not much to ask for. If I went with a homegrown manufacturer like Wizard (I've got a Wiz in my Precision), what is the benefit of installing a pair of Jazz pickups over a pair of Musicman-style pickups? I do understand that different pickups sound different, but how much so? I like the sound from my Geddy and from my DJ5, but just want to try something else on the project guitar. I can't best describe my dilemma, but hopefully you'll understand! I'd appreciate any pointers. Best P
19.
As in this?? http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/s...fishing+trolley
Yep, that's the one. Heaviest/bulkiest that's been on it is a Marshall 4x12 and a big cable box. No problem. Easily big (and deep) enough for my Mag 4x10. The little fold down legs can be a pain the the arse (sometimes they just don't drop into place), but by and large, it's a fantastic little trolley. Weighs next to nothing. My old guitarist also used to use it at gigs to raise his cabinet up a bit. Buy JLPs one! P
20. Going back to the original thread, I use a fishing trolley I got from Argos. If I don't use that, my drummer carries it out to the car (seriously). He's soooooo keen. P
21. I played one in the USA two summers ago and I f2cking loved it. Budgetary restrictions meant I didn't actually land one until earlier this year and pound for pound, it's a wonderful bass. That said, it isn't my main bass. That honour goes to a DJ5. P
22. Headstock: The guy says the serial number is: K034424. I don't see a K prefix on the Fender serial number site. Any idea what it's alluding to be? P
23. Heh, I've asked him to post a photo of the headstock including the serial number. 4 standard 'Rotosound' bass strings indeed. P
24.
Resurrecting this thread as I have another new Spector acquisition.... A lovely Poplar Burl topped Spector Euro LX  She's a beauty ain't she?!
That is very sweet. I shall look forward to putting it out of tune very soon. P
