2.
The woman in the photo seems less than convinced. Love the bass, love Nancy's top
This was at a talent show...1980s. I was seventeen or eighteen. Seems to be a bit of a mullet going on too. The woman was one of the other acts. The top came from Debenhams the very same morning. It itched like hell. P
 3. I had one of these. Happy days. No screw that, very happy days. I loved that Ibanez. P
 4. Excuse my ignorance, but are these reissue parts or 40 year old 1960s parts? If they're reissue parts, can I have first dibs on the machine heads? Irrespective, photos always help. P
 5.
And here's Judy Finnigan-alike Clarky at the Hope & Anchor with the aforementioned early 80s 4001
Clarky That picture is priceless. I just love the way everyone spends a fortune on amplifiers and then hoik them up on a plastic beer crate. I have dozens of shots like this. P
 6. Don't know whether this is the correct area to post this, but hey-ho. Pickups. I've always taken them for granted and haven't really tended to swap things about much. Right now I'm in the process of sourcing parts for a project bass, which will be based around a Jazz. Very basically, I want the bass to run passive, with a simple two volume control and either a rotary dial or switch so I can select both or either pickup individually. No tone controls. All this should fit nicely in a Jazz bell plate. I could go out and just buy a pair of Seymour Duncans for a Jazz, but I'm looking for something different...I don't want to have to be set with two JB pickups just because they fit the routing. I want to try stuff out...sit pickups in different positions, chop the body if necessary etc. Insofar as pickups go, I've been trawling the web and find that most aftermarket manufacturers will just describe their products in words...there is very little out there by way of audio demos. I guess soundwise primarily I'm looking for some dirt and good/high output. Not much to ask for. If I went with a homegrown manufacturer like Wizard (I've got a Wiz in my Precision), what is the benefit of installing a pair of Jazz pickups over a pair of Musicman-style pickups? I do understand that different pickups sound different, but how much so? I like the sound from my Geddy and from my DJ5, but just want to try something else on the project guitar. I can't best describe my dilemma, but hopefully you'll understand! I'd appreciate any pointers. Best P
 7.
As in this?? http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/s...fishing+trolley
Yep, that's the one. Heaviest/bulkiest that's been on it is a Marshall 4x12 and a big cable box. No problem. Easily big (and deep) enough for my Mag 4x10. The little fold down legs can be a pain the the arse (sometimes they just don't drop into place), but by and large, it's a fantastic little trolley. Weighs next to nothing. My old guitarist also used to use it at gigs to raise his cabinet up a bit. Buy JLPs one! P
 8. Going back to the original thread, I use a fishing trolley I got from Argos. If I don't use that, my drummer carries it out to the car (seriously). He's soooooo keen. P
 9. I played one in the USA two summers ago and I f2cking loved it. Budgetary restrictions meant I didn't actually land one until earlier this year and pound for pound, it's a wonderful bass. That said, it isn't my main bass. That honour goes to a DJ5. P
 10. Headstock: The guy says the serial number is: K034424. I don't see a K prefix on the Fender serial number site. Any idea what it's alluding to be? P
 11. Heh, I've asked him to post a photo of the headstock including the serial number. 4 standard 'Rotosound' bass strings indeed. P
 12.
Resurrecting this thread as I have another new Spector acquisition.... A lovely Poplar Burl topped Spector Euro LX  She's a beauty ain't she?!
That is very sweet. I shall look forward to putting it out of tune very soon. P
 13.
Yeah, I alway think that it would be a bad idea to use one's real name on any forum anywhere. I usually create unique words for internet names. Golchen was an abbreviation of my favourite chinese takeaway Golden kitchen. I didn't know at the time that it is also a tiny village in Germany!
It's also Flemish for Golden Shower. P
 14.
my god. oh my f^^king god that's beautiful...
+1. I just don't get Fender...why can't they produce something like this from stock? With a couple of very simple mods (BadAssII, black pickguard and chrome plate) you have produced a quite beautiful looking bit of kit. A few weeks back I declared that at four basses, that was it. Enough. No more basses. After seeing those pics, I've added a subtle in 2009 to that. Cracking. P
 15. If you're Reading/Berkshire based and have a love of The Wildhearts, 3 Colours Red, Foo Fighters, I just spotted this band (The No-Ones) are looking for bass with vocals. The two songs on MySpace are pretty good. Be aware though, John Mitchell (It Bites/Kino) is playing bass and producing at the moment Original Berkshire Live! post. Good luck P
 16. I posted here a couple of weeks back to see whether anyone had a black guard for a Geddy Lee jazz. A couple of offers etc. Went with an aftermarket job from an eBay seller in Belgium/Holland - DN-Store - single ply in black - under £10.00. Arrived in the mail this morning posted two days ago) and installed (or should that be onstalled?) a few minutes ago. Photo below. All the holes lined up except for the last one above the neck which was about 1mm out. Looks nice. P
 17.

On the John Myung picture, the X inlay on the fingerboard looks one fret wrong...you'd think that the centre of it would be between the 11th and 12th fret, thus designating the position/marker of the octave. It's actually between the 12th and 13th, so technically the centre of the inlay is one fret sharp of the octave position. That said, I doubt that it's actually on the fingerboard for any other purpose than design over functionality. P
 18.
John Deacon showed as much good taste in his decision to leave the dodgy Queen resurrection stuff well alone as he always did in his playing and song writing. He's a class act. I was lucky enough to see Queen live in 1976 & it still ranks as one of the greatest shows I've ever seen.
I only saw them once...Lewisham Odeon December 1979. Crazy Little Tour of London. P
 19.
Or are you just as likely to buy something modern that would be indistinguishable when it comes to sound ?
I love the look of an old beaten up [sunburst] bass, but have always maintained that new gear sounds/plays better. It's flares and pointy headstocks. Trends change. I've got an old Precision (sill available...) but I'd argue that my newer gear sounds much nicer. P
 20. Can I just post here that my intention was just to say he's alive and well (and according to The Times rich list good for £70m) and that the photos were as much a surprise to me on seeing them as they were to you lot. This thread wasn't really for anyone to declare where he drinks etc. I respect the guy on so many levels (well aside from bubble-perms and Hot Space) - he is/was a great player and he retired with a degree of grace and decorum only to let May/Taylor sally the Queen name in his absence. Maybe the ops can delete the postings (or blank out) his drinking haunts. Best P
 21.
Are talking about John Deacon of Queen? because he aint on those pics, is he?
Yes yes P
 22. Always wondered what happened to John Deacon...sadly he's kind of morphing into Paul Daniels. Best P
 23.
CGCF Using 110s.....Its not enough...Im going to go to .125s Im up for challenging the string makers ala Hellborg,to make a string as tonally responsive as a lighter guage (toppy with a great deal of sustain) but capable of taking a lower tuning, and not losing any of the top end...or said sustain. That said,Bass strings are still over priced.
I'm using DR Hellborgs on my Jazz (see my review). At the time I wrote that, I thought they were a little gimmicky, but I've really grown to like them. They're very easy on the right hand when finger-pluckin' and they ring for ages. I haven't actually jammed with them yet...next week...we'll see how they figure in a band situation and whether they cut the mustard for me in that enviroment. AFAIK, they don't do them in five string sets (yet) or different gauges. P
 24. Does anyone on here tune down whilst using a heavier gauge string set? Never done this but I'm interested in a bit of experimentation...maybe going down to C#/F#/Bb/E...bit of an extended low range. If you do, what gauges/tunings are you using? Cheers P
