  1. Back then? We're not talking the 1940s. The t-shirt I'm currently wearing pre-dates my NR purchase!
  2. The Sweet. Specifically, Sweet F*nny Adams, Desolation Boulevard and the rebooted Strung Up album.
  3. The NR Thunderbirds are now listed on the Andertons site for £1,650.00, so more than double what I paid for my first run NRs about nine years ago. I'll pass this time around.
  4. 'The bottle stopper' With so many people suffering from this form of arthritis, you'd think that procedures would become a little less arcane...my wife commented once something along the lines of, 'well, can't they just take the bone out and put another (metallic) cuboid thing in there?' It's a great idea, but you have to consider that a piece of titanium will just wear down the bones going into it. It's amazing how failure of such a small piece of one's body can be so debilitating.
  5. I've gone from running biggish rack systems/dual cabinet set ups to having a desire for small set ups. All my front end tone comes off either the Dug Pinnick or Geddy Lee Sansamps, so I just want to amplify that signal as purely as possible. I can see the allure of racked gear, but I don't want to go back to that; I genuinely like the idea of the Demeter Minnie and a Sansamp.
  6. Bwahaha. Err, nope. In most cases, in the majority of cases, the sound guy has never heard a note you've played and has little idea what you're supposed to sound like as a unit. Be nice to the sound guy, yes, but beyond that? Nah. Being nice to the sound guy is akin to not sending your main course back to the kitchen.
  7. Haven't had my trapeziods removed, but suspect it's coming, I suppose come the time, it's just a case of deciding which process is better (the rolled up tendon or the bottle stopper/ball joint method). To be honest, I've seen some horrific stuff online (people in persistent pain etc.) and I believe that when it's time to have the op, I suspect I'll park bass playing for good; that said, I do wonder at the age we live in, wherein a rolled up tendon can be used to replace a dice shape bone. Turmeric helps as an anti-inflammatory - I don't take it daily because the pain isn't there all the time. I also take glucosamine sulphate occasionally which purports to be good for the cartledge generally. Oh the pain of getting old. Well, older.
  8. I read that thread about an hour ago! Nobody seems to carry Demeter stuff, so I reckon it might be a case if going direct to James D. to see what he can do.
  9. I am getting a bit moist about the Demeter Minnie 800D. As I've mentioned elsewhere, we seem to buy these amps and just try and set things flat(tish) to accommodate stuff we either stick in the front or just utilise the effects return. I honestly don't need the preshape gubbins, I just use the Sansamps to create my tone. Right, now to find out who sells these.
  10. It was 'Dear God' that got the American's panties in a twist.
  11. I saw the Van Halen a couple of times early on (Rainbow, Finsbury Park) and then again at Donington in 1984. Obviously, it was the Dave'n'Eddie show, but Michael Anthony always struck me as a square peg in a round hole. That he was also disrespectful of DLR was just odd, given that it was Roth (coming from an affluent Pasadena family) was effectively the driving force of Anthony's mealticket out of cover band mediocrity and baseball. Perhaps (as he was a salaried member), DLR and da-brudders just saw him as someone non-threatening. I suppose all my rawk brethren considered him to be wholly underwhelming in the band too; don't know what they would have sounded with Billy Sheehan, for instance.
  12. 'Look at me, I love Jack! I'd have it on me fecking cornflakes, me!' The obsession with bourbon is about as 80s as the pointy basses here. Oh, and I can't stand Michael Anthony either; he's like the 80s metal equivalent of Adam Clayton.
  13. The Alverez Dana Scoop? Oh, the horror.
  14. I used to run a Matrix poweramp, it was fantastic and only went because I was just trying to cut down on the weight of the stuff I was carrying. The GSS is still on the website, €300 for the 600w/4ohm one, the 1kw is €460. Maybe it's just a website glitch. Not familiar with Demeter kit, but the 800D ticks all the boxes really.
  15. I think all I really want is a small/powerful poweramp with just a volume control; all my pre-shaping comes from Tech21 stuff and this always goes into the effects return of whatever amp I'm using (currently a 900w Darkglass A/O head). I'm not particularly fond of the DG A/O tonally, volumewise it's more than adequate.
  16. Anyone using these for bass? [I've edited the title here as we seem to be taking in more suggestions.]
  17. Going a little off-piste here, I put in a retention of title clause into our updated T&C's when I was working in the wristwatch business. We saved literally tens of thousands by pulling unpaid for stock before the administrator/liquidator took the product and sold it at auction for peanuts. Did I get any credit for this? Answers on a postcard.
  18. Early Cheap Trick today. Studio-wise I reckon I'll stop when I've finished Dream Police. Live albums, the 2020 RSD release is up now (Live at The Whiskey, 1977), so I'll include that and Budokan of course.
  19. I didn't know they did strings until about a year ago. There was a promotion here, I bought a set to see if they were any good (yes).
  20. Ooh. Three question marks. Evidence??? I have none. No photos; this was '78/79. Photos were limited to holidays and Christmas, back then. Rest assured though, it's all true. Now if only I'd hung onto that Travis Bean.
  21. Markbass coated strings are a good alternative. They feel lovely, holding up well so far.
