That is a nice looking Flea. I have one with twin Lane Poors and an active/passive switch with a boost option as well. Funky little mother of pearl inlay at the 12th fret of Randy Hope-Taylor (he had it built for a tour he did with Jeff Beck but then sold it afte the tour was finished). These basses really are great to play and the Lane Poors are excellent.
2 Lane Poor MM Pups in 1 bass..... ? That's just greedy !!! Stunning Instrument !!
Noooooooo, you're teasing me. Mate, I'm gonna have a serious think as I may well let my '75 maple Precision go (it's simply not getting used in relation to my '73) and ther's part of me that loves how easy the Flea is to play. By the way, have you tird flats on it, I can't tell you how sweet it sounds Cheers mate, I'll be in touch if I make my mind up re. the Precision. Don't hold the Flea for me though Chris
No never tried Flats on a Flea ! Had 4 Flea Basses, this ones sounds the biggest (the D&G stay big in the context of a live bannd) and plays the best, lowest clean action i've ever experienced, Horrible cliche but it just about plays itself !!
Now that IS the ultimate Flea Bass. Man, that was my dream bass for so long. Mark, how ironic would it be if I bought it from you after all the previous Flea stuff we've been through! I know that I'm settled on Precisions now, and hopefully for good, but I have to say that I have a horrible burning sensation in my pocket at the moment. I always used to think it was really naff when people said "someone buy this and put me out iof my misery", but now I know what they mean. For heaven's sake, someone buy it quick or my new year's resolution is blown Good luck Mark Chris
Hiya Chris, just been playing some RHCP stuff for a couple of hours...... The Fleat Tones just leap out of this bass but it's also so big and ballsy, just roll a bit of botton end on from that 18v Aguilar and it's fat as hell ! Bit of mid and it barks and growls like nothing !! The Lane Poor Pup really is the mutts nuts !!! Really usable range of tones in there....... go-on treat yourself !!! Mark
Whoops, NS2CRFM (not LX).... apologies. I've only ever played the US NS2 and damn good they were as well. Great feel, great sound...
My mate's Kramer Era NS2 is one of the nicest instruments i've ever played ! I'll get it off him when I prize it from his cold dead fingers !!
I found that too - I tried a Marcus Miller (natural) next to a USA 75 reissue (natural, maple with black blocks) and the finish on the frets and binding on the USA model was appalling, especially since it is way more expensive than the Miller! It basically convinced me that Fender Japan is the way to go if I want one of those 70's type jazzes (given I can't afford a custom shop or a Sadowsky UV70).
The Miller bass & Geddy Lee (and I think all the Jap 70's reissues) are not properly bound over the ends of the frets, the USA stuff is bound over the fret ends, after playing for a little while these "rough edges" smooth out. One of the reasons (IMHO) that a good original 70's jazz feels so nice to play is the binding is worn in and the bass just feels lush to play !!

Hiya Chris, good to have you back on board !! come on then....... what were you doing to break the fingers ?
There's quite a bit of price difference, but would (eventually) like a really sexy Fender Jazz. I understand the methodology behind the NOS, but does it actually play/sound much different?
I guess you're refering to the 62 & 75 reissues as opposed to the 64 CS and maybe the 1970 CS ? I've had multiple examples of all 4 and consistency is the main factor The Custom Shop Instruments use better wood stocks and quality is just that bit better. For me the main difference is in the wood, choice selected wood better matured and usually lighter and more resonant. The Relic instruments have a lovely played in feel. This is my milage anyway Hope this helps Mark
I'm going to start one of two new threads: 1) What's the shortest time anyone has held onto a new bass or 2) What's the longest anyone has owned a bass for.
Q1 - I've owned a bass but never had it in my hands and sold it on via a 3rd party - does that count ? I did once own a 69 Precision for a day !! 2 - In my case I owned a Jaydee for a couple of years !!
This is one amazing example of a Custom Shop Jazz. I played it when Birdy owned it and brought it round. Somebody will get a fantastic bass.
Cheers Funky !! It's THE 70's Jazz, 70's vibe with Custom Shop Build Quality ! When I bought this bass I moved from a USA 1975 Reissue and a bloomin good example too, the difference btw the 75 and this bass was not subtle !!! Cheers Mark

Hi Guys, This is the most fantastic bass i've ever owned, and i've owned it twice now so that tells you something... Fact is my stupidly large and impossibly clumsy hands are just better suited to wider necks, i've just bought a Stingray and i'm so much more comfortable on that than I am on the slim fast neck of the Jazz ! I'll get some pics up tomorrow when the light is better.... but for now here's one of me using it live here's a link to the fender site as a starter for 10 http://www.fender.com/customshop/instrumen...rtno=9270000288 Looking for trades / swaps / px on the following as a starting point : ASH Maple Natural Stingray (may consider other finishes but a maple board is a must) Bongo HH Spector NS2 NS4 or Euro LX Status Headed Empathy Open to other suggesions but neck profile of a Stingray / Precison is what i'm after I'd also consider trades / swap on a decent amp (compact / powerfull type - poss Neo ?) The Jazz had a RRP of £2600 but you can't buy one anymore....... I paid £2200 for this a year ago. I do live in the real world and understand the posh bass market is a little depressed which is why I'd like to trade rather than sell at this time. However sale price would be £1300 The Bass is certainly a future classic Ping me a PM with any offers suggestions....... Thanks a lot... Mark
I'll chirp in here as I have owned both. I think in terms of build quality and playability they are very similar although I think the Sadowskys are slightly consistently higher quality but when you get a good CS one you get a good one! They differ in terms of sounds as the Sadowksy doesnt do the passive fender as well as the CS and the CS doesnt do the aggressive cut through as well as the Sadowsky in my opinion. Horses for courses, both cracking basses! Steve
Owned a few of both varieties in my time.... Buy a Decent Fender Jazz and a Sadowsky DI Box ! Live Happily ever after in the best of both worlds ! -
Great Advice Guys Thanks...... Any more feedback most welcome

Hi Guys, I've been gassing for a Ray for a while now, there's been a couple of nice modern Ray's on here for like £650 - £700 while for a pre EB we're talking £1500 + leaving aside the historical significance and investment potential, and thinking from a playability, tone & feel perspective are the Pre EB Ray's that much better ? I know individual instruments from both era's will vary greatly but in general what are your experiences ? Cheers Mark
I was a bit pissed one evening and decided to offer him $800 for it! Then I offered $805. He sent me a nasty email calling me a loser and a "douchebag" He told me that 800 bucks wouldn`t buy the air around this bass so I offered him $850 for the air! I asked him what "douchebag" meant and suggested that it might be someone that tries to sell something for far more than it`s worth!
That's given me my first laugh of the day..... Thanks !

I've been lucky with Dings over the years, however I recall when our Bullmastiff (then a 4 month old puppy) put his teeth into my Jaydee GA24 !!

OK so can they prove it's not a Mark Kendrick 66 Masterbuild they bought for $4000 ? I had one and they are all actually Quarter Sawn necks but the reputation of this seller goes befor him !
