Great stuff! (BUT - I still think some of his 'distressing' is just not done very well - especially all that 'chipping' he does to the body. Genuine old vintage guitars just don't look like that...! But the quality of his guitar building work is obviously very high - so I don't know he doesn't leave it at that rather than spoil them with the dodgy ageing stuff...? Bizarre.)
I can agree with that to a large extent..... Good Job then because mine is build to be 10/10 with no distressing..... It's got the closest you'll get to 60's Nitro finish really thinly applied, you can see the wood grain really clearly through it so it's got a great acoustic "Ring" to it
Just out of interest, is this built from scratch from plans or is it assembled from parts? Damn fine looking bass.
Hi Guys, here's a great insight into how john makes his guitars..... well worth a close look at this http://www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/Building%20a%20BW.html
Why would Carvin have a problem with him making Fender rep's? ...ohhh --- Lovely bass, the stacked knobs are a bit too '50s pick-up for me. You ought to get some soundclips up. What sort of pickups are used?
The Pickups are Wizard..... Forgot to mention guys..... the bass in incredibly light, without doubt the lightest fender bass i've owned (incl 6 Custom Shop Basses) Re Sound Clips .... yeah would be a great idea but i've not got any real recording facilities at home..... I'll ponder a while on that one.... Mark
I'll have to take a look at this luthier. Why do you think he isn't more well known for his high standard of work? Niche market perhaps?
John's happy the way he is..... he's got more than enough demand for his instruments as a 1 man band, there are ofcourse other obvious reasons why he's not looking for mass exposure...... a certain well known USA guitar manufacturer for example ! Those who know..... know...
Wow....more than I was expecting!!
Really ? where would you value the most authentic recreation of a 1960 stack Knob Jazz money can buy? Hand built by a master craftsman to exacting detail with love, care and true passion for what he does as a Bass Player himself and a Fender Enthusiast. If John operated a waiting list it would be years long.... when was the last time you saw a Bravewood advertised 2nd hand ? a 2nd hand USA reissue stack knob would go for £750 and it's built by "numbers" and put together by unskilled assembly workers ! I've has 2 of them and they both had rubber necks that wouldn't set up because the wood used was was a tree a week ago and they don't use graphite in the re-issues to keep them straight..... ofcourse you could have a MIM 60's Reissue for £600 built by Mexican Roadsweepers !! I know which I'd go for..... I hope that adds some perspective to what I'm offering for sale here

I'll take my old Fodera back as a swap if you like !!
If this is anything like as good as my Bravewood fretless, it'll be an amazing bass. Wish I could make you an offer, I desparately want a fretted partner for mine. Good luck with the sale mate. Whoever buys this is a lucky bugger!
Yep ! That's what happens to me...... to the total amusement of my band mates....
You know what I'm gonna say .... ... Price??
At This Stage I'm Open to Sensible Offers ! I have a fair valuation in mind and i'm not interested in ripping anyone off..... it is a pretty rare and sought after instrument, so i'm sure the market here or ebay will find the right valuation for it.... Cheers

Hi Guys, just putting out a feeler for this rare and outstanding instrument..... I'm sure many of you will know the standard of the instruments John makes, the attention to detail in making these instruments puts the fender custom shop (even the masterbuilds) to shame.... John Doesn't take orders for instruments any more so you'll be lucky to get one from him direct and they are the proverbial rocking horse do dah on the 2nd hand market..... I'm selling because I'm committing to 1 instrument for my live work and as it's a tribute situation i've got to go with an authentic instrument..... Also I've just spent a fortune doing up a bass and I still want some Simms Led's to finish it off.... This Bass rings like a piano and resonates like no modern bass i've had..... it's just like a great pre CBS Jazz !! here's the bass on the bravewood site.... it's in the same 10/10 condition as it was built in..... http://www.bravewoodguitars.co.uk/BlondeJtype60.html If anyone wants any further info or photo's then that's no problem, PM me, I'm offering it exclusively to the BassChat community for a week, if it's not sold here it'll go on ebay..... £900 May take Px up to £600 - Hit me with something ! might fancy, Warwick, Spector, Musicman, Status, G&L Lakland...... etc etc Cheers Mark

Did what could have been a complicated 3 bass / Cash "merry go round deal" with Steve..... not a pick of bother ! Great Guy to deal with, real gentleman. Also, when a little problem arose after the deal, he worked with me to sort out the issue when really he had no obligation to do so... don't hesitate to deal with Steve, he's a Top Bloke ! Mark
little bit of advice remove your mobile number from the listing, iv had thing pulled off ebay because of it also, you wont have hundreds of advertisers calling you
Thanks for the advice mate..... Ebay are getting daft about stuff like that arn't they ? I guess I can see why ! Cheers Mark

Hi Guys, In the past 4 years i've used : Eden WT400 210 XLT 115XLT SWR SM900 Golliath III son of Bertha Eden WT800 2 x 410XLT's EBS TD650 2 x Neo 212 Ampeg SVT Classic 610 & 810 Aguilar DB680 & 728 2 x GS410's Ashdown ABM900 ABM410 ABM115 Eden Metro Combo with 115XLT MarkBass SA450 410 & 115 Everyone of the above rigs has had it's strong points and limitations in use...... The Aguilar was possibly the pick of the bunch but volume was stupid ! uncontrolable in smaller venues. The SWR was possibly the biggest let down. The Ashdown was without doubt the biggest surprise, Hell of a Rock tone, massive sound and our FOH engineer loved it..... I admit it i'm a Bass Snob and I couldn't live with an Ashdown !! I now use a Gallien Krueger RB1001 with a pair of RBH 210's and it's the best overall rig i've had, so tight and articulate with masses of headroom I can't think of a single downside, can't believe it's solid state and (relatively) a cheap rig !
