If money is (somewhat) not a factor, check out Elrick basses. Obviously the custom stuff is pretty expensive, but the Standard (Czech built) models can be picked up well-priced and they are very light for what they are generally. Usually around 8 - 8.5lbs

I've pulled the trigger on TRBboy's 8.1lb Sandberg Classic Booster 5...it was to good to let go.

  6. Yeah we play this, good fun bass line 'Could you be loved', is another good one.
  7. Will listen to sensible offers 😊
  8. Yup! That sure is yummy.
  9. My second ever gig back in the 90’s at a half decent venue. I was a newbie bass player on L plates, fingers were raw having dreamt on being the next Louis Johnson - although in reality I could not slap for shizzle. I was aware of my very sore blistered fingers so on another bassists recommendation I bought some superglue to put over the blisters...anyhow, long story short-nipped to the loos between sets and squeezed the cheapy glue and the top shoots off the glue and all over my fingers and hand....to make it worse I reached for toilet tissue to wipe it off...it was a very difficult and memorable second set.
  10. Yes man, digging them
  11. I should really get around to contributing to this thread being a bit of a reggaemon but i have been running on a Jamaican time frame, 😂....better irie than never My old reggae covers band has recently reformed, new singer (female), new horns (forgot how loud trombonists are). Very early days, 4 rehearsals so far and around 10 tunes......oddly mostly ska at this stage. I've played various reggae esq music between 2008-2015 from covers of the usual classics and also not so well known, a bit of 50/60's trad ska with a jazz flavour, bit of two tone ska depping for Too hot, heavy loud UK Roots dub being the live backing band for our friend Daddy Teacha who's worked with Vibronics, Iration Steppas, and Alpha & Omega among many, and also providing billions of classic riddims for our Jamaican friend 'Goldman' and his live Tiger style sets...20 seconds of a riddim, 'pull upppppppp'.... next riddim followed by Sleng Teng for two hours (ad nauseum).....long set list with songs lasting the average length of a Napalm death song! Then had 4 years off doing soul/funktion band stuff and a bit of grunge rock to play a bit of my youth.....but now back to the vibe i love ......the sweet reggae.....here is a nice tune we're nicking for the set, we'll do a version of a version of a version...simple B line but the sum of the parts are very nice:
  12. I think we should demand a 20% discount for verified BC users to buy from GAK in the future 😂
  13. Just seen GAK has some of the cheaper headless range in stock, anyone pulled the trigger? Still very keen to get more factual information on the weight of these headless beasties.
  14. Cut & paste from my FB: First concert - Black Sabbath (Wolverhampton aged 14, Dio) Last concert - Snarky Puppy (bloody marvelous) Best concert - Gong, Bootsy, JTQ, Snarky, Herbie Hancock, Roni Size, Corduroy, Parliament/Funkadelic, Gil Scott Heron, Orbital (Glastonbury after consuming a bad aspirin), Culture, Wailers, Levellers acoustic, Dreadzone (Endorset), EZ Star All Stars, Skatalites, Massive Attack, Abyssinians, and many I’ve forgot! Worst concert - Roger Taylor...love Queen but I fell asleep to Rogers solo stuff Loudest concert - Vibronics (One love reggae festival....beer glasses moved of their own accord due to earthquake like bass resonance) & Prodigy (Phoenix festival 96) Seen the most - Gong, Dreadzone or Ozric Tentacles. Most surprising - Britney Spears (Birmingham NEC...was with a hedonistic press team from the Glaswegian Record...don’t ask!) Next concert - Cory Wong (Vulfpeck solo project) Wish I would have seen - Bob Marley, Hendrix, Kate’s Bush or Lennon.
  15. Absolutely agree, and with the John East this sounds like a bass 6 x this price.
  16. If it had been a 5 string I would of been cooking the wife dinner 😂
  17. Higher end 'Cort GB5 Custom' in great condition, low action, 34" scale, B is super tight and sounds huge, usual minor marks top of headstock. Comes with Cort gig bag and can be well boxed for transportation if required. New strings about to be fitted. Really is a fantastic bass which i ended up keeping over 2 x Laklands, Stingray 5 and a higher end Yamaha bass - I can't imagine a better 5 string for this price. This bass had a John East Uni pre amp fitted which improved the overall tone tenfold. It can also be switched between Active & Passive with a very handy passive tone. The extra dip switches puts the Seymour Duncan pickups in parallel with each other and the other switches between active/passive. Specs from the t'interweb: . BODY: Swamp Ash with Spalted Maple Top · •NECK: Canadian Hard Maple · •FRETBOARD: Rosewood, 15 3/4" Radius (400mm) · •FRETS: 22 / Large (2.7mm) · •SCALE: 34" (864mm) · •INLAY: Rectangular White Pearl · •TUNERS: Hipshot lic. · •BRIDGE: EB12(5) · •PICKUPS: Seymour Duncan SJ5-3N & SMB-5D •ELECTRONICS: Upgraded to John East Uni All in all a fantastic bass for the money that I will miss dearly but I need something lighter. Bargain - now £375 (Have a good box for packing) or collection from Plymouth. May consider trades up or down for a 5 string bass strictly under 8.5lbs in weight. This one weighs in a exactly 10.2lbs. Weird camera angle shot (kind of makes the bass look twisted .....) £375
  18. So after hours of exposing my quandary to she who has scales beneath her skin, she has taken pity and give the royal go ahead to take a punt on a Sire V3. I’ve asked Andertons if they could send me their lightest, doubt they will but thought I’d ask. If it’s too heavy I’ll simply send it back. Should be here next week...went for the wine coloured mahogany one😉-fingers crossed 🤞
  19. Someone stole my Carlsboro back in the mid 90,s ....one the nicest gestures in my whole bass career!
  20. Wowsers, they’re not cheap...but they do come in cheaper than the new headless Ibanez’s I like...and I don’t even know if the Ibanez’s are going to be lightweight.
  21. Thanks, I did contemplate them - maybe a good choice.
