1. If your looking for a passive jazz then Lakland JO5 with Lindy Fralins every time! Or the DJ5, but the JO has a slightly bigger body and just feels perfect.
  2.
Mark clearly knows what he is doing and has lots of genuine vintage Fenders in his possession to refer to so Id recommend him to anyone wanting an excellent quality relic bass.
+1

  4.
RIP John Holt. Maybe not my favourite artist, but undeniably a serious force in the genre, and king of the Reggae cover version. We played the One Love festival this year, and stuck around to see his headline slot, where he collapsed onstage :-(
A legend and a sad loss, R.I.P. Mr Holt ..will always love this tune, as does my 4yr old daughter: http://www.youtube....h?v=9VcdhKYWKQY

  12. Genz Benz Contour!!! (I could be persuaded to sell mine)
  13. My functions band, based in Plymouth have done well the last two years between Devon & Cornwall, gig most weekends..some weddings, functions, good pubs and some clubs in South Devon. Also usually do a few festi's with some friends who enjoy reggae music, some often weird but mostly wonderful little festivals...there's certainly lots of festivals. Definitely nothing cutting edge musically that I've came across though from these parts...but a great part of the country to innovate; i moved from Shropshire 12 years ago and have never regretted any of it
  14. Well, in my recent thread regarding feedback and newbies questions i ended up on the hunt for a magnetic pickup to tackle the feedback woes on my Gear for music DB. In my search I came across an add on Gumtree a week a go that i thought was to good to be true, a Schaller 411 mag pick up which i was after, a decent DB stand which i was also after, a soft case which i was sort of after...oh and it was only attached to Andreas Zeller Double bass..... all for £600 smackers! The bass had also been set up by a top professional North Devon Luther. So i contacted said seller, put deposit down, and collected today. Now the bass is 39" scale so just over 1/2 size but ideal for my little pinkies, it has D'addrio Helicores fitted....not sure if these are good or bad???The guy even chucked in a DB bass mute, bow and a book on scales/arpeggios etc - lovely chap. I've been trying to play it all afternoon but had kids and friends kids over..meh,.. so it never happened! So got it out about 2 hours ago and it's superb...just got to learn how to play now...tips appreciated Sooooo happy My 1/2 G4M DB will be up for sale very soon (good beginners bass!) Lovely Schaller, sounds very impressive actually...still a bit of woody tone there.

  16.
Wow, that's a true bargain right there, then! Good score for Raslee.
Cheers man, been after a light 2x15" for a while so it fits the bill and will be paired with Markbass tube 800

SOLD . So, the bass - i'm going to let someone else enjoy this bass as i barely use it - it's too good to collect dust in my man cave. It's in great condition, odd ding but nothing unusual, crackly mid pot but functions great. Awesome low B string with no floppiness, preamp is 18V and is excellent, very versatile. This is a surprisingly good 5 string bass for the money!!! Googled blurb: The Ibanez BTB555 5-String Bass Guitar, Maple/Mahogany Body, 5-piece Maple/Walnut Neck, Ibanez Pickups, 3-band EQ, Natural Finish. An electrifying, high quality 5-String bass with rich, clean and versatile tones. The Ibanez BTB555 is built with all the top shelf materials, delivering rich, electrifying tones. The BTB555 takes the traditional formula of powerful tones produced by a massive body and substantial neck and then adds an even longer 35 inch scale neck, the right mix of select woods and high-tech appointments. The BTB555 has a unique off-center line neck shape, which follows the natural path of the thumb as it moves up the neck, making upper fretwork as easy as playing the lower frets. The 35 inch neck scale provides superior articulation with no "flopping" and solid sustain (great low . A 5-piece maple and walnut neck, maple top and back plus mahogany body, 18-volt active Vari-Mid preamp, Ibanez pickups and a Monorail 2 (MR-II) bridge deliver the rich tones without interference from other strings. The main features of the Ibanez BTB555 include: An electrifying, high quality 5-String bass with rich, clean and versatile tones 35 inch neck scale Hi-tech NeutrikR locking jacks offer secure and stable connection 18-volt circuitry offers more headroom 5 piece BTB5 Maple/Walnut Neck Maple Top And Back Mahogany body 24 Medium frets MR-2 bridge (19mm string spacing) Ibanez Neck Pickup Ibanez MK1 Bridge Pickup Vari-Mid IIIB 3-band eq (18v) Chrome Hardware Rosewood Fingerboard with Abalone dot inlays Pics available on request, here's a stock pic for now:
  19. In my research getting to this point i had tried an Aguilar TH500 which was ok sounding, good mid sweep control but it didn't have a wow factor for me...although someone put a thread up about it not being a slapper's choice, i thought it sounded great for slap. Tried an Eden WTX, was ok but not the thick defined sound that i remembered Eden's to have like the WT550's, was a bit lack luster. Tried the notorious Ampeg PF500, brilliant sound, and nearly bought this but the reliability stories left me a bit too hesitant. Also tried an LM3, enjoyed this and using the filters again (have past owned an LM2) and this was the deciding factor to go with Markbass again. Would have liked to try a GK Fusion but none around here.
  20.
Congrats man When you say the tube sounded less sterile, did it make the sound warmer?
Cheers dude, Yeah perhaps a little warmer, certainly not Genz Streamliner or Orange Terror bass territory but it added a little subtle warmth over the full solid state setting. In the solid state setting is the typical LM super clean sound, what i would consider hifi. Interestingly i hear the difference more when trying a reggae dub sound, i.e. filters full on, bass up and high's down...the tube made it fat wooly sounding and the solid state made it fat and defined...i liked both.
  21.
Congrats Lee, they are one that was on my wish list. The only thing that concerned me was I read somewhere (so I DON'T KNOW it to be true) that all Markbass Tube amps need to be sent off to have tubes replaced. IE, user can not replace them because they are soldered or something? Would be great if an owner could say this is cobblers. Then I could put one back on my thought list. Enjoy the amp, bet it's fab.
Cheers karl, Yeah i read similar regarding the tubes. But thinking about it I've never had a tube ditch out on me yet although it would have been nice to have the flexibility to change tubes should one wish to do so. I've given it a thrashing this afternoon and loved it; i've missed those VLE/VPF filters, helps me find a sound quickly and both full on for instant reggae vibes. A lot of people say you can't hear the difference between the solid state and tube setting, well i'm deaf and i could here the tube had a less sterile sound although admittedly it is subtle. Despite initially looking at 500W amps I eventually opted for the 800W to have the headroom, and a back up to my Carvin BX1500 if i use it with the reggae crew, but i'm mostly aiming to use the MB with my functions band - soul/funky stuff. Now to decide what cab, thinking either an MB NY 12" or 15"
  22. Thought it best I bought this thread to a conclusion...I went for a Markbass Tube 800 in the end, yet to try it out in anger but first impressions are great
  23.
Here's my '62 P Bass in black and very nice it is too. Sorry for the poor quality IPhone pics but haven't had time to photograph it properly. I had the same problem as "Three" in that the bridge saddles were so "reliced" they had frozen up and couldn't be adjusted at all so I replaced with some quality brass units from Ebay for about a tenner! It's got quite a chunky neck and I currently have Roto 45-105 Jazz Flats on it nd it sounds amazing, especially with all the tone rolled off! The second shot shows the addition of bridge/pickup covers. I think this really sets the bass off beautifully !
That's stunning, i like
