Any thoughts or recommendations for a 500W (ish) micro amps out there?
As you know it is necessary to cut the bass somewhat on the Streamliner - it is naturally hefty - which is unusual, but it isn't a big deal. Also the mids can be cut or boosted adequately at three preset frequences, at least for my needs; but the Fusion is much more flexible mid-wise and you would be hard-pressed to find a setting where you would not be happy with the mids. The Fusion is no slouch on bass front either - the pre valves run at high voltage as the Streamliner's do and make the amp very thick and warm-sounding. Yet you can EQ in a 'hi-fi' sound if that's what you want. I swapped my Fusion for the Streamliner as I was intrigued to see what it was like - and I do like it a lot, it suits my current band well. However, it is not as portable and will not so easily fit in to a gig bag as the Fusion does. The SL valves are vertical making the case taller - the Fusion valves are fitted horizontally making it a 1U size. It boils down to purpose, format choice and personal preference. Both amps are excellent and I'd be happy to use either - ideally I'd like to have both.
Very intrigued by the Fusion.....however they don't come in the for sale section very often by the looks of it.,,,may have to save some more pennies. -

I see the Fusion has 3 tubes like the Genz Streamliner; Discreet i see you have a Streamliner - any thoughts between the two? I recently had a Streamliner and didn't really get on with it in my functions band, found i was always fiddling to get it less bassy and more mids, but equally it was great for the reggae band i play with also - however i chose to keep my Carvin over the Streamliner mostly due to the versatility of the Carvin. Now, I'm mostly looking for something small and easily portable and perhaps with a bit of warmth as both my Carvin head & current Genz Combo are very clean sounding - i have really enjoyed the Orange Terror in the past but obviously that is too big for the gig bag. Candidates i briefly considered are Eden WTX500, Markbass LM2/3 (are they small enough?), GK MB/fusion, Genz shuttle maybe although something different would be cool, Possibly the EA micro thingy...any others??? -
I'm thinking (GASING) of looking into a microhead that will 'fit in my gig bag' for jam nights, small rehearsals etc but also a back up for larger gigs if ever necessary. I have read the other relevant recent threads RE: Markbass Backline 250 & GK's MB200 etc (which i nearly pulled the trigger on) but i'm wondering are there any other light micro heads with a bit more power out there that will give me around 250/300W at 8 ohms and perhaps 500 ish at 4ohms. Thanks.
I didn't realise the heads were detachable? Well I'll be damned, so they are :-)
Ditto, this post got me thinking and then i came across a Talkbass thread that said the amps have a lid on...i now have mine out and it does have a top lid on - awesome!!!...just need a decent bag for it to fit in. To the OP, I did consider your cab combo case that's for sale here as i have the 2x10" but but because of the shape of the cabs it wouldn't be neatly stackable. So I'm looking for the Contour ext.speaker if anyone should have one. Anyhow have another bump and GLWTS. -
Buffalo Soldier notation anyone & Reggae advice.
Raslee replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in General Discussion
If you PM me your email I can probably scan the dots and email. Good tip - tone mostly or all off to taste, play close to neck for fatter tone, neck pick up if more than one and you could also try playing with your thumb to see if that works best. Buffalo Soldier is a good fun song to play, Three little birds is a doddle too -
The red P isn't there anymore
I was almost going to have that one
Devon, I believe.
Correct, Mark is indeed a fellow Devonian. My Limelight P bass is 8.5lbs also. Karlfer, your green/tort jazz is simply stunning...I love it. Nice weight too as my 74 jazz (mostly retired for the occasional reggae gig) is nearly 12lbs. My Limelight P has become my goto bass for my functions band...now sporting a Detuner and a Wizard trad pick up.
We demand a thread. Getting close to possibly somebody starting a Limelight Porn thread?

Yes you should. Pics, or it didn't happen!
Yes, yes, yes...i'm on it soon. Too busy playing the darn thing the for the longy's posts...in between job applications, babies meh meh meh xxx ...and yes the pickguard is pizza:

Just got in from a strange Monday night wedding gig...bizarre on a school night. Anyhow second time this weekend my 70's Limelight P has been out and I absolutely love it, changed the pick up though to a wizard trad, the original was ok but I just think the wizard trad has the edge a bit. Anyhow... I love my Limelight and should do a NBD although I've had it for around a month or so ...can't believe I'm enjoying a Precision as well...ahem

+1 for Tom Anfield, legendary! Also I was quite impressed with Rich in Sound Unlimited in Plymouth.
Very busy summer - normally two weddings a weekend, with the occasional Thursday pub gig. Loving it - and the cash!
Same boat! I'm actually quite liking the functions/wedding scene...often get well fed, looked after and decent pay for playing bass all over Devon/Cornwall...what's not to like

SOLD: I got this little wonderful combo off here recently and it really surprised me what a great, and light, combo it is. It stood up really well with volume left in a 7 piece soul outfit in the two gigs i have done with it. However I've since acquired a Genz combo and don't really need two similar combo's...although i can happily live with the TC if it doesn't sell/trade. Whilst both the Genz & TC sound great I'm keeping the Genz as its louder and i can get 500W which is useful for the bigger gigs. So this amp is a BG250 115 Mark1, perfect condition with RockSolid cover. Plays well, loud and plenty of tone prints ready to be uploaded which is a feature i quite liked. The original for sale thread and pictures are here: http://basschat.co.u...81#entry2496281 I'd really welcome trades on this, in particular a Genz Benz Contour extension cab - either the 15" or 2x10" , or a small light amp head 200W plus, or a Genz Focus 1x12" cab, or a Lindy Fralin Precision pick up or £200 The combo is located in Devon, happy to send via courier etc.

Top notch as always. Paul is a pure credit to basschat, buyers sellers will have no probs with this guy

Could be up for this too if I'm not gigging

Orange sorted my out of warranty OTB, mine was also a 2010. It was only a loose large capacitor, however Orange put the newer circuit boards in which also sorted out the hot DI. Top customer service and didn't cost a penny.
This. If you don't like the number, why are you playing it. If it bores you, try to put your stamp on it. If you can't, chuck it out.
Thinking about the weddings scene in particular, sadly sometimes we don't have the luxury on the choice of music! Typically I am either out voted by the majority in the band if challenging a number I don't like, or it's been requested by punters as a wedding first dance (some being so bad that I have erased from my mind), or it's on the set list when depping at short notice for other bands... I agree though that a little self signature is always a bit more gratifying on a tedious track. But heck if the monies right I'll play Justin Beaner or whatever his name is note for note
-
I find 'Higher & Higher' tedious...particularly as i was requested to put in less fills ...'Hit the Road Jack' is a bit ploddy too, great tune though.

Met with Dave at a service station on the M5, we battled the slow tourist traffic from both our directions but eventually met up in good time. Top fella, and great communications throughout, another credit to basschat - buyers/sellers can deal with confidence and of course thanks for the Genz Dave
Don't take this wrong way but I liked the tort guard mark gave you more than the spitfire one, so I think I'm gonna stick with mine. I'm sure the bank manager will thank me for that decision too!
I'm still waiting on my tort plate from Mark, he did email to say there is a slight delay. I've gigged my P twice now and have been very happy indeed although at last nights gig I thought the E string appeared a little bit weaker than the others. However a quick string change and perhaps raise the pick up slightly may sort that out; tonight's wedding gig will be the acid test. I'm waiting for the bass to be complete before I do a RNBD (recent), plus it will have had several gigs under its belt..but so far I'm very, very impressed with my Limelight P, in fact I'm quite surprised I'm liking the P as much as I do...certainly easier on my back than my nearly 12lb J bass
