Don't take this wrong way but I liked the tort guard mark gave you more than the spitfire one, so I think I'm gonna stick with mine. I'm sure the bank manager will thank me for that decision too!
I'm still waiting on my tort plate from Mark, he did email to say there is a slight delay. I've gigged my P twice now and have been very happy indeed although at last nights gig I thought the E string appeared a little bit weaker than the others. However a quick string change and perhaps raise the pick up slightly may sort that out; tonight's wedding gig will be the acid test. I'm waiting for the bass to be complete before I do a RNBD (recent), plus it will have had several gigs under its belt..but so far I'm very, very impressed with my Limelight P, in fact I'm quite surprised I'm liking the P as much as I do...certainly easier on my back than my nearly 12lb J bass
Thank you. Now slightly obsessed with this band already. The Bear Creek 2011 gig on YouTube is excellent.
My pleasure, I'm working my way through their back catalogue and loving them

Great album...Skunk Funk in my bones

Haha, was funny reading this as i thought I can effectively contribute!!! I have past owned a WT550, only a few days ago sold my Genz Streamliner 900 in favour of keeping my Carvin BX1500....not tried the Carvin B series however - i think i remember reading the B2000 was a warmer sounding amp. All three amps mentioned are fantastic amps IMO. Eden, brilliant amp, warm sounding, goes to 2ohms, probably the heaviest...fantastic tones, paramentric is great,, i mostly played reggae when i owned the Eden...superb amp 9/10. I wouldn't swap my Carvin for an Eden WT550 but i preferred this amp over the Genz. Genz, agree will Molan about the wooly vibe, i liked it a lot but i could never get a tone i really liked for my soul band, yet it was great in my reggae band. I found i struggled to get the mids right when gigging and was forever fiddling. That said it is a great amp, well built and looks fantastic - i feel i preferred it over the Orange terror bass that i had beforehand but that was mostly due to having more eq flexibility by contrast. 8/10 Carvin BX1500, far from the other two in terms of vintage sounding...i would say super clean, perhaps entertaining this 'hifi' sound people on here mention. But with the eq i find that i can pretty much get a tone I like for anything...it is soooo flexible housing two amps, can mix cabs, 1.5k bridged - loads of headroom, does 2 ohms, parametric eq, bi amping, less than 11lbs weight and 2U for your rack. It doesn't really do the vintage thing but i'd use my Zoom B3 in future to get some warmth. I did use an Ampeg pre into the Carvin which made for a great set up and gave the sound that more vintage vibe. Anyhow, recently I decided to keep the Carvin and easily a 9/10...it'd get 10 if the 12AX7 tube actually did something...maybe i'll change it one day to see if it has any effect.

Yes fantastic basses, I have the P bass and previously owned the bass Pinball is referring too. A lot of bass for the money. I treated my P to a BassDoc tort guard and changed the pick up for an SD one, the stock pick up was really good but I prefer the SD for a more vintage sound. The P's have jazz width necks too. So yeah I highly rate Farida's and mine has been with me for a few months now...which is a miracle in my books

Cheers chaps - feeling the Limelight lurvvve, I've managed to put it down now. Really liking the P vibe again, although i think I'll always be a jazzman at heart...but this will certainly be my funky/soul bass for some time me thinks...loving the sound with the tone slightly rolled off; I do wonder what pick ups are used in these basses. The white scratchplate is growing on me, liking the aged look of it, although i do love the tort/creamy off white combo...was Mark's tort any good or pizza? i see one of you had sent off for another tort right ??? I'll probably do a belated NBD when i get the tort - it'll sound better . Reet, might have another quiet little tinkle whilst baby is asleep

Soooo...living in Devon i went to see my good friend Mark (aka Classic & Cool Guitars) today....er...came back with something, a sister for my 74Jazz: http://www.classicandcoolguitars.co.uk/basses/limelight00111pbass.htm Anyhow think i'm in the club . Marks going to send me a tort plate in the post though - (I love the look of your P Skej21), he didn't have one at the time. So, yup...pretty amazing aren't they, so happy with the weight too - i have to many very heavy basses!!!. I'd write a lot more but i need a P-Funk...

I've played 20 or so typical Wailers tunes, never past the 12th fret, unless a freaky fill, but often been around the 10th (Could you be loved)...guess it depends on how you play stuff, choice of notes etc. Actually come to think of it Familyman does the occasional fill past the 12th live, particularly on the Babylon by bus album. Flabba Holt is a great reggae bass player too
I like all three, much more interesting than the usual, although I am a sucker for the '60s pastels. Daphne blue and tort have been on my bucket list for some time.
+1 to this!
I think many musicians don't realise that music is cultural. You have to grow up in, or at least immerse yourself in, the cultural aspects of the music you want to play, be that Latin, Middle Eastern, Indian, African, Asian, Caribbean or whatever. Just listening to a bit of the music and expecting to be able to execute its cultural nuances is an almost guaranteed fail.
+1 to this - develop a bit of cultural confidence. Reggae - Spot the muso's in Rockers, check out some Jamaican film classics, get down to the Sunsplash, demand goat & not mutton (far more tasty meat) and love your Ackee & saltfish...and of course listen to Culture - the best Jamaican band ever...haha IMO . I've been fortunate over the years to be part of a local reggae collective and backed a few Jamaican/African vocalists with various bands. It always amazes me that some musicians i play with will comment "the vocalist is singing out of time", "or using the wrong lyrics etc"......far from it usually as when I've observed the same vocalists jamming with their fellow Jamaican friends it is always pretty much perfect reggae...even when it sounds 'out of time' - Jah works in mysterious ways as they say I've often found guitards and particularly brass players the hardest to nail reggae. Often, and with a few exceptions of course, the horns are usually right on it and often on the beat. With regards to the OP, check out some Familyman in Dub - The Cobra style!!! , and his nephew on the drums (up and coming).
Lovely. I'd just like to say for the record that there is nothing whatsoever wrong with Limelight tort guards, and Mark does a really excellent relic job on them - it's just that Spitfire guards are so damn luscious, groovy, 3D and extremely desirable! Ohh. Mine's just been despatched from California and is winging it's way to discreet towers as I type...
That tort looks yummy, especially on a sonic blue bass . I still keeping looking at that Red P on Marks site....must resist the looming GAS.
He's a really creative player and a great example of what you can do with just a few notes in interesting places.
He keeps it spriitual too when he's dubbing down with his few notes..(Natural mystic, Heathen etc)...Familyman is a big inspiration to me and thoroughly lovely down to earth chap too.
