So I finally go on a lifetime dream family holiday very soon, a California dreaming road trip - a holiday that has witnessed the selling of many of my cherished bass pieces over the last 12 months to help fund...however I can confess to being a bit naughty on some occasions and bought other bassy bits too - 12 months is indeed a long time (Lightweight amps & speakers mainly). But overall i made a good contribution to the holiday funds with sales on here, local etc and feel I've done my bit. Fast forward to the here and now, and after today's post full on energetic 90 minute Ska gig back pain from last nights festival party, Mrs Raslee gives me the green light to buy a ultra lightweight bass....something I've been considering for a while with age, increasing bad back and physique, and more gigs coming in with the differing bands i currently play with. Last night i gigged my Precision bitsa that weighs in bang on 8lb which is my lightest 4 string bass, I also gig a Stingray Special at 8.6lbs (main bass), and a Cort Jazz at 9.1 lbs which i had the worst back ache gigging that one two weeks ago....sounded great though with upgraded EMG's! I'm sorted on the 5 string lightweight front with a 7.4 lb Cricket bat but i reserve that for my reggae band for when we get together. A few months back i had been seriously thinking about an eventual ultra lightweight 4 string purchase along the lines of the Sandberg SL's, but a recent add for a Spector RST on bass Bro's has peaked my interests at just over 6lbs in weight. However i think i'd prefer a P/J configuration to the RST's humbuckers but those Aguilar's on the RST do sound great from the reviews i've read/heard. I also have to admit i am getting a bit of Spector GAS, more so as one of my bands is thinking about a Blondie tribute and well, a nod to Leigh Fox perhaps, and it would be something different to my current holy trinity of P/MM/J. I also like the looks of the purple NS 2 Pulse model....hoping to try one on my holidays when in L.A. Any thoughts on lightweight basses, Spector, Sandbergs SL's...others etc etc...I will of course spend some monies on the Gym too...one day

Quick Q, is the RST 4 string the lightest Spector? I see Bass Bros have one at 6.4lbs and that weight is very appealing. Thing is i think i prefer the P/J configuration...i'm likely to be shopping for something ideally under 7.5lbs over the coming weeks post holidays.

I bought the Pure having previously owned 2x10 travellers in the past. I really like the travellers but have found the Pure has something magical about it, or at least it did the other day rehearsing some power trio classic rock tunes with some friends. With my Elf it was brilliant, really clear, warm and well defined low end but with mid cutting through nicely too…I personally loved it, and how well it cut through the mix and so loud and light. Of course it may just be the honeymoon period but I smiled a lot more than I ever did with the Travellers…but then I didn’t have the Elf back then either.

Hmmm,

Would love to but I have little time currently so would rather purchase if that was an option.

I had that similar experience…my wife didn’t approve though.

Played an ‘interesting’ Dog & Duck equivalent in Dawlish, Devon last night for a town pub festival thang. First outing for my BF cab, sounded tremendous, as did my bitsa P 🤩

I've just bought the MB58R 2x10 Pure, less than 10Kg, pure back pain winner!. Went for the 4 ohm too and paired with my Elf it's trouser flapping!

Now surplus due to the arrival of a single cab solution (Markbass Pure 2x10"). These have been the living room rig sitting discretely in the corner and have served me well for those YouTube learning moments. I did used to gig one briefly with an acoustic band and it sounded fantastic with both an Elf and the BAM200 micro amps, quality loud sound and joyously light. Makes for a great stacked lightweight rig. Rated at 200W each, so 400W together and they are 8 ohms each. Specs here: BC208 Both for £220, or £120 each collected from Plymouth or happy to discuss courier options at cost.

Here we have 3 maple necks up for grabs: 1) Squier Sonic Precision bass Neck, completely new and unused as of yesterday - a nice jazz 38mm width. I only bought the Squier bass for the lighweight body and specific colour to go with a USA neck I already had but i was pleasantly shocked on what a great bass it was as stock and the neck is truly is stunning. I did monetarily think about keeping for another project but I should offer it out as i have far too many 'project' basses on the go. I also have the electrics, pickup from the Squier bass if anyone is interested - the pickups and tone range were actually pretty impressive? Anyhow £85 posted for the brand new neck. 2) Northwest Guitars Precision - has a Fender decal on, i have a spare decal if also wanted. Has Wilkinson tuners, heal truss which is fine - tuners are a little stiff but function fine - £85 Posted £) OLP Stingray Neck, a bit battered (relic 😂), but functions absolutely fine - i ended up preferring SUB sterling neck for a previous Ray project, previous owner fitted stingray decals £35 posted. Will knock £5 if collected in Plymouth:

So I did exactly the same, bought the California blue P, fitted a EMG Geezer B and a USA P neck that I had. But @Muzz is absolutely right, the original maple jazz width Squier neck is sublime but I will be selling mine (brand new if any interest here 😉😂). Anyhow I’m chuffed to bits with my P project. Rehearsed it tonight and it was the dogs dangling bits and best of all weighs 7.9lbs and no neck dive. Before: After
