Safer in room than an unattended vehicle. Car big enough to keep them out of sight ? Take photograph of them in the room. If practicable lock them to something large eg desk / table.

The anti-static ground connection as used in electronic production environments usually has a high impedance resistor in line (eg 1 Meg Ohm) to avoid high currents but still negate charge build up.
-
In that sense nothing is instant. There is always a finite propagation time.

Passive bass, bridge properly grounded, no hum... but a click

The more complete the shielding the more effective it is. But how good is good enough is subjective. -
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the condition of these items 😆 Salvage: Bare Body & Neck from Westone Spectrum ST Bass. Body is in a bit of a state - finish is cloudy / dents / looks like someone tried to remove the finish by heat then gave up. Neck is better but still very rough - finish cloudy / marks / dents etc. Fretting is actually still good in terms of fret ends and fitting but frets well worn as you might expect. VERY MUCH "SPARES OR REPAIR" See Pics. I'm thinking £25 each singly or both for £45. Collection from Brighton. Possible delivery in some of Sussex. Please ask if interested. Could post but thinking cost would be out of proportion. Ask if interested. Offers welcome if you think overpriced.

Yes. It happens mainly when the "plastic" pickguard has become "shiny" through friction from playing contact . Also noticed when touching / brushing (isolated) pickguard screws. The conductive tape / grounding method works. For a quick temporary fix try wiping pickguard with anti-static wipes rg Tumble Dryer sheets. For a permanent fix - non-pickguard instruments 🤣

The pickguard effect is a thing. Esp when material is worn / shiny. Or you may be charging up yourself ? Patent leather shoes ? Nyion Carpet ? Shiny floors ? etc ...

I didn't realise it was an acoustic tbh makes more sense to me now.

My take: If you want a fretless then buy a fretless bass or a fretless neck to substitute. I'll get my coat...😳

Cort Bass with stuck truss rod / spoke wheel

So now would be the time to break out the WD40 or similar. Give it time to penetrate then see how it goes. If no joy then maybe some graphite loaded lubricant like the stuff recommended for high security door locks. Again allow time to penetrate. Is it a bolt on neck ? -
No. I read your post. I quoted selectively to focus on the basic error in your thinking. Yes - you may get a signal from knocking an unstrung bass. That is due to some microphonic response. Most likely ime from the magnetic pickup. If potting maintained the relative geometries perfectly then there would be no such signal produced. That's how this magnetic induction stuff works. But, of course, nothing is 100% perfect. There are other possible sources of microphonics here - capacitor vibration and even wire movement. But this is all tiny signal stuff.
-
The vibrational characteristic changes over time. Due to both a) build up of 'crud' esp between windings on a round wound string. Hence cleaning techniques can restore a brighter sound. b) strings 'age' and lose their 'true' response eg it becomes impossible to intimate them reasonably. These changes are reflected in the magnetic field.

There is no defence for the Three Point Bridge M'Lud 🤣

It's great. And the processed vocal bit is the best bit 🙂

Depends on the individual obviously. But I do think heavier gauge strings are easier with a bit more spacing. fwiw I'm not really a fan of wide string spacings in general eh prefer 19mm Vs 20mm @ bridge. It may work out better as a baritone.

I love the idea and look of the Bass VI and copies of but I can't see the tight string spacing at the nut with beefy strings working for me. Maybe just as well as have run out of bass space 🤣
