Modified Actice Wesley Monarch 4 String-NOW SOLD
rmorris replied to falcodub's topic in Basses For Sale
Just seen these are 119 new, however this one has been modified with better pick ups and a set up so am hoping that my price isn't too ambitious! Open to offers but will drop it already to £100 posted in light of the fact that these are cheap new
It'd be a good idea to say what the replacement pickups are. Good Luck. -

Squashiest Compressors - No transparent rubbish!!!
rmorris replied to fretmeister's topic in Effects
Does it have to be a footpedal type ? The Alesis NanoCompressor ( Third Rack format / not made now but cheap when on ebay etc ) has plenty of parameters to get what you want. In addition to the Threshold / Attack / Ratio / Release knobs you get a choice of Hard / Soft knee and Peak / RMS metering plus decent LED metering. Stereo (linked) if you want it or just use left channel for mono + Sidechain input if you want to get fancy :-) -
Unused ( I used the other strings for a 4 string ). SAE or collect in Brighton or Crawley.

I guess no interest in these so withdrawn.

2 x Jeff Berlin 'Enhanced CDs' from Bass Player mag circa 97 / 98 plus 'Bass Instincts' CD from same mag. note that I can hear the audio on these but I think the video may not work under XP/Vista etc. It all sounds like US muso nonsense to me but let me know if you want them as seems a waste to send to landfill :-( SAE+postage or collect in Brighton or Crawley.
Yes. My point was that gear in general is going surface mount (for me that means unrepairable) so I may as well go for lightweight class D/SMPS.
hi. But I don't see why 'Surface Mount' needs to be seen as 'unrepairable' Yes - some slightly different techniques are required but in some ways it's easier than conventional 'thru hole' fabrication. Although it does depend on the pcb quality to a degree.
Hi just as an addition I use Caig's Deoxit D5 as recommended in sound on sound mag. It's a bit pricey but has saved no end of pots other cleaners couldn't. They recommend it because unlike other cleaners it leave no residue (the residue can cause dust to stick make the problem return) It certainly did cure the same prob on my ashdown and its still good 2 years later.
+1 - yeah def have a look at the Caig DeOxit stuff - and look at the range for general cleaning too - connectors etc. Basically - if it's grease / oil problems - isopropyl alcohol ; Oxidisation - Caig DeOxit ( not cheap but will last for ages )
Thanks for the tips But the cabs are carpet covered.
I reckon you're better off trying to clean up the existing carpet covering. Having said that I haven't seen them of course. Photos ? Covering with Bicarbonate of Soda ( get a good size box from a pharmacy rather than small amounts from a food shop ) leaving it for an hour then vacuuming is worth a go if the carpet is quite dirty. And maybe a 'carpet shampoo' also ? Mask off the speakers of course :-)
Hi, Ill take it if you think i could use it for patching. Cheers, Matt
hi. Sorry but that post is from a couple of years ago and I no longer have the cable available.
Instead of turning the BDDI blend all the way left, how about just turn it off? Doesn't it send the unaffected bypass tone through to the DI like that?
yeah - just turn the BDDI off and it becomes a 'clean' DI to give you a balanced output ( another topic in itself ! ) for the mixing desk / PA.
There's probably a way to do it with some sort of splitter pedal... Just need to fix and sell my old peavey and I reckons I'll be getting one of these then
it's just an unbuffered split of the signal ( please correct me if I'm wrong about that ) so you just need to sort out a 'Y' connection with a cable or a metal box and a few jack sockets. a bit of hassle sure , but worth it if it's the pedal you want to use ?
With Shuker's reputation, and a really nice looking BB 1500 on sale here for £450 (nothing to do with me BTW), how about selling the fretless and buying the fretted - you may even make a few quid!
+1 yeah - seems like a sound idea to me unless the particular guitar is special to you. I've never really got the defret / refret thing. I just think "buy what you want" - fretted or no fretless. Good luck anyway. And £250 does seem a bit OTT. I suggest getting a quote from the Bass Gallery in Camden even if just to compare.
bump for a nice cheap - but extremely good quality - fretless. I has one of these. Really cant remember why I sold it!! & I bought it in Brighton too.. Now, there's a thing..
Thanks. As it happens I bought this in Cardiff early 90s when I was in a band based there. I've never really used it much as fretless isn't really my thing - so the fingerboard doesn't have much wear. But coincidentally I have bought a fretted Thunder1 Bass in Brighton via Gumtree.

For sale in Brighton. Nice black Westone Thunder 1A Fretless. Japanese built at the well regarded Matsumoku factory. Serial Number 6040208. Nice condition. All original except for the control knobs which are now black aluminium and match the black body well. Unlined neck. Looking to get £150. I don't want to post this so would much prefer buyer to collect. Poss delivery in Brighton / Sussex / A23 area. Though I'd really prefer buyer to come and try it out to make sure happy with it. This may not be very practical for a live set up - but you can reduce string / finger noise by using 'de-essing' technique - same idea as used to attenuate excessive sibilance on vocals. Either using a dedicated unit or by inserting an equaliser into the sidechain of a compressor and boosting appropriate frequencies so that they are attenuated only when they exceed a threshold.
I've tried singing into 57s before and just blow a lot of air into them, although I suppose you can get around that by putting a windshield over them.
well I'm led to believe that the 57 and 58 are the same capsule with different cover / windshield. I'd say give the SM58 a go - although it'll have a less tight pickup patten. Note that producer John Leckie prefers standard 58 over Beta version - although that's for studio work.
I wouldn´t even hang a towel on anything MDF... but then again I work with the crap everyday and know that it holds no decent screw... good luck.
It might be that you're just using wrong type screw. I use 'Screwtite' trilobar type from Screwfix in UK. Also it's recomended to drill out 80 - 90 % of the screw diameter first and avoid area within approx 12mm of an edge and 25mm of a corner .
