I think for under a grand you'd probably get a nice-sounding bass, a combo and a noisy car to cart it round in...
Yeah you've got a point there - and I've had my share of £300 cars!

Judging by what used kit goes for these days, I reckon if you tried, you could pick up a nice-sounding bass, a noisy combo and a car to cart it round in for under a grand! So far my 'rig', such as it is, stands me in at under £250, and I'm as happy as that Larry fella.

Bump for a killer set-list!

Beautiful. Great color / pickguard combo, and that bridge is immense! I hope you really took it to bed with you. :-)
-
Don't see why not... Put it in and see what happens. Worst case is it'll introduce a noise and you'll have to take it out. If you're going to gig with it in, I'd tape it up as it could easily get trodden on and disconnected.
A slight hi-jack... What do people use to strip the outer sheath of instrument cable?
Mostly I just use a craft knife for stripping outer jackets, they're fine if you're careful. Maybe a tiny pair of side-cutters, it depends on the cable construction really. For general stripping (ooo-err missus!) I use my work Stripmasters.

I don't know Howard either, but wishing you all the best mate, get well soon.

What a voice - and great hair! That's a super vid and a great song, despite the questionable-today lyrics. I'm off to see the Herb-ster again on Sunday in Brighton, so will wave to him for y'alls

Anyone inverness way want a bargain?

What can I say but... yum -
If you can figure out that there is some benefit to making your own, then fill your boots. I can't see one myself, and the chances of it improving your sound are 2/10ths of nowt to be honest. As long as your existing cables are half-reasonable and working, that is. Also I can't find anything better for holding bits of electrickery together than good old soldering.

Today I played Herbie Flower's 1959 Jazz Bass
Ha ha ha, this site just amazes me sometimes. How can a great thread turn into the usual mindless BC slanging match?? Get a grip.
And then there was the bit where y'all argued the toss over the definition of the word prototype. I joined this forum to learn stuff, mostly what I've learnt is...I don't actually want to be here. And this thread isn't even in Off Topic! -
Well at the Brighton Rockshop (which Herbie Flowers kinda leads) he said to me on tuesday, I'll bring in my '59 jazz and you can have a go, which was really cool for him to say, cos I'm only like 16 and all. It was really easy to play for a bass with such a high action, Because of the height (and tapewound strings) it had a rather fretless-like sound. I've never played an instrument so old and I'd like to thank Herbie for letting me have a go,
Err, I think this started as a happy thread, sadly ruined by argumentative pendants. What a shame. Herbie would probably tell you to shut up and stop bickering. -
Bought the Polytune from Chris last week. Great service all round, very good packaging and friendly, prompt messaging. Thanks bud.
This is almost unfeasibly cool Have a great one
I can't add much to this. Proof, if any were needed, that it's not what you know... How excited are y'all right now? Awesome, you'll have a blast.

It is a lovely thing. Would I buy one? If I could afford it and it played nice, you bet yo'ass I would. Tbh I don't get this 'why do you like them' business, surely we all like different stuff don't we, and for our own reasons - jeez... I like grilled cheese over tinned peaches on toast, but you don't have to. -
J - 1.50" nut - blocks & binding - Lake Placid Blue - plain white pg P - 1.50" nut - dots - Black - plain white pg Interesting that you've decided matching headstocks because YOU like them, not all your customers will agree. I'm fiddy/fiddy - some look great, some really don't.
One of the first things I do in the morning & last things I do at night is read about music & come on here (still doing it too!). Every spare minute if I'm not on here, I'm playing my bass or playing about with something related to music.
Now doesn't that just sound like the rest of us? It's ok to do those things, but if you feel maybe that it's taking over your life or distracting you from something more important then stop, or at least back off a bit. Religion aside, you must follow your heart and do what makes you happy. And as posted above, it's not like you can't pick it up again. When (if?) you stop playing, try not to attach too much negativity to stopping, then at least you'll have the fond memories to look back on, and those memories may be the spark that makes you take it up again in the future. I wish you the best, whatever your choice.
Yeah, and you could pull them apart to ping the ring pull across the room with the flap bit. Kids these days eh? They haven't lived! The one thing that will have me out of a thread is when that finger-pointing, over-critical, insensitive, know-it-all prick comes in and starts telling people they're wrong for having such-and-such an opinion on whatever is being discussed. Every forum has such a prick, some have lots. Shortly after you can expect the thread to either get angry, or just descend into a general argument. Waste. Of. Time. Sorry gotta go, need to stock up on new hyphens. -
Awesome mate, just listened to all of it. Bass sits lovely and high in the mix, and just drives the songs along, sweet. Sick Of The Sun probably my favorite, 'I don't need no sym-pa-fee...' love it.

I have used GAK since they were just the Guitar and Amp centre, no probs, and they're a proper shop not just a big warehouse somewhere. Never bought online though, only in-store.
