1. It went "Not very Punk" when the nuances of stage tone and higher end bass amp and cab combinations met early in the thread.
2.
Although it does not specifically mention rape in the lyrics I was concerned that after googling it, there are a large number of people who rightly or wrongly make connections to rape and the slave trade, hence my question as to has it caused offence.
Ok so Rape isn't in the lyrics. Slave trade references / connections are - the Stones have worked with; and as I found quite recently, actively promoted black musicians, who to my knowledge haven't taken offence to their songs.
3.
Does anyone else play it and could it cause offence? After googling it, it would appear some do find it a bit offensive. For anyone that doesnt know its about the black slaves on board a ship being raped so not exactly a light hearted song
We don't play it - I love the song though.. Where does it mention rape?
4. There's a Welsh Pink Floyd tribute called - Caerffili with that axe Eugene
5.
All this puts me off doing more I'm afraid.
Which is understandable and a shame - but thanks for the Stump performance at Glastonbury 1987 - I really enjoyed that.
6. I would have thought that there are more Jazz clubs, than Pink Floyd tribute acts, but if people are enjoying both I see no issues.
7. Thanks - More of this please..
8. Armstrong Pickups - Here make for some well known bass manufacturers and will make what you want.
9. As some of our band mates think that they are on tour with Genesis, we only play parties / functions where the client has seen us and that are booked well in advance, so we have a contract / booking form - this is essentially a checklist to say we will need a few things like floorspace, a set up time and sound check and a running order of the evening, which also allows the client to ask a few questions. to date its also avoided double bookings. Years ago in a different band we were once double booked at a pub, we split the set up so the other band played, we played and then we did a big jam at the end - making the best of bad job, good fun too.
10. 5 strings - worth it? For me, yes. But I really play one because I once read that Noel Gallagher doesn't like them.
11. Qu - Do you need to sell? I ask this as having gear is one thing, needing to sell is another and it seems like they all do something different for you.
12. Fretted or Fretless - dunno, but I witnessed one being played recently; it was fretted and it sounded fantastic - in fact it caught me completely by surprise, the owner said he preferred the fretted version for reasons of intonation.
13.
Ultimately, it's all about your ears.
This plus communicating musical ideas to others.
14.
If you decide to split - I would be interested in the minnie!
Noted - thanks
15.
Aaargh - Dancing Queen! If you play it in the right key it's OK, but G (where we have to play it) is clumsy with 4-string. And a nightmare with BVs.
I think that the original DQ line is a work of genius. http://youtu.be/apN_cX4plvg
16. Try these.
17. What is the string spacing at the bridge?
18. I'm tempted to go back to using such an amp myself, this is a bargain. GLWTS
19. No, occasionally flatwounds lead me on in a coquettish manner, but the nuances of tone are lost when the drummer and guitarist start - recording may be a different issue, but I'm not worried about this at the moment. I'm not a fan of how they feel.
20. There is a thread Here I've done this, requested references and had a first class deal - good luck
