Good to hear...I'm seeing them in Cardiff in October....got the tickets yesterday. I hadn't heard about Maximo park being support....I think Cardiff's is Fiction Plane that crappy band that Sting's son is in
Fiction plane were ok - the singer sounded like Sting - now I know why!
Saw them 28 years back. Still the best stuff Sting ever did, as with Paul Weller with the Jam - two of the all-time great 3-piece bands.
Agreed - and I am off to see Rush in a few weeks, probably the other "best" three piece band in the world with the Police and the Jam IMO. I wonder if Weller would ever reform the Jam..........

Well after a twenty five year wait I finally got to see the Police perform live. The gig at the NIA in Birmingham was amazing - the sound was really good and very clear without being overpowering (shame about the bass end, all those standing waves) and the stage/light show was fantastic. The stage set up was really minimal - only the three musicians on stage but the lighting and screens were absolutely brilliant with live camera feeds up on the screens with live editing and effects - wow. And the band - well I was impressed, the playing was immaculate - Copeland was just the biz, Andy Summers played some really tasty solos and Sting is the man, great vocals and solid bass playing (even if it was a battered old fender and you could not really hear it more feel it) and he looked like he did 20 years ago! They are on again tonight and I believe at Wembley. If you can - GO! 10/10 - and I am a huge critic of Arena Shows!
I wasn't massively impressed with the larger M500 amplifier and cabinets (one angled, one square) I tried - Well I could get the top end sounding really sweet but the bass end sounded a little boxy. I tried using the very comprehensive EQ but couldnt get away from it very easily... I will have to try a suitcase though because on paper they would be ideal for me. Ta ped
Ped - they are probably not for everyone, what is? The larger cabs need alot of power to really drive them, so I hear. That might explain your experience. These amps are not for a rock band setting or reggea band for example, however for smaller settings they do the job. I have yet to try the suitacse with extension cab but I believe that has some serious output for those that require it. Ultimately they give a very impressive quality sound for such diminutive units IMO. Mark

PAT Testing and Public Liability Insurance
poptart replied to BassBunny's topic in General Discussion
It is worth joining the MU as you get your public liabilty as part of the deal, plus £1000 musical instrument insurance - I think it costs about £100. You are supposed to supply a PAT certificate, not just have your gear stickered up BTW. I get asked all the time and more often than not they never bother to check - they are just being a bit jobswothy IMO. A good and cheap option is to just buy new IEC leads (where apropriate) as you can buy them bulk fairly cheaply. Keep the receipt as I belive as long as it less than 12 months old it is expempt, I could be wrong but it makes sense! -
I hope it's not inappropriate too post here - but I have not been over impressed with bass combos for a while now and have preferred to use on stage monitors rather than lug around heavy amps/combos etc. I have to say that these combos are very cool - they are so clean sounding (you could easily use these as a keyboard amp and sound great with music playback) and have plenty of bottom end (considering their size) There are some new models coming out in the near future, so bearing in mind these are a new product there is still more to come. I have been just trying the tiny cub, which ay 11lbs is not much bigger than a shoe box - it also has that 'Tardis" effect and sounds really good too.

Without contravening forum rules - depending on your budget, may I suggest you check out the Roscoe LG series and the Skjold basses, these come in as low as 6.5lb and sound great. I am a great believer in using lightweight basses for comfort and practicailty reasons. My Roscoe SKB 5 string weight less than 8.4 lbs and is very comfortable on a long (2 hr + ) gig and sounds brilliant. Regards

Wow - that bass is coming on great, I agree on the logo position too - top class. I love that case - is it bullet proof too?

Well - I now have another great bass guitar company onboard - the fabulous Wood&Tronics from Italy. I have been really into what these guys are doing and the basses look amazing. Check out the site and have a look. I should be getting a couple of these in at the end of September. Regards Mark

That is looking great - nice top!

Here are some more progress pictures - I am reeally liking how this top is looking - I am now tempted to keep it with a clear gloss finish!?!

Bob - many thanks chiming in. I believe you are the first UK owner of a Skjold and you now have 2. I understand that one of them is an older version with EMG electronics in it. Pete Skjold really has a great feel for design and construction and this latest batch of basses has built upon his already good reputation and has raised the bar even further. I believe that once players get a chance to play one of these basses they will appreciate just how good they are. I look forward to trying your basses out. Regards Mark
Hi all, Just a quick post. I was down at the Gallery on Friday, i took my Marleaux down for some TLC. I spotted the Roscoe on their site before i went down there and thought i'd have a play on it... WOW!!! It's tone is just absolutely phenominal...so awesome! It's got so much balls to it, and such a classic fretless growl, i was really diggin' it. It had a blank fretboard, but, for once, i actually got on ok without lines, my intonation was ok on it...and it just sang beautifully!!! My only issue with it was the pick-up pan, at centre detent it was fine, but favour the bridge pick-up, even only a smidge and the volume boost and difference in tone was nuts!!! The tone was still kick ass, and i preferred it on the bridge pick-up, but what i'm saying is, you couldn't just smoothly turn it and hear a gradual change, it was like a kick in the nads, you noticed it!!! Whether there's a dodgy circuit, or something not right i don't know...but either way, i still thought it was a wicked bass. I played the Overwater and Ibanez fretless basses, as well as the fretless P Bass in there too...for me, the Roscoe was the winner hands down, the Overwater was nice, with a generally plain sound, but it would suite pop gigs nicely... but the Roscoe was the king of tone!!! I was almost tempted at asking them if theyed take my marleaux off me and let me walk away with the Roscoe...but the Marleaux is more me!!! So, in short...anyone after a fretless with £1450 to burn, you're money would be well spent here!!! Looking forward to trying the F Bass BNF6 that they're getting in... J
The Roscoe/Bart pre and p'up combination is killer in a fretless, however I am little concerned at your comments on the panning/volume issue as that is something I have never experienced with any of the Roscoes that I have played/owned. The pickups are specially wound for Roscoe, the bridge pups being quite honky/jaco sounding and the neck pup fatter/precision sounding. There should be little or no noticable change in volume only in tone, it may be the way it was set up? Regards Mark

Ooops Back on line again Regards Mark

Hi Kev Your bass is going to be wicked - I will try to get some progress picys on the site as soon as I can. I look forward to sseing some picys of the Sei too. Regards Mark
-
The site has been updated - this is still a temporary site, but it is getting there. I have been talking to a couple of new companies to stock their products. One is a European bass manufacturuer and the other one of the best Amp/Cab manufactureres in the USA . Watch this space!! Thanks to all of you who have taken time to have a look. Regards Mark

Some new progress picys for my Skjold.
Sounds great - good luck. I will have to see how my Nordstrand Fat Stacks turn out on my Shuker, but I think I'd be interested in getting more Nordys, possibly. Keep us posted!
The Fatstacks are great - I have some of the new Big Splits coming for one of my Roscoe basses for some single coil grind but with no hum. If anyone is interested in ordering any of the Nordy pickups let me know know as there is a 6 - 8 week delivery time on them at the moment. Mark
Just read that they on there way in...phew Anyway, this is great man, a great idea, great products, great great great great great!!! Although, i happen to think F Bass would be one of the finer luthiers from over yonder, but they're canadian, so i'll let you off!!! Do you plan to stock any backline? If so, may i be so bold as to suggest Thunderfunk amps, and Dr.Bass cabs...not simply because i use them, but because they're wicked pieces of kit...i'd quite happily pop over with my gear for you to test it out!
Thanks - I am concentrating on basses first, but am looking at picking out some really nice backline eventually - I am not a great fan of alot of backilne - I find it too heavy and not great sounding :-(. I would love to check out your gear though :-). M
Please don't tell me that the SKB3006 that you have in is fretless, like Gard's from Roscoe...if it is, you're a mean man!
He he - no, I am waiting on Stock, but I used a picys of Gards bass as a teaser. I have a fretted SKB3006 coming in with Buckeye top :-0. Mark
Cool, good luck Mark. Will you be stocking Nordstrands p'ups with wood covers or be able to special order them?
Thanks Dave - wood pick up covers are a custom order and around £100 per pair . Mark

Thanks for the comments guys - these are not cheap basses, they are all hand made and are very high quality, using premium woods and components. We will try to be as competative as possible on price. Mark
