1. Clearly you need a BC Rich Mockingbird.....two lots of P pickups and definitely a body shape to start a conversation about. May not fit into the Motown aesthetic though 😊
2. I like foam under the strings at the bridge. I just leave it there all the time on my P
3. I dropped a pick once
4. Ability, Skill and Understanding is a very broad spectrum of which only the degrees vary, but we are all on and spread out across that spectrum.
5. Looks like it will do the trick and always handy to have anyway.....enjoy new amp day!!
6. I love my MIM PB they really are good imho.....i would personally keep the JV as is. Too good to mess around with and too good to sell 😉
7.
Gallus arrived today. Bit larger than expected (feels a lot like the Overwater Tanglewood Aspiration Elite I used to own) but sits really well on the strap and lap. I think the J Type pips it on looks though. I'm also looking to buy the J Type but the seller doesn't seem to read their PMs. Assuming I'm successful I'll be able to try each for a while and then keep the one that works best for me.
When does the arran jumper arrive lol 😉 P.S. Salmon Pink 👍
8. Seafoam Green.....black headstock
9.
Actually - if you were going to pimp my bass, what would you do to make it less roll neck Arran jumper and folk song?
Salmon pink with matching headstock. Keep the black hardware.
10. Oh and the Gallus would look good if you wore a nice roll neck Arron jumper and sang folk songs.....
11.
I'd have that J Type in a heartbeat. I like having two pickups and the birdseye maple neck is cool. The first one doesn't do it for me aesthetically. Passive switching just means you can switch between active and passive - handy for tone variation, and a get out of jail card if your battery runs out.
Yep.....what he said ^^^ 😉
12.
I get the aesthetics position - but hardware-wise, which trumps the other?
I like that the J has the passive switching.
13. The J Type for me. I like the contrasting colours and always seem to prefer a maple fingerboard. I am really not a fan of the Gallus body shape and tbh if i turned up to rehearsals with it my brother (drummist) would rip the piss out of me forever more. 6
14.
I don't get the good ear bad ear stuff. If you played in a band for any length of time you've got a bad ear and a worse ear.
Agreed 👍
15.
Thanks No 6, hope you don't mind a question here. Assuming you use the same ear defenders for both sides, do you find it harder to hear the music properly with the right ear ? or do you use a different ear plug for the right ear to compensate ?
I try to stand with my right ear towards my bass amp and my good ear towards the monitors and guitar amp. Mainly as i know what i'm playing and what to expect sound wise and to keep up with any changes the guitar makes.
16. I must admit that i don't tend to look at the frequencies the earplugs filter as opposed to the db's. I use simple Proguard Lin-Ear 20s which seem to do the trick. I have hearing loss and tinnitus in my right ear which isn't loud music related.
17. Clearly any bass that doesn't have skulls on it was never made for metal..... Here is my modded Squier Jazz which fits the bill nicely 😉 6
18. Nice bass.....hope to see the report back.once it's set up 👍
19.
6 weeks and when they feel off. Who on earth would change 1 string?
6 weeks.....really! Wow! I know it's an individual thing but that is frequent.
20. Only if they break or if i cannot get the intonation on a string correct. I tend to use Roto 66 nickels on everything.
21. What year was this built and what is the overall condition please i.e. dings and knocks etc? Ta muchly
22. Seasick Steve is a luthier.....or at least i prefer his less than pretentious creations for his instruments which don't look like grandfather clocks on straps.
23. I emailed BC and so far they've ignored me.....i'll give it until the weekend then pass judgement.
24.
Be seeing you!
👌
25.
Glad to be of help. Did the tuners work out?
I picked up some Grovers off of here last night and needed some replacement screws. I also bought a new strap and a case for my Allen Woody Epi bass 😨 Support you local ish music shops. Lol 👍👍 Thanks for the heads up on this shop.
