  1. I've a set of Sadowsky Blue label that may be roundwound but they're incredibly smooth. Still in the packet I'm afraid but maybe someone can comment on their tone?
  2. Skank Hector told me they were skint, having got the Burns on tick.He was also afflicted by GAS,one time importing an EUB ? from the US. I thought it might have been an Ampeg Scroll bass but he says it was a Gretsch, must have been the Country Gentleman. The drummer worked for Hepworths Menswear in nearby Alloa so the stage clothes were "borrowed" then returned, hopefully after a wash Ashweb You're not alone. I want to be like Hector when I grow up too
  3. A certain Vigier in the FS section. Don't have the funds, don't have a valid reason for it but damn I'd like it.
  4. Jack He told me it was a Burns. The Tuxedo All stars were on the go late 50s to early 60s,bit before my time so I couldn't say what he was playing. He did say he was using nylon tapes on it. Msg'd me earlier about a case for it but then ordered a gigbag from Andertons. Hasn't told his wife of 60 years yet Could be a rammy in the Raploch tonight
  5. Trying to downsize some of the herd I got asked about the T-Bird. Was very happy to meet it's new owner. Hector Maclean from Stirling. [attachment=225880:Hector Maclean.jpg] Might be 79 but he's still a Rocker an has a wealth of stories.Told him if you drape the strap from the lower button across the front of the bass there's no neck dive. " Och son. There's nae neck dive ! Just adapt yersel tae the bass. " Put me in my place :-) Here's him in his early days [attachment=225878:Hector an the Tuxedos.jpg]
  6. Broke bottom E. Hit it right down by the saddle and it just snapped. Don't ask me why, it was back in the drinking years,
  7. Got one of the Peavey semi hollow basses, The Resolite. Only 4 were ever built. 2 stayed in America and 2 came to Europe. A friend in the States knows where those two are but we've drawn a blank on the other one. So just 3 accounted for.
  8. Got good pots from this eBayer. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-2-5-10-20-50-100-200-500-K-M-Ohm-Potentiometers-Lin-Log-Switched-Single-Dual-/110857852314?var=&hash=item5f7c1832d4 Well it's a start
  9. Getting " Tick " on PP That's a dangerous bit of info for me to hear
  10. All yours Beedster. Really don't need another Peavey this week
  11. I'll second those congratulations.
  12. Set of La Bella tapes arrived from Simon today ! Brilliant, cause he only sent them yesterday Gem of a guy to deal with. Thanks Simon.
  13. Yet another set of TI's from Dan. Pleasure to deal with as usual.
  14. Good bunch of folk at Revelation and quick to answer queries. Entwistle pickups too,not to be sniffed at
  15. Discreet started a good thread on the Harley Benton PB-50. There's a couple of sound clips a friend of mine did, A/B CV between Seymour Duncan single and the stock Wilkinson . It makes for surprising listening.
  16. Had the Retrovibe Super P for over a year now. Got the 2nd last white one and Dave K added the mini toggle for free.Damn fine bass. My hands are wee and the neck's on the chunky side but Man it fit perfect. The big MM burbles away nicely. It's a massive extra to a P bass that pickup.Makes such a change from the J single. Maybe one day I'll finally get around to fitting the Stinger to it
  17. @Raslee I think you're in for a treat this week. Have 4 and half of them myself ( Half is project unfinished ). 2 With the Ferrites and 2 with the soapbars. 1 of each pair strung with flats, the other with rounds. Truly great basses
  18. Knew I should have taken a before/after photo The Warman had some packing inside it's cover so it was snug before sealing. There was some between the coils and at both ends. It was a very light paper like shops wrapped jewellery with. The trimming was just the glue. The original single coil had excess plastic each end of the reel removed, none of the wires were disturbed. Tell you what the Warman is a great pickup, very happy with it. Still no progress on the centre dent volume drop Wiring is Neck red to centre lug on balance, bare to ground on tone pot Bridge is Red/White to centre lug on balance, black/bare to ground. That's the standard wiring as per Warman site. There's a green which is hot but I don't see where it'd go to stop the drop. If it was lousy solder joints output would be affected either way but now it only happens when both pickups are on full. I've also ordered a Linear b500k pot instead of a M/N 500k. Think it'll make much of a difference ?
  19. Nearly solved the problem A Warman Jazzbar pickup arrived yesterday. Popped it out the cover and trimmed it down to fit. [attachment=225014:Zephyr pickups (2).jpg] And here it's in it's new home. [attachment=225015:Zephyr pickups (1).jpg] Very snug fit Soldered it last night and am happy to say there's equal output between neck and bridge. The volume drop has now moved to centre dent A new balance pot arrived this morning so will be going in tomorrow.
  20. Brilliant to hear that Biglump.
  21. Spoke to a lad that builds pedals. He suggested swapping the blend pot,he could be on to something. 10 o'clock is bridge,12 o'clock massive jump as the neck comes in. That can't be right. It's got me baffled. There's no drop across the strings so the pole pieces are lining up,Peavey used the same pickup in both 4 and 5 strings models. The pickups were a set so by rights should both have the same magnets. The preamp is working. There's a Blade pickup on it's way so I'll be trying that. Probably no this weekend but the one after before it'll get done. Thanks for the input folks it's appreciated.
