1. I was playing loads of his tunes yesterday completely unaware the man was ill. Damn.
2. Frets just need properly knocked in with a rubber mallet. It's probably a deko, looks like the "D" stamp is just up from cavity cover.Bridge could do with a tiny adjustment I'd imagine, bottom string is running off higher up the neck. Up to £20 now but who the hang plays 8 string guitars.
3. The " Spider " brand is Flightcase Warehouse's. I've had 6 or 7 multi stands from them and if this is up to the same standard it'll do the job just fine. Certainly the Spider stands were far better than the similar ones branded Chord, they were a crap design and crap quality. Had great service from FW so it's a bump from me.
4. Think I'll get further than half hour in with this one.
5. Super Ferrite goodness there. And a bargain price.
6. No updates on the FB page for this nor on Monica Rodman's website or even listed on her IMDB entry. Lingering in production hell mosty likely.
7. Holy Smokes !!! That's brilliant. You've gotta do a NBD when it arrives and then after the Wizards go in too. Totally agree it's pretty smart alright
8.
I think the Jim Deacon (now just Deacon?) are the same manufacturer as the SX ones. I don't know if SX have been linked to J&D/Yeou Chern, they've got a company called Team International behind them who maybe contract out to a company like YC. I agree about the headstocks, that big hook on them isn't very appealing.
There's a good chance I've got SX and J&D and Deacon all mixed up.
9. Cameron sent me a set of DR Neons from his recent clear-out and being the sound fella that he is was very understanding when I had to tell him that due to being an arse I'd forgot to sort his postage. I'll be in the bank first thing Monday morning Bud.
10. The J&D surf green Jazz always grabs my attention and I believe DV247 offer easy returns if there's a QC issue so it's a no-brainer when the time comes. While I've bought a few HB dekos, the models I was interested in I paid normal price, the PB-50 is a ridiculously good bass for £70. Were J&D not marketed here as Jim Deacon over here ? Seem to remember the Deacons had a good rep.
11. The HB JB-75 do weigh quite a bit. So far the only reply about HB serial numbers has been one fella with the JB-75 NA same as the one linked above. Same s/n starting WSM. I wouldn't be surprised if they were assembled in the same factory.
12. I've started a poll over on the Harley Benton Forum on the S/N question, The people deserve to know. Give it a week or so for the guitar players to stop talking about Joyo Vs HB pedals and I'll stick up results
13. I just saw Dave Konig's selling a Retrovibe Evo with the Stinger preamp and a coil tap switch fitted for £249 + postage. Definitely in Stingray territory though.
14. Can't say I have noticed . None of the 12 Harley Bentons I bought had serial numbers anywhere.
15. There was a Riverhead Jupiter on Gumtree last summer. It was in Granton or West Pilton,Edinburgh. £250 I believe the asking price.
16. Spax screws are the mutt's nuts. On the rare occasion we get supplied them on site. I'm the one dancing a jig
17. Bass Collection are great, mine's 25 yr old and still going strong. If you fancy a killer Jazz ! jonobolton has a Peavey Foundation for sale.
18. Seems Parcel Force haven't settled in since the Holidays. Discreet sent a bass last week ,delivery due Hogmanay,I called them at 8am to confirm it was going out that day. When they said Yes I sat in and waited,at 2.30pm I check the tracking. It was listed as "Failed Delivery Attempt" No card was left and no animals went nuts at the door getting chapped. Called Parcel Force again who said they'd message the driver and get him to turn around and deliver it. By 16.30 it was back in the depot. Well angry by this time I vented my spleen on their FB page,10 min later it's getting dealt with for re-delivery on Tuesday. First thing Monday they contact me again saying they'd tried a date change but it had already went out," But they told me Monday was a Scottish holiday " I said." System fault ! " was the reply " if you don't get it Tuesday it'll definitely be there on Wednesday and enjoy your day off ". Bass was delivered that morning Guess it wasn't a holiday after all.
19. Don't really see how the BBOT bridge on the Squier VM J 70 will be any better than the BBOT on the Harley Benton but that's besides the point. I like Harley Benton but if you've £350 budget won't suggest a HB, those Sire V7's get a good rep. Used well the world's your oyster.
20. Pal of mine did it,was going for the scroll bass look. http://www.talkbass.com/threads/my-first-build-p-bass-to-scroll-bass-some-info-advice-please.1124005/
21. Late last month there was a Peavey Foundation up for grabs in Surrey.Mojo was interested but real life conspired against him . Discreet thought it was time to try a Jazz neck again,we know how that thought ends Me ? I get the offer you can't refuse. Something just sounds right when saying 4 Foundations, conjures up Earth,Wind,Fire,Water elemental type thing. And lets face it if you've played one you'll know they sound Grand. So this black and maple from 91 joined my other black and maple Foundation & 2 white ones !! But why the hell would you want 4 ? Easy 2 of them have Super Ferrite pickups and 2 with soapbars. Now I can string one of each with flats. I could have already done this as the active Dyna bass has Ferrites and can be played in passive mode but remember this offer couldn't be refused Thank You Mark. 2016 has got off to a great start and I'm now GAS free
22. Shockwave Only ever bought the one Deko Jazz so can't speak for others. I'd imagine there's a +/- tolerance the factory works to so your finding may be another reason for Deko status.
