1. AT My money would be going to Revelation and I wouldn't think twice. I was thinking in my earlier thread ( £50 is too much ) about the more common brands that sell 1000s every week. I really don't want to be naming brands , Today I saw a bog standard jazz bass for £220 RRP was £350,this was by a well known company who now get their basses made in China. My deko jazz was £33. Course I'm not thinking factory-agent-distributor-shop,they all need to make a profit too so I suppose £220 is about right. This is what I get for idle thought
2. Just saw Aquila do a 5 string set E - B. Maybe losing the E and tuning the B up to C would work for Ghost_Bass.
3. They are that Jack. I think I'd need to cut them shorter too but when I felt the tension change dramatically I called it quits. I had visions of the bridge coming off.
4. @Ghost_Bass I would dearly love to help you, having one of the Harley Benton bass ukes to hand I tried tuning up to ADGC. Started with the G and even after a huge amount of turning it wouldn't budge past A. Then my bottle crashed at the thought of trying the rest. Sorry
5. Holy Smokes Rob Size 2 !!! A bit difficult to store stuff in a matchbox sized shoebox. Where does she keep the poems you penned in your courting days ? Unless you wrote Haiku
6. AT I was giving some thought to the likes of Revelation,Chowny and Retrovibe. Can they really compared to the big players ? Like yourself I've browsed Ali Express enough to have an inkling of prices but have those 3 the buying power to get the low prices ? Revelation are of course a bigger outfit than the other 2,I think they're both one man bands ( Dave Konig certainly is at Retrovibe ),but still not that big. Prices on 1000s of units will be lower than on 100s and dozens. So I think their products and prices as a good deal, they have fewer resources to weather mishaps in production or delays and far lower sales figures. The brands selling 1000s of items every week ? I don't view them in the same light.
7. That's where the second thoughts come in JAC. If unit costs are fairly standard well some other brands ain't so good value. There's another 50s P bass out that sells for 15 times what my deko cost, made from the ultra rare timber known as pine. Not that I was thinking of getting one
8. AT I agree 100%. Even if ,as I suspect, the deko price is close to unit cost that wouldn't stop me buying another at full price. Knowing the mark up on my PB-50 I'm still happy but I'll definitely think twice when looking at other mass produced brands. Course it's not as clear cut,the big players have more workers wages to pay and share holders to consider. That's one thing Thomann don't need to worry abour
9. An idle thought here triggered by the " £50 is too much " Has buying dekos changed how you think about the value of affordable basses ? If the £35 for a deko JB-75 isn't far off what they cost Thomann, do you still think you're getting value for money from others ?.
10. Rob I have about 12 case and around the same in bags, not very appealing to the so they stay in the spare room. Basses are always on show using racks, walls and A-frame stands.
11. Sensible approach redstriper. You could be waiting ages for a deko and end up with one of the few duds. Least just buying you'll know straight off if it's for you and easy return if it's not
12. There's 3 of them here now. The first I've had for 18 month and has Status nylons, action's never moved from 1.75. It's got that thump I was after. Another was got to stick a Toaster in but I made a hash of that. Yesterday a Peavey SF went in it,when I balance the pickup later today it'll be good. Lasts a deko and I'm thinking Mudbucker or Fidelitron. Guess I hold these in quite high regard. Never played reggae so I can't say if it'll do or not, something for me to look into though.
13. What a result. Good to know some dreams come true. Congratulations.
14. Had mine for over 20 year and couldn't even tell you the model. Plenty dings and buckle rash down to the wood, plays great still. Bought it cause it was the nearest thing to the Tune Bass Maniac I could find and afford.
15. @sbrag I'd say it's a sensible price given the rarity of the T-20 over here.
16. Oh that is sweet. I've the black quilted one but the red looks far better.
17. Very nice T-20. And we don't see many in any condition in the UK. GLWTS If that's what they're worth I better increase my insurance
18. AT I'll keep looking for a photo. It was the exact same as my BXP Grind with the scooped lower horn, just with a plate screwed to the back. Same plate went on some Milestones.
19. The Vietnamese factory that built the Grinds years back are still producing them too, easy to spot they've no logo and the metal plate back of headstock. OT. I mind those type of plates in the 80s but I'm damned if I can remember the name, mostly for Fenders back then. Anybody mind them ?
20.
Oops! If I was to buy a grind, I'd have to research further to be aware of mis-labelled zephyrs.
Just to confused things there's also a bolt on PJ active Grind with dot markers in the normal place Available in American and BXP flavours.
21. That ones a Zephyr AT . Grind fret markers are along one side. Very cheap starting bid,I considered it myself.
22. That's a bit of a strange one. Definitely reminds me of a Zephyr, I'm sure @Mojo on here has a through neck one. The Schaller 3D bridge throws me as I don't think they were standard on Zephyrs but I'm inclined to a Zephyr. Just purely guess work on my part.
23. I've been really impressed with my Curbow,if it's an example of their work I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Cort.
24. Actually makes three of us Since the Peavey pickup hides the mess I made on my first attempt I can try again on last Thursday's one.
25. Asked the seller what work they did to make the deko jazz bass playable. " It's not a deko !! that's a mark left by a clamp during manufacture." Then they suggested I go do something else
