Khaos Theory are proud to announce....
kodiakblair replied to mikebass84's topic in General Discussion
The Bass playing world is a tight pocket. While back I was in contact with a guy in Africa about a cheap Thomann bass. Months passed then he got in touch again saying he'd got one but it was modded slightly.Curiosity up I asked what the mods were, then told him it was from Thunderbird on here. Aye it's well cool how folk can spread the word now. -

Good to hear some form of action on the voucher AT. Does sound like Maude's happy. Already planning another one Hey Maude you better be quick -
Something a wee bit out of character for me here. I saw this Gordy Blueshift II yesterday and the name rang a bell so checked here for some info but no replies as yet. From what I gathered it was made outside Manchester by the Gordon side of Gordon Smith possibly by an apprentice called Andy. Serial number is 00056 which I take means it's the 56th build but I'm guessing here. Reckon it's about 9lbs and it's passive. Shape reminds me a bit of a Westone Spectrum, Schaller bridge, machineheads and strap locks are fitted and I think the pickups are G/S own make, you adjust the heights from the back. So how does it play and sound ? Surprisingly well, action was low,no fret buzz or crackily pots. Fair bit of buckle rash on the back and dinks as should be expected for a bass that must be close on 30 years old. Gloss finish on the neck and a nice profile. I've only had about 45 minutes playing so far but I like how it sounds but I've not adjusted to the shape yet, that'll come though. I really didn't need another bass but you know what it's good to have something British for a change,I'd not seen one before and it's a decent no-frills bass. Asking price was £170 but they took £140.The fact that it's handmade is a bonus too. So aye it's been a good start to the day. If you squint you might make out " Made in Great Britain "

Another great sales pitch for a fender P!!

There's also the 007 Bar ,James Bond theme pub. It's across the road from the Guy who got raided for supposed supply of crystal meth chemicals Was seeing a lass lived opposite him. Interesting morning, CSI white suits everywhere, road shut and me rough and in need of carry out -
edit "It was bought yesterday" . I've seem a Blueshift II locally. Finish is well worn and it's clarty . They're asking £170 for it. Now the thing is I really don't need another bass but I'm drawn by the " Made In Great Britain " on the headstock, sadly such a rare occurrence these days. I'm not all that patriotic about GB it's just I reckon it would be nice to have a British bass again.Last one was a Wal back in 1990 and I can't see me buying another of those What's the general feeling Gents ? Is it a good idea ?

That's bang out of order the way they're handling their mistake. It's a no-brainer, you've got the paypal email they pay up no questions. You'll be contacting them higher up the ladder I trust. This kind of thing sours the purchase.I'd be pointing them towards this thread highlighting those of us having no problems as a reason for the purchase. Then this happens. Get on the case AT and give them hell. -
Thomann selling Harley Benton basses as 'Decoration only'

They both say 44 euros AT. I'm registered with Thomann so just paid through their site IIRC. Just checked the PayPal email for that sale,it only lists the 44 euro to Thomann. Nothing about what the money was for but VAT,postage and packaging are all zero. The next order to Thomann is the same just the amount paid and it tallies up exactly with the Thomann order email. -

AT I just checked my orders from Thomann by PayPal. No overcharging so I checked the Thomann order I used the voucher with. It shows item price then shipping then it shows the voucher refund and the voucher number. Check your order if it was entered it'll show there. -
Ah the Matt Freeman has finally been delivered then Jono. Congratulations on that one. Had a courier booked this week and got a text saying delivery between 12.36pm and 1.36pm. This one looks the same as my Grind apart from the Fathead, the bridge and no scooped out lower horn Oh and black hardware. It's made in Vietnam though so nearly there. http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Walnut-Guitar_50003239728.html -
Like Thunderbird said the PBXN are big. I had a wee bit of routing to do for them to fit the Zodiac DE body and some grinding of the scratchplate. Body was pickup-less so out came the tools.

Got those Spider stands at 12 today. Well chuffed so I've did a review in the Accessories and Misc.

Following on from the Aldi £6.99 Guitar thread. I used to get Stagg 7 guitar stands from Adrenaline Cases at £24 but after getting 4 from them they're recently stopped stocking them. Google search turned up loads of stands, many of them Chord stands or based on Chord designs. I bought a Chord stand once. It was crap, complained to supplier, got money back and as told to bin it. So I saw these Spider Stands from Flightcase Warehouse, same design as my Stagg stands. I like the method of assembly with the Stagg and these Spiders use the same. They also match the Staggs I have already. Just under £48 for a 5 and a 7 stand inc delivery, ordered yesterday morning and here for 12 today. So here's my thoughts on them, lucky I still had the Chord so there's some pictures to compare.Only photographed the 5 stand. Out the box here's the parts and here's the Chord parts Assembly is dead easy but I find it best if you expose the nut on the bottom rail, the foams about 6mm thick and it's easy to get it trapped in the nut. Next up is the shoulder joint,it covers the top of the legs and to my mind is a far better design than the Chord screw down method, I must add when I built the Chord the thin plate on top of the leg snapped off. Cheap tack welds were used on the most important joint in the stand, stupid idea and the one thing holding it all together. 1st the Spider joint then the Chord one. Now so of these have a locking pin to keep the legs rigid but the Spider doesn't. I found if you just use the supplied Allen Key it does the same job So there you have it 5 minute build and a sturdy stand. Very happy with the quality and the delivery time, price was a bonus too. If anybody fancys one here's the address http://www.flightcas...tar-stands-9458 Forgot to add finished product with optional extra Ginger Cat If anybody wants the Chord one for free PM me, you'll need to tack weld the plate on.
