If only it were true. The earlier B-Quad basses had Modulus necks, the G-bass connection is a combination of confusion and wishful thinking 😀 My pal Ronnie was still head mech engineer for Peavey in Meridian the time of the G & G-V basses, the necks were machined slightly undersize then shipped to gun stock outfit Bell & Carlson for a carbon wrap. Someplace I've a photo of my G-bass with tuning pegs removed that shows the wooden core, when I did the same with my B-Quad neck it showed Modulus were of hollow construction. There's a few other factors rule out Modulus necks, price/no mention despite being a registered trademark and a pretty strong selling point, but the most compelling was Geoff Gould flat out denying any involvement with Peavey other than the B-Quad necks.

An original 'see through' costs about $5k with re-issues between $2.5k to $3.5k. Nobody here thinks they're getting the real thing for £200. If Ampeg were bothered there's nothing stopping them sending a message to head office and asking Yamaha to put their legal dept on the case.

Nor me. They were listed as C-series NTB 4 & 5 strings in Peavey's release sheet for 1999. Doubt trademark or copyright had any bearing on things, marketing a product using the same name as others just makes you look daft. Something Peavey UK had form for, "Dynabass International" springs to mind ; only points it had in common with the US Dynabass was the name and 4 strings 🤣

It's a C-4, Zephyr was never the official name. 4 & 5 string bolt on/neck through versions appeared 1999, discontinued for the 2001 launch of the Grind. Original Grinds were bolt on neck active basses, your local shop needs a Peavey refresher course 😀 Wings look like they could be red meranti.

No, Falkirk in Scotland. Reply was to downunderwunder. I'm looking at a pristine sheet of 15mm ATM, thinking do I use it for deafening boards or do I use some old 18mm for that and have the 15mm for cab material 🙂

Over here sheathing ply is the rough stuff used mostly for shuttering, marine is the top grade; exterior is general purpose with one good face for painting.

I am one of the chippies 😄 It was the 15mm not 12mm I was wondering about, do I keep the same inner dimensions and hole positions or does being thicker affect those ?

I've never attempted to build a cab before, maybe this will keep me from looking at TC, TE and Warwick Gnome 2x8's 🙂 Have a load of 15mm exterior ply at work , could I use that ?

There were a few finishes. My 5 string before I went OTT with gold hardware and active EQ. My pal Gillian's 2. Have to say I prefer the 2 on the right here. German fella contacted me about Zephyrs a few years back, my lot were pretty well known in Peavey circles so I heard from plenty like-minded folk. I put Erek in tough with the Italian owner of that cracking flamed top C-5. Notice how the Grind far left differs, being lop-sided at the upper bout, off set dots too.

@tauzero It was mental, they put out over 40 models in 32 years. Managed to fit 50 of them into the living room for this photo.

Owned a complete collection of Peavey basses, every model released USA and overseas from 1978 to 2010. Your post gave my inner geek an excuse to run free 🤣

I'd place little faith in that TB thread 😁 2 confused TB members, 1 confused buyer and 1 very confused Peavey customer service rep 🤣 "The first Peavey grinds made outside of the US didn't have the BXP logo on them" How does the Peavey rep explain this ? I afraid there was no revamp 5 years ago since Peavey retired the Grind either just before or after the 2017 Cirrus re-issue. The catalogue snaps came from 2011 and 2015, here's a snap from 2008 and the body scoop had gone by then. That gives the scoop body a 4 year window and I've never heard anyone in any of the Peavey pages say they have a 34" scale length from that era. Common complaints are "it's heavy", "couldn't cope with 35"" and "thought the pickups were weak". Some of the Cirrus BXP dropped to 34" SL for a short while, could you be confusing the two ?

Yes and no. In the original format, active/bolt on neck, both the USA and BXP 4 strings were 34" scale length. When Grind got a revamp as a passive neck through in 2004 , scale length changed to 35". My Grind BXP NTB is from the initial Vietnam production run, had no idea it was 35" until a friend asked how I was finding the longer scale length 😄

Technically it's a C-4 NTB, Peavey couldn't really use 'Zephyr' as Epiphone had first dibs 😄 There's a few. C - series are 34" scale length, Grinds 35". Grind soapbars are 2 wires in series, C-4/5 were 4 wire in series and had a higher output. You find both bolt on and neck through C-series, Grinds were all neck through. Black hardware for Grinds, chrome for C-series.

Looked at a Sire P7 preamp on Reverb. Pots are similar to Alpha 9mm. I wouldn't be so sure 🙂 I remember a no-name Japanese P-bass spent ages on eBay, BIN £100. After a few months the seller changed tack and it was BIN £180, sold within a couple of days 😄

Sometimes less than that. Put mine on FB last Friday at £50, had just one interested party. Sadly I had to refund the boy's cash last night, spotted a split in the fretboard when doing the pre-shipping clean and set up. Don't know who took the news worse, him or me 🙁

Aye decent basses. Lighter than the US Furys and not a blatant Fender copy, unlike the US Furys 😄 Skinny jazz neck for those that like that sort of thing. 7.5 - 8 lbs with little chance of neck dive thanks the longer top horn, strap button lands at 11th fret.

Glue dots. £1.50 to £2 for 64 dots, available in ASDA, Morrisons etc.
