  1. Stealing from Mr Hill again. Not a fan of his band but the man had great taste when it came to basses and beards 😃 Think that plan is on the back burner 🤣
  2. @Bunion Aye, I get the same reaction from the apprentices too. They feel much better when I point out Gyproc still weighs the same 🙂
  3. @Muzz Aye, that's a good call and one folk complaining about Peavey T-40s forget 👍 I've near 40 year on the tools in the building game, struggling to think of anything that weighs just 12 lb. When I started cement bags were 110 lbs, today they are 55 lbs. Like I said, 12lbs doesn't phase me 🙂
  4. Popped over to see Gerry yesterday to buy his JB-75. Great guy , was a pleasure to meet up with a fellow BC'er and put a face to the name. Bass is in perfect condition , just like it said in his ad. Grand way to start a Saturday 👍

Bumper weekend of Harley Benton basses and bloody nice they are too 🙂 Friday night I spotted @jezzaboy had a cracking black/maple JB-75 in the sales ads. Wee trip to Paisley on Saturday and I was again the proud owner of the Thomann jazz bass 👍 Plenty has been said about these over the years , brilliant bit of kit . The 12lb weight doesn't bother me in the slightest. BTW Gerry, followed your directions and was home in no time; cheers pal 😎 Today also saw me travelling west for bass. Young lad in Lanark was selling a PB-50 on Gumtree, OK it's a leftie PB-50 but I've a plan 😀
  6. To be safe , best break out the router.
  7. What bass is it going in , cause none of this makes sense. Industry standard cavity depth is 19mm. Split-P covers are usually 14mm high but Duncan QPs are 17.5mm overall. Split-P foam comes in two thicknesses 13 mm & 18mm, springs are 22mm - 25mm. Grabbed 7 basses at random and measure from top of body to underside of strings, 14mm clearance. Cavity depth + clearance is the reason springs/foam are needed There should be plenty of room for the Entwistle PBXN. When I replaced the stock Duncan QPs in the Scorpio , it was a simple case of one out/one in.
  8. Very bad idea. Unless you are 100% sure the machine screws have been slipped through a sleeve then you run the risk of snapping the coil wire. Either trim the machine screws as they leave the magnet or follow my suggestion from the last time. Use springs not foam to help adjust the height. Daub white paint on the end of each pole piece. Drop the pickups in the cavity then remove. Take a drill with 5.5mm bit and bore shallow holes in the places marked by the white paint. You don't need to drill deep, that's if you need to drill in the first place. PBXN are 26mm tall. Pickup cavities are 19mm deep. Underside of strings to face of body normally between 12 to 15mm . Setting your pickups to 5mm below the strings is a rather large gap , Fender suggest 2.5mm to 3mm.
  9. @Paolo85 1- neck size. Chunky is a personal thing. My Fender 51 has a thicker neck than any of the HB's I've played. However the necks on my Wishbass Lobes are the most comfortable I've played and they sit mid point between my upright and the Fender. My opinion on chunky is no good to you 👍 2-bridge pickup. JB-75 and PJ-74 both use the same bridge pickup. It's paired with a bloody hot split-P, take care when going solo from one to the other. You'll also find a wee drop in output when both pickups are even volume, pay off here is they are acting as a wide humbucker. 3-weight. The PJ-74 is the PJ-HTR with a different paint job and some higher quality parts. My PJ-HTR tipped the scales just over 9lb, my JB-75 was easily 12lbs +. The difference is down to the smaller P-bass body and alder instead of ash. Alder averages around 28 lbs per cubic ft , ash between 38 & 42.
  10. Only holes I pre-drilled were for the neck screws. The rest went in using only a screwdriver, in hindsight I'd have then removed each screw and flowed thin SuperGlue in to the hole. I say in hindsight but nothing has slackened off since I put the P-bass together.
  11. Built this couple of years back. Sounds like a P-bass.
  12. Why would he need a good retirement plan ? After 40 years in business he'll have a nice wee nest egg put by . I don't hold with this idea that brands should continue years after the originators have gone. Finishing up on your own terms and with your reputation untarnished is the way to go 👍
  13. I'm sure you'll manage. Knocked the P-bass up from Paulownia a couple of years back, baw hair over 6lbs 👍
  14. Vigier was not a one man band, the workforce has the skills. Stuff those people 😅 One of the reasons I applaud the decision to close is we should be spared a "Why don't Vigier up their game while lowering prices." thread. They can scream and scream and scream until they're sick ; last guitar means just that 🙂
  15. Good on him, hope he has many happy years ahead 🙂 I also support his decision to shut up shop , a sure way to avoid any future budget range appearing from the Far East.
  16. Noll Electronics offer P-bass options. https://www.noll-electronic.de/bass-electronics/precision-bass/
  17. You're aware gig.ink are a printing service ,it'll be up to you to provide the correct graphic and colour.
  18. I was in touch with Phil couple of year back. Widest board they buy in is 150mm and they get some boards 50mm thick. Never got an idea of price as they were waiting to see what impact the "B" word would have.
  19. Jealous isn't a strong enough word to describe how I feel 🙂
  20. To get £100 out of me they'd need to do a damn sight more than "aim" 🙂
  21. Pinched from 60's Teisco Sharkfin, they even latter added the back bevel at the hook.
  22. No, they should apologise as they refund your £100. Here's the link to Brian in Glasgow, you've the choice of 5 or 6 Torts (4 being red tort). https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115165557727?hash=item1ad066f3df:g:DagAAOSwob5h0FKA
  23. All too easy done. Drawer at my feet is a doss house for 12 split-P, 10 sets of jazz singles, 8 P-bass singles and about 9 humbuckers 🤣
  24. 5mm diameter ? 4 will cost you £14.53 inc VAT, free delivery. https://simplybearings.co.uk/shop/p504951/F5-10G-Budget-Single-Thrust-Ball-Bearing-with-Grooved-Washers-5x10x4mm/product_info.html
