  1. For me ; it better not be the early stages of getting another in gold , only 1 hour passed since I pressed buy it now 🤣
  2. Wanderlust Green 👍
  3. In stock at GAK. @Stub Mandrel I am now down £335 , hope you're proud of yourself 😉
  4. Not the 5 string but the 4 string model. I'm going back 7 years so there may have been changes. Don't recall any major issues, bridge was easy to intonate the strings / tuners held / fairly light / no fret problems. Finish was nice 🙂 Scratchplate is horrible but the "tort" was just a film , underneath it is white. Stock strings were not that great , no biggie as you'll no doubt change them right away 👍 Pickups , though not spectacular, do the job. The jazz bass VVT set up gives the usual volume drop when both volumes are up full , not a fault with the bass ; it's just the way jazz basses work. I would let any of that concern you , not with Thomann's return policy 🙂
  5. You are a very bad man 😛
  6. That be the Sarzo s/n , 0407 dates to late 1989. C-4 and C-5 didn't go on sale until 1999.
  7. It's scratchplate mounted. Thread 2 screws through the face of the scratchplate, springs go on the screws which in turn thread through the pickup holes.
  8. Answered a "wanted" ad of Paul's regarding a Renegade bass. Sent a couple of photos , answered a couple of questions and the deal was done 🙂 Everything the folk above are saying is true , Paul is great guy and a pleasure to do business with 👍
  9. Thanks @Paul S , much appreciated 🙂
  10. Had a great start to 2022 and it's all thanks to Steve . He was having a clear out , one of the things to go was a PB-50 project. Knowing I have a thing for PB-50s he got in touch asking if I was interested 🙂 Too right I was interested 😃 Asking for only the postage cost the worthy gent boxed it up and sent it to Scotland 😎 I'll be naming this build "Jonesy" 👍
  11. All depend if you think a Chinese pickup ( Tonerider) will be better than a Korean pickup (Roswell). Tonerider are a relative newcomer , 18 years in business , Roswell close to 30 With regard to specs there's not a lot between them , IMO. Both use alnico 5 slugs and both have braided hook up wire. The wire count between the two differs ; Tonerider quote 7.4k for the neck and 8.2k for the bridge. Roswell say 7.55k for neck and 7.82k for bridge . Does it make a huge difference ? Tonerider only give the Henry reading for the neck , 3.2H . Roswell say nothing but the similar alnico 5 braided wire Donlis quote 3.0H for their 7.2k neck pickup and 3.2H for their 7.6k , expect the neck pickups to be about the same with the Tonerider bridge being slightly louder than the Roswell. Personally. I wouldn't bother. Pots/caps ... If they start to fail ,change them ; same as you would with any bass. I've 8 year old Bentons with the stock pots/cap/jack sockets 👍 I totally understand the " it only cost £138 there must be something dodgy" thinking but Harley Bentons are just decent basses sold at affordable prices , factory makes a modest profit/Thomann makes a modest profit ; big money for both is the massive volume of sales.
  12. With no re-stock until start of May , you are not helping matters 😄
  13. "Offensive Music/Bands" I'm all for it. Writing songs that fans love but offend other folk is great , creates a Them and Us division 🙂 Plenty of those songs won't be my thing ; I'm not offend it's just me being Them 👍
  14. Very true but given the population difference there's likely more dim Americans running around than dim Brits 🙂
  15. Aye. Started by the same fella behind the long running TalkBass thread , Sheffield laddie living in Spain. I was a moderator on the forum; thankless task most members are guitar players, lockdown was last straw. Endless stream of Americans bleating " I know my government has suspended air travel from Europe but where is my $100 guitar ?" James , Sheffield laddie , sensibly jumped ship a year before lockdown 🤣 Though the "hole under the scratchplate" post was mine but don't know if it still holds true . Hole appeared after Thomann changed the factory making PB-50's and not all were affected, some left hand versions were unscathed. The factory change heralded a change of scratchplate and I've heard this has changed again , not sure if this means another factory or parts dept supplier. A factory change might impact your neck swap @hooky_lowdown , say the PB-20 production moved to Indonesia but PB-50 remained in China ; then it's possible there's a slight difference. Won't be a big difference , just don't expect the neck swap will be a straight drop-in . Official £600 Fender replacement necks carry a "this may require work to fit " warning , also carry a "may require fret work" warning too. View the Harley Benton swap with the same proviso and you're good to go 👍
  16. It's a humbucker, 4 poles per coil. 4 adjustable poles on top, taking the slotted screws out underneath removes the 4 hidden poles from the equation.
  17. Maybe based the price on the "Vintage & Rare" site. https://www.vintageandrare.com/product/Fender-Telecaster-Bass-1974-Blonde-85688 Trouble is the V&R example is in Switzerland , most expensive country in the Big Mac Index 😀 https://www.statista.com/statistics/274326/big-mac-index-global-prices-for-a-big-mac/
  18. Wrap it. Get yourself on eBay and buy a roll of self-adhesive vinyl. £7 for 1M x 610mm , that's enough to cover your bass. Tools required. Sponge, spreader (credit card type thing will do), scissors/ craftknife & hairdryer.
  19. Great. Not content with thicknessing the body to lose the forearm cut then add a top ; now I've a reduced 51 tort plate to cut from scratch. Tough crowd 🤣
  20. Plan was no more buying of anything , double for anything bass related. Two things foiled the plan. 1. @Paul S posting his cracking Retrovibe 30" scale slab body P-bass 🙂 2. Wee Sis putting some cash in my card. While browsing for parts , Retrovibe is sold out leaving me no option bar build one, this turned up for £50. TBH the work involved turning this into a slab body is nuts , would be quicker and easier doing the body from scratch. Doing things from scratch is overrated 🤣
  21. There's always something unique about Wishbass. This snakewood Lobe was a stunner. . Steve was a fixture at the various 60's Folk/Bluegrass festivals , pipes and dulcimers were his main income 😀 Not too sure "Groovy Man" is apt, one of his books is titled " How Hippies Ruin't Hillbilly Music" 😁
  22. What a great way to start Christmas 🙂 Wouldn't worry about it being passive , my early JG model was passive ; sounded brilliant 👍
  23. Oh dear. I feel another build project coming on 🤣 Bet it plays and sounds as good as it looks , Mr K has an unerring habit of getting things right 😀 Congratulations @Paul S , you've made me very jealous 👍
  24. Not mine but a cracking bit of kit for no money. Good friend was coming up to visit and made a detour on the way. Well known eBay seller " green alsatian " had this lovely Peavey Cirrus BXP going for £199 😱 Gillian zipped across from Norfolk to Liverpool area to snatch the prize then on to Central Scotland. Back then I had 4 or 5 Cirrus basses and Gillian had 3 , could say we were familiar with them 🙂 Drawback with many Cirrus BXP models is the gloss finish ,it can feel sticky ; not the case with the satin "darkwood" version. Pair of us put it through the paces and were well impressed. Looked like a Cirrus. Felt like a Cirrus. Played like a Cirrus and sounded like a Cirrus. Bloody Hell , a £199 Cirrus 😀 It's the one on the far right 👍
